    India was once the most diverse habitat for big cats on the planet. Tigers, Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs , Snow Leopards, we had them all. British and Mughal hunting all bought them to the point of extinction.

      Funny .do you know how long is the lifespan of a wild cat like cheetah ? its only 10-12 years and here you are blaming the rulers of pre-independence, who ruled India 70 years ago . Main reason these wild life vanished very recently is us ,the humans . Our over population and our encroachment .

      It's extremely painful to realize that my fellow Indians don't understand humor. Worse even, they are always communally charged.
      My above comment was a light joke on the "patronising attitude" that was hallmark of British colonialism. I never said, let alone mean, that the Britishers caused extinction of Cheetah in any way. Our awareness of wildlife protection has grown only recently and it's foolish to blame rulers of past. The sight of entire comment section now simmering with a Mughal-Brutish blame game is so disappointing.
      And this blame holds no water as there are no Mughals or British today but forest rangers are still killed by poachers while protecting tigers and rhinos.

    There are 3 problems with Cheetahs:
    1. They require a huge area, only MP or Chattisgarh can provide such a vast area with grasslands like Savanna.
    2. Cheetahs go for the fast prey, success rate of a hunt is just 10-20% compared with lion at 70%. Often Cheetahs burnout and die due to over exhaustion. When you've low numbers this becomes a problem.
    3. Cheetahs are territorial and sibling mating does not take place, so you need atleast 7 or 8 separate familes for the progeny to increase.

    • @rickkarter8139
      @rickkarter8139 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      1. Ranthambhore park in Rajasthan is the largest and it consists of a very large portions of open grasslands and reintroduction of a species does not mean reintroducing it at different parts all at once. It mainly focuses on the area that suits the species the most.
      2. Cheetahs have a success rate of 50-60% in their hunts, the main problem they face is their prey are often taken away by other large predators.
      3. Reintroduction of a species focuses on introducing only the best genes which are selected and monitored with supervision until the species manages to sustain a healthy number in the wild..
      *cheetahs have a risk of overheating and dying during their sprints but it isn't a phenomenon that happens "often".
      Calm down a little Mr. National Geographic.

      @bonglordwhoknows7046 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You surely lack a great deal of knowledge about history.There have been enough proofs that many of the hunting done in British India was infact done by local hunters. British paid good money to take the carcass and frame picture with it as the hunter. It was quite popular a trend those days. Even many maharajas hired local hunters to get cats hunted, but popularised as due their credit. It was infact considered a trait of masculinity and glamour in those days to be known as someone who hunted big predatory cats. Jungle and wildlife were seen and portrayed as negative entities since it was an era of industrial revolution.
      Infact, There was a research paper in Calcutta University published few years ago on Physical Revolution which had the references to the whole mechanism of Hunting sport which used to operate. How it was a way of livelihood infact for many local hunters(some of whom were from tribal communities)

    India for their sq ft area are not responsible enough to protect it's wild life or forests... Its better they thrive in some other part of the world where conservationists have a voice and can have land reserved for the cause...Perhaps if India is keen about well-being of these animals they should contribute to these international projects while they write off their own forests to miners. I write this in pain fresh from the jharkand forest mining ... Feel like Indian ....No matter which administration always were in bed with miners
