    It’s interesting the Jesse bias that occurs. I wonder if it’s because he’s more visibly affected by this stuff. Because I don’t see him killing Gale as the short end of the stick. It’s a situation that was created because he went after those drug dealers. That started a series of events that led directly to Gale. In order for Jesse to survive going after those dealers then he has to eventually kill Gale. Even if he didn’t know it. That’s not the short end of the stick.

    • @TheRepublican777
      @TheRepublican777 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was really to save Walt because Jesse was hiding out already even though they were after him Gus wasn't going to stick to the deal he made with Walt because he is boss not Walt and he wanted to take them both out and just go back to Gale like he had planned in the first place. Everything, all the choices they both make back fire the kid died because Walt didn't let Jesse take them out the way he wanted to in the first place, now the kid would have also stayed alive had he done nothing but they are ruining the kids life and in time being in the gang life he could still die, so Jesse trying to protect the kid and Walt intervention caused the kids death that lead to Jesse wanting revenge, that lead to Walt saving him and that leads us to them having to kill Gale and Jesse doesn't want to kill someone who has not harmed them or anyone that they know of someone just an unaware person cooking meth.

  • @JollyJoshums

    • @Athasin

      Yeah because up until this point Jessie is the one who hasn't gotten his hands bloody. Ever since the coin toss Walt has been doing all the killing to protect Jessie's conscious up until THIS point. That's what makes that last scene so pivotal.

    And it's super tragic for Gale too. The man had no idea that he's replacement for Walt who was about to get murdered. You don't need skilled cooks, just cooks. That's the biggest flaw of the show. No cartel would put that much effort in something that would only cost them money. Quality doesn't matter, as long as it's good enough.

    Because of your obsession with purple.
    Here’s a little something from google:
    Marie's purple is the common link between Hank and Skyler, who represent red and blue respectively. Walter White represents green, and he sits between the yellow meth business of Jesse and the blue pureness of Skyler. Hank is orange, which sits between yellow and red.

      Netflix actually saved them. At the time, there weren't a ton of must-see shows on Netflix. They didn't start making original shows until 2012 with Lilyhammer, and this episode aired back in 2010. Orange is the New Black & House of Cards didn't even exist yet. In fact, I think Netflix had only been using the streaming service for roughly 2 to 3 years at this point. They had gotten the license to put some of AMCs' shows on their service after Walking Dead finished its first season, which meant they got Breaking Bad. Netflix had that show on the front of their page for a LONG time, recommending it to everyone who used the service, and the viewership spiked. AMC definitely took notice of this, hince the reason we finally got Season 4. I think Breaking Bad also helped garner loads of new subscribers at the time, so in a way, Breaking Bad is as important to Netflix, as Netflix is as important to Breaking Bad. One might not exist without the other...

    Left out one of my favorite exchanges.
    Gus: Are you asking me if I ordered the murder of a child?
    Walt: I would never ask you that.
    Gus: *stunned silence*
    This little exchange says so much. Walter is telling this man to his face, “I don’t know if you did or not but we both know you’re capable of doing it and lying to my face about it,” and Gus has no rebuttal. Walter has him pegged exactly. It’s a small victory for Heisenberg in this scene.

    • @ZacThompson
      @ZacThompson 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I read that exchange a little differently: a) "I know it's possible that you did, and it's better for both of us if I don't know for sure, so I'll never try to find out", plus b) "I know you'd consider that an insult and I would never disrespect you like that, even if I think it's true". No matter what else, Walt has tremendous respect for Gus. It's like he considers him a role model or something :)

      I always thought Gus didn’t order Tomas’s death and would’ve punished the drug dealers, but Walt definitely called his bluff there.

  • @clarkmichaels822

    As good as Mike is, and this episode shows it, he gets absolutely played by Walt in the last scene. Walt knows exactly what to do, showing exactly what he knows Mike thinks of him: a snivvling little middle-aged guy who got in over his head, begging for his life, begging to speak to Gus while the entire time he just wanted to get on the phone with Jesse so he pretends to give up Jesse. And bam, message sent. Damage done. Full measure.
    Mike is dangerous, but Walt can play 4D-chess while he has a gun in his face.

      although we'll later see, that Walt can *only* play 4-D chess when he has a gun to his face, literally or figuratively. When under pressure and backed into a corner he's extremely dangerous and smart. However when not actively threatened he's extremely short sighted.

