That thick fluffy pancake-like dessert is called terang bulan/martabak manis. It is very popular in Indonesia, and you can get it with many different fillings from chocolate, cheese, peanuts, sesame seeds, raisins etc. Oh and the savory martabak is also very good, you should give it a try.
Try to dip your fingers into sambal then you tore the chicken and the rice, that the use of sambal,to ease the heat of the chicken, its hot due to it is served rightly after the cook Or you pour some sambal on the rice, take the rice and the slashed chicken
Loving your videos (and missing Indo..) A couple of helpful hints: As mentioned elsewhere, C is pronounced Ch. Nasi = rice, c(h)ampur = mix. It's a standard meal for locals which can vary wildly depending on what's cooking. The little fried vege cakes are bergedel (or berkedel, or perkedel, depending on where you are). The yellow lumpy ones are corn (bergedel jagung) and the potato version you had a few days ago was berkedel kentang. I know these things because I'm shamefully fluent in Bahasa Makan and not much else.. Also, the crowd you followed for a mile was one of a multitude of ceremonies permanently occurring all over Bali. They take priority over everything else. It won't be your last slow ride.. Getting hungry..
Thank you for taking the time to share all that info! Special thanks for the correction on the 'C' pronunciation 😂 Berkedel kentang is quickly becoming one of our favorite dishes.
most of the food ingredients sold are fresh ingredients so they taste very good, welcome to Indonesia, enjoy the food on the streets and happy holidays, I hope you enjoy being in our country
Hi Tia and Chev. Found your TH-cam channel recently and really like the way you present your videos. As an older 50plus couple my wife and I are starting to embark on, and continue travel in Asia to see and investigate the different places we will base ourselves for 3 months at a time. We have 3 weeks in Bali in November to start our quest on choosing these places. Before the “situation” we have seen a little of Thailand and Vietnam. If at all possible could you please put up a quick map location on some of the places you visit. I try and find where your at using landmarks and places you mention but sometimes I don’t find them.
Hello, Peter 🙂 Good suggestion on including more maps. We are posting a video tonight and we will include a map to show where we’re headed. And we will try to remember to keep doing that. Bali should be fully awake by November, that sounds like a perfect time to visit! Cheers! Cheveyo & Tia
@@OnePackWanderers You could also add Plus Codes for locations. They show the right location immediately on Google Maps and some other services and are easy to type from screen, similar to shortened URLs but for locations.
So glad you liked the night market. Isn't it so refreshing just to be with locals doing their normal evening family thing. Those processions are frustrating when you're behind them, but the next one might be coming towards you so you can pull over and watch the whole thing pass by. Thanks for the great video. They have you wash your hands because you eat with your hands including the first dish Tia ate but they’ll often have silverware for foreigners. Remember the standard is to eat with your right hand because your left hand is used for certain bathroom tasks.
@@OnePackWanderers Yes but notice that most Asian countries and countries in the surrounding regions don't usually shake hands. It's more of a Western practice.
Just discovered your videos while currently traveling Bali as well… and I think we saw you guys at the fire dance last night! Thanks for some insight to the night markets, we will have to go check that out. Looking forward to more videos!

Love love love the synergy between you both - just so lovely 😊. Again thx so much for bringing us along. I thoroughly enjoyed it. All the sweets looked just so yum. Take good care of each other and enjoy your adventures.
You could eat with a family of 4 for less than US$ 10 and have a meal fit for a king on this market. Indonesian cuisine is so good and you two are now so experienced in recognizing the best options available. It shows. Going straight for the Nasi Campur, the Murtabak, the sugar cane juice and the corn. Couple that with the awesome fresh sambal and you are envied the world over by anyone that knows and loves this type of food. And there is so much more to explore. You are so cute in the way you connect with the locals. Maybe you can show us some more of that. Let us experience a bit how friendly these Balinese people are and how they respond to you. 😃😄😁🙃🙂
@@OnePackWanderers Use Tia: in this case the same scale. Interact with the children by showing them the pictures or videos you took from them. Before you know it you have a whole gathering. Agreed! Bali seems to be making a real effort to cut down on plastic. There's a noticeable difference in trash along the roads as well, since the last time we visited in 2017.
That thick pancake-like thing is called ‘martabak manis (manis means sweet)’ or in some areas, ‘terang bulan’. Also my favorite! You guys, if you haven’t, should try the savory/egg version one which is called ‘martabak telur’, another absolute heavenly dish that I think everybody will like!
