    “You’ve got you, now. You don’t need me. Not anymore” - such a beautiful message. At the heart of this film is a deeply insecure woman finally realising her self worth

      I agree. Fred may not have been the friend Liz wanted but he was definitely the friend she needed. This scene sure showed that underneath his crazy wild exterior, he had a lot of love for Liz and really cared about her being happy, like any friend would.

      Jonathan Spindler Between her Mother and Charles, Lizzy was never allowed to be herself. Fred was all the things she wanted to say and do but couldn’t. The entire film Lizzy is a victim. We’re made to think she’s a victim of this chaotic figure no one else can see, but in the end, he’s the only one that is standing up for her. His parting gift was the gift of self-confidence. A much deeper meaning that a film like this would normally have

    To all the neglected children out there that didnt know why they felt so lonely and unloved this Movie was for you. I was 7/8 when this movie came out. Only as an adult did I finally understand why this movie resonated with my experience so well. So glad this film was made and is part of cinema history.

      I couldn't have said this any better. This movie resonated with me as a kid, but even makes more sense now as an adult. We don't really know the trauma that we've gone through until we're older and can analyze it. Fred was an escape for Lizzie, just as the movie was an escape for us.

    This part always gets me. Fred at this point drops his childish and juvenile way of acting and just acts like a loving friend to Liz here and telling her she can be fine without him. It’s so emotional and actually makes the movie have a lot of heart.

    Made me cry, for me this scene officially was the end of her childhood, she realised that she wasn’t a child anymore and didn’t need her mother to keep treating her like one or dumbing her down, she realised she was an adult and could cope on her own. When she frees the ties on her younger self she was actually freeing her adult self, and wasn’t afraid anymore. The question remains of whether drop dead Fred was real or in her mind? I think he was always within her because he represented the child she still was, it only took a little bit of effort to bring him back , we can suppress our child side but even as adults it can pop up literally in a heartbeat. When he left for the last time he knew she was finally free and was at last an adult

    I've related to this movie since a child. The older I get the more its relatable. This ending is lovely and sad. I cry every time. But I mostly relate to the relationship she has with her mother and how she finally lets go of her. Thats so empowering especially growing up with the narcissistic mother myself.

    She Still needed him because the child inside her never grew up but after he helped Elizabeth face her fears and break the chains her mother had over her she was finally able to confront and comfort her inner child to be free. Since her inner child spirit was free it was finally time for Fred to move on because she no longer needed him and it was time to find and help another child just like her.

    • @jazzsolocup3291
      @jazzsolocup3291 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My theory. Fred wasn’t just a imaginary friend but Lizzie’s spirit guide. Only appearing when she truly needed him. Lizzie freed her inner child in the end and found true inner peace & happiness. Therefore Fred was no longer needed. His work with her was done. In a way, he helped guide her through her healing process. And now it’s her time to take on the world without him, with her new & improved mindset.

    • @sexydudeuk2172
      @sexydudeuk2172 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fred like other imaginary friends are kinda like guardian angels. They've been given the task of raising children who are miserable, insecure being abused etc and their goal is to make the child secure so that they will grow up to be independent adults who will allow themselves to be who they want to be and not let other adults treat them badly so that the children can be their own person and live independent lives and not be treated like children in adult life. Once they have made the child completely happy and are certain that the child will be the person they want to be, they have achieved their mission and hence are no longer needed and must move onto the next child.
      With Lizzy because Fred was taken away from her in childhood, it stunted that development and hence Fred's mission was incomplete hence why he had to stay with her a little longer until he could complete his mission
      In a scene that was cut from the movie, Fred even says to her "Elizabeth I cant stay with you forever. You're 27 years old it's embarrassing." Meaning that Fred and others really are only meant to help them when they are children.
