- Due to a recent landslide, a part of Highway 1 is destroyed and closed for use, causing us to head inland to Pinnacles National Park. While visiting the park, it just so happened to be St. Patrick’s Day, which worked oh so well with the greenery of the mountains and valleys.

Found this channel today and now I’m obsessed. I always wanted to try van life and it is interesting to see others do it realistically. I don’t really like when people show some crazy 50,000 plus dollar van. I like to see something I can see myself doing, and I can totally see myself in a van similar to this one. Sorry about the detour, but at least it caused you to stay in a fabulously green place for St. Patrick's Day!!!! That shot of those stairs made my stomach flip!!! What a beautiful area! @@ChadandClaire I spent 15 wonderful years teaching preschool in Lawrenceville, GA! Now I have my own three little preschool aged grandchildren that I help out with! They are my favorite students EVER!!! That's one of the things I have had to think about when we start to travel. We will not be able to leave for months at a time because I will miss them too much!!!
As always, another great video! I can’t get over how well you cook and edit videos in that tiny space! I just made a camping trip in my Transit Connect last weekend. I have tons of video but lack the dedication you have to actually edit it into something watchable. Kudos to you both!
The videos definitely help give all of our travels some more meaning which helps keep our motivation up. Plus Chad’s been editing videos for 10 years or so now so that definitely helps the process. You can definitely do it and we’d love to see it if you decide to post it!

Nice video! I love your "joie de vivre"! Green has always been my favorite color, too. When I was kid, my mother would take me to the barber shop and she'd give me a couple of pennies for the gumball machine. I was always very excited if a green gumball came rolling out. My very first car was a green '64 VW beetle. I wasn't searching for a green vehicle. I just lucked out. I really enjoyed seeing Pinnacles. It's the only National Park in California I haven't visited. I planned to go last year but COVID ended that. I'm now scheduled to go next month. Continued safe travels!

My husband and I are going to car camp this summer, and I want it to be cozy, ie baked goods... so saw a review by a woman who lived in a camper trailer and she loved her Omnia stovetop oven. So, I have ordered one. Cannot speak for it... but it might be worth a look? Now, my Dad took a cake pan and put it on some tile pieces in a cast iron skillet with a lid, and he used that to bake biscuits... same concept, just that the Omnia is a bit fancier setup. But you might have things to make a something like my Dad used now... pot in a pot with a lid, and something to put space between bottom of pot one and two, aluminum foil ring? Now, I almost feel bad for buying the Omnia 😂
Woah! That’s a fantastic idea! We were just recently told about the Omnia oven and are definitely thinking about getting one, but a DIY version might work as well! 🤔

Y’all prepare some awesome looking meals. Love stumbling across your channel. Find yourself one of the Coleman camp ovens. And how do you get by with the RTIC cooler?
We have learned how to pack the cooler tight and it has been working well for us so far! If we were doing this for years and years we would figure out a way to have a refrigerator. We definitely need to look into a camp oven as well!

While in California, how did you find free camping spots?
We used an app called IOverlander. Finding spots in California was much harder than in other states though!

Oh, and re heating the van... I am looking at flowerpots and tealights. I saw a neat setup where a guy made a hanging lamp... and I think something like that could easily be mounted inside a tiny van and heat the space up.... just putting that here cuz I saw the link to your night you stayed in a hotel because it was too cold. The biggest thing is to vent the van a tad, and make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector. But that is something I want to try for heat. Cheap and easy and small. I saw one couple used the pilot light on a Little Buddy heater in their Ford Connect and did fine, but .. tea lights seem cozier? Little Buddy gives off a lot of water vapor... ie propane and takes up floor space... I like the idea of a ceiling mounted heater, as long as the rods and chain used are long enough they do not conduct heat...ahhh, aluminum chain? Does that exist?? That could be rather safe! Hmm... Ok, babbling, but I am collecting my own ideas ;-) Safe and happy travels!

Which national forest did you guy camp? How do you search for parking/camping spots while traveling?
We camped at Laguna Mountain at “upper sweet water campground” we use IOverlander and as you start to go you become more comfortable finding places to park.
Encouraging to see can eat healthy on road. So many use all processed. Are spigots marked drinking water
Any water that we are unsure of we end up filtering before drinking!😁 Good food is a must on the road!
Squirrels? Maybe Prairie dogs.

@@TNhunterKMC Yes, it’s more compact when using it and I camp solo mostly. I got a silicone insert and added an grill thermometer.