      Mike is a brilliant triggerman, but he's still just that, an operator. He never bothered to think of the bigger picture because he doesn't have to, he lets Gus do the complex, strategical thinking. That's why Gus can beat Walt, but when it's Walt and Mike, Walt can play him.

  • @clonexx
    @clonexx 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    There’s no other chemist to find. The premise is that Walt is one of maybe 2 or 3 chemists in the entire country that can do what he does. Gale only got to Walt’s level because he was taught by Walt. Then out of the very few chemists who could pull this off, you need one willing to “Break Bad”, which means you need one as desperate as Walt. Those parameters are impossible to fill. Walt is literally Gus’ only choice without Gale.
    From here on, keep this one thing in mind. Whatever happens from here on out, it’s because Jesse refused to back down with the drug dealers and Walt had to step in and save his life. This episode was a direct result of that and obviously it’s not over. The one thing that bothers me, is that Walt is hyper intelligent, so why didn’t he just go to Gus and explain that Gus’ employees murdered an 11 year old child because they were told not to use kids any longer. He should have talked to Jesse and they both should have gone to Gus. He’s a businessman and dead kids are bad for business. I guarantee Gus would have taken care of the dealers, they’re easily replaceable.

    Gus is very smart and strategic, but he’s furious that he can’t seem to predict or control Walt. Walt’s loyalty to Jesse is something Gus doesn’t understand. Jesse is reckless, so why would Walt want to put himself on the line to protect him? As Gus said during their first meeting - Walt is not a cautious man. The irony is that Gus wasn’t being cautious either by choosing to work with Walt. The cautious thing to do would’ve been to have Gale be the sole cook, but Gus couldn’t turn down the opportunity to push out the cartel by creating the best product. He hired a man who he thought had poor judgement. It was a success for a little while, but now things are spiraling and Gus needs to take back control.

    How did I forget that is how Gale died? I’ve watched the show through twice. I think I must have blanked it out.

    I hope y'all jump into Better Call Saul when the Bad is fully Broken. Bob Odenkirk did a damn good job on that show. It narrowly beats out BB for my favorite of the 2.

    6:15 The music is an instrumental song by Beastie Boys called “Shambala” off their Ill Communication album and features Tibetan throat singing.

    Believe it or not, season 4 is even better than season 3. And 5 is better than 4. That's not just my opinion that's the aggregate ratings from RottenTomatoes, IMDB and Metacritic, plus almost everybody who's seen it.

    There are more back stories on Mike in the spinoff better call Saul. Better call Saul starts before the breaking bad timeline and intersex said at one point and then goes past it so gives you great background on Saul and Mike and a few other people.

    Half and full measures are probably my favourite episodes of this whole show, some others before and down the line are really great, but that Mike speech in half, and his scene in full made me fall in love with the character and made him my favourite. I think this is his first scene with Mike in breaking bad. Correct me if I’m wrong. Full measures is my preferred favourite of the two, mostly cause the pacing just makes it impossible for me to look away.

    Depending on how you count, Walt has directly killed 3 people at this point. Two witth car/ handgun and one strangled in the basement with a bike lock. He also killed Jane by omission of action, so he is perfectly able to do the dirty work!

    It could be fun to run a book of bets on characters in a show for a dead pool. I'm sure there are laws against monetizing that sort of thing, but maybe for low stakes at home it could be a group activity that interacts with the story. Probably want to watch it as released to prevent spoilers or cheating.
    It might be a bit of a chore to keep updating for Game of Thrones sized casts as characters get introduced. Might want to make less frequent updates in those cases though.

    I believe I commented in an earlier season - seasons 3 and 4 are the BOMB! This is where things get interesting. It's going to be a rough ride. Enjoy!!!
