  • Rasa's Top Five Tips: 5 Salsa Shines - Rasa Pauzaite
    This video is based on a request from one of my followers. A number of my followers and students have requested that we look at some shines as they are uncomfortable with dancing outside of hold. This is my first introduction to shines, with 5 basic shines that you can bring into your dancing. Over time, we will add another five, and another five, so that you have a full collection of steps to add to your footwork.
    As mentioned, you can visit this link for more spinning technique: • Rasa Pauzaite: 5 Tips ...

    Thank you Rasa. When we learn shines in group class they are so long e.g. eight 8 counts. It’s unlikely that I would remember any of this or be able to incorporate even bits of them into social dancing as dissected they wouldn’t seem to flow or they take up too much space (require traveling). Also many of these shines we learn are performance oriented and look odd during a social dance. There is a definite need for simple repetitive short shines one could gracefully slip into a partner break. This is a much needed video series in the TH-cam salsa world. Thanks again for taking the time to post these. Sandy in Dallas

    I love these moves! I will practice them until I know them all. Thank you, Rasa. You asked me to tell you how my first class went after insomnia. I was dazzled by all the flashing and floating colored lights going everywhere. I got dizzy and couldn’t do spins. It was like I’d never had a lesson (I danced with Fred Astsire studios almost 2 years but 15 years ago). I was tired and kept hoping we were done. I loved the dance and all the people. I had a small concussion in a car accident a year ago and another in October so maybe that is why I felt dizzy. I think proper sleep and protein and fish oil for my brain will help. I am wearing ballet flats tomorrow night instead of wide sandals to spin better. Again I’m excited and not sleepy anticipating the class. I practice from your videos at home and watch them one after another in between. It's like a personal private lesson before a group class. I love being back in the dance world at 61. My very best time was 43 to 47. Wish I'd started in my 20s so I could've danced longer. I hope I have many years ahead to get good again. Thanks for asking!

      Thank you for your message :) keeping me updated 😉 different kind of light sometimes makes me dizzy too. Go yo the organizer and ask him if he can change the settings or raise them higher, sometimes when they low they go straight in the eyes! If it happened to you most likely few others will dealing with the same, its not just your concussion 😉

    9:40 Leaders & Followers! Such a good way of speaking, especially now a days~
    I remember my Dance School in the UK when I was studying (about 15 years ago) I was also teaching there Salsa (I was doing Ballroom) to a great couple, both men. One was always the Leader & one was always the Follower, it didn't take more than 1-2 Privates to learn to say Follower & Leader only~ Life practicing right there! XD I know where you're "coming" from amiga! ;) You'll get used to it~ ;P

    Great video. One question - for the 4 step shine, it looks like both leader and follower take 4 steps forward then 4 steps back. Is there enough room between them to do this? It doesn’t seem like shines are meant for one person to do on their own but maybe I’m misunderstanding what a shine is. Thanks again.

    • @DanceWithRasa
      @DanceWithRasa  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, enough room, cause you both won't do the same shine at the same time. When the guy lets go of you for shines, you both do different kinds . Does that make sense ?

      I will put it in one of my videos again at some point but for now think 2 beats in one step. As a lady you will start on your right foot and you hold the step 2 beats. So youll have right left right left forwad, then right left right left back. Hope that helps at least s bit 💕

    Hi Rasa, I love your videos but I get confused by the followers moves. I am trying to learn with my partner, I am the leader. I see that you do the followers timing but you don't do the direction. For instance, if you go forward as a leader then the follower generally goes back first. I have noticed that when you do the followers timings you go forward first too, which leaves us trying to interpret how it should go when we are partnered. I hope that makes sense.

    • @DanceWithRasa
      @DanceWithRasa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No darling I don't understand. Every time before ladies footwork I always do a basic which is back on the right and forward on the left and then demonstrate the footwork on ladies timing starting always on the right foot. Men always start with the left foot.
      In the partnerwork you would be facing each other not touching for this footwork. This footwork is called shines, you do not do it whiles touching.
      Is it a bit clearer ? If not try to explain to me again and try to explain better 🥰🥰🥰

    • @davidmiller9674
      @davidmiller9674 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DanceWithRasa Thanks for replying. I will try to explain better. In the 3rd shine you do 4 steps. As the leader your first steps would be forward but as the follower they would be backwards wouldn't they? When you demonstrate it you go forwards first as the follower. I'm sorry we are just beginners so maybe I am wrong. It is the same with your other videos too.

    • @DanceWithRasa
      @DanceWithRasa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidmiller9674 never apologise, we are here to learn 😇. This step is called 4 steps forward 4 steps back so as a flollower she would also go forward but starting with her right foot rather the left 😊. When you dance infront of each other if you do the same step at the same time, just take smaller steps 😇

    • @davidmiller9674

    • @DanceWithRasa
      @DanceWithRasa  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@davidmiller9674 correct, step like susi q you can do holding but other like this one you would not hold. When you dance salsa a lot of the times you let go of your partner not longer then 30 sec to do some shines. She does what she wants and you do what you want 😊.

      @@DanceWithRasa Sure but I would say it's more traditional to have man and woman. Same-sex couples is different. Two women is either done out of lack male dancers or because they simply want to. Two men is relatively rare but cringe worthy concept.
      I've never heard of situations where the man and woman change roles except as a joke or novelty act.

      @@batdude811 traditional is not necessary is always positive. Same sex dancing is very common so much so that one of the biggest salsa competition in miami has same sex dance as an option to compete and its beautiful.
