Not exaggerating when I say that this channel has saved my grades so many times! these kinds of videos also saves my adhd ridden brain the excruciating pain of reading and re-reading the same pages for hours
The kidneys are like the pool maintenance guys at the Hilton: constantly checking pH, adding trace chemicals as needed, ready to open the floor drain if necessairy. Good work guys.
Me: "I need to study for this Health test" Me throughout the video: "OMG I FINALLY KNOW WHY BIRDS DONT PEE" (Future me during my test) "Whats the Excretory System again?"
Thanks for making these videos! I am a college student at Queens College taking Anatomy and Physiology. My professor seriously sucks. His lectures are 3 hours a week where he rants about being a failed doctor. He gives us powerpoints of notes that are on average 90 slides long and he tests us on information that isn't in our text books. I've been trying to teach myself all the body systems. Your videos are a little more basic/general than my class but they are helping me study. I apreciated the discussion of nephrons and background on Henle in this video. You do a great job of highlighting the important parts of the body, explaining their significance and making it memorable so I won't forget on the test. lol. Thanks! I'm sure I'll be watching more of your videos in the future.
Ok Hank, I seriously have to doubly thank you for producing this series and to all of your crew for making it. I'm studying to take a HESI-ADN test this Saturday, which is an 8.5 hour test that covers math, reading, and something like 6 different sciences, including basic biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, etc, and this is helping me gain a better understanding of some of these systems than I did from my actual biology classes. It's a phenomenal study tool, and I'll be recommending this to all of my student friends and my teachers to share. I can't say enough how great this series is.
94% across the board. Except for math, in which I got a 98. Study the flashcards for the vocab online, too. All these videos helped, especially the chemistry ones.
Rhonda Lee I got a 94.something, but I studied these videos. All of them, the whole playlist. Take care to note the chemical reactions going on. Also, anatomy directions, at least a little.
i see these comments about tests on all these video. Is this what is actually covered in highschool? I never took biology im just watching cause i find it interesting :)
i've taken biology twice (once in my old school, and currently in the one I'm attending at present) and this is for human biology rather than general biology, although I'm sure he also does videos for general biology. (biology is my favorite subject, in case you couldn't tell)
Your videos are awesome, love the humor, love the colorful graphics and the information is concise but covers the important points. I used your videos to study for my massage therapy exam instead of reading the books....Keep doing what you do!!!!!
this is my first time watching one of your videos and all i have to say is: you ROCK! you're amazing, keep on doing these videos cs people like me (the ones who learn more by watching than reading) need you!!
Also, I though it would be kind of inefficient if we did filter out every single drop of filtered water. Let's use an analogy to understand my statement: when you have a fresh new bar of soap, and you use it, there isn't as much soap as there was, but there is still soap. You keep using the soap until it's at that phase where it's small and it will start to break apart. so you get some more soap. So if you didn't get that analogy, basically what I'm saying is that we can reuse the water in our bodies because it's not so dirty that it will hurt you.
Study from the textbook... No quizzes/hw grade. Only one major test for this unit which involves random super-detailed info on all eleven main human systems......... You saved my life, Hank+CrashCourse!!
Am I the only one here who has just been watching and trying to understand these biology videos for fun? I love crash course that much. But this has definitely been one of their hardest series to sit through
i was watching this in class just now, and when he said the cradle of filth cover band joke i started laughing... but no one else did in my classroom... was pretty awkward.... sometimes it really sucks to be a metal head
Thank you so much. As someone with a biology professor whom I'm pressed still cared enough to come to class today, you are the reason I have a chance of passing this test.
We are not bad at naming, it's just that the vocabulary it is from greek and latin derived, or at least most of them. For example, I'm italian and I haven't studied nor greek nor latin but I got my phd and still if I look to the root of the words I can usually figure what the meaning is... I am sure that that in some decades everything in science will be named in a different way, probably english and surely in some centuries will sound strange as strange sounds the biological vocabulary for usa people now. Having clarified that,... watch this channel and Hank Green cause he's one of the best! Grazie mille.
I'm about to start college this year, with a major in biology. I took AP bio last year, and I took anatomy and physiology. A few days before my AP exam I was trying to study but couldn't focus on my text books and notes, so I decided to watch some of the crash course biology videos (sadly there weren't as many at the time). They were so much easier to study from than my notes, and I got a 5 on the exam! I'm now reviewing the videos so that my brain is ready for college. Thank you Hank!
i'll be honest. many episodes ago i was no longer able to keep up and am now just listening cause i like people talking to me plus its nice seeing the colorful pictures.
I have taken a great deal of biology courses, both in high school and university, and this is the best -and possibly only- description of the excretory system I have ever heard. Until now, all I've ever heard about it is that "kidneys filter your blood which leads to your bladder". Once again, free Crash Course >> ludicrously expensive university education. Nicely done, Professor Green!
I have my Biology mock exam in 11 hours and I'm just discovering these wonderful videos! The graphics are so simple yet informative and I'm loving the extra little impressive and interesting facts or bits of historical information that I can throw at my lab partner to make him feel inadequate ;) Awesome videos, I'm hoping these will save my ass for these mock exams, and get me the grade I need for Uni on the real ones. THANKYOU!
"Why are we so bad at naming things?!?!" And, Proximal Convoluted Tubule is one of the better ones. It's way better than: Substance P or Intrinsic Factor -- names that tell us nothing about their location, function, or chemistry. Great question. You could start a blog about it.
I like how you explain that medulla is marrow and that the proximal convoluted tubule is the tube near the beginning that is windy. That helps me actually remember all the complicated words. Thanks hank!
I am 17, actually kind of doing last minute revision, 9 days left for the last exam of high school, (Spm, Malaysia) which will determine where I can go further my study. I think i will put malay subtitles here after spm so my fellow Malaysian can watch this too. Great topic as always, thank you :)
When you have animation and you talk about a certain part of the whole system, try out highlighting the part you are talking about with a green light for example, to conentrate the viewer there. I got confused by looking at the whole lot of words and chemicals and moving dots in the kidney :)
Sweat is primarily to cool us down (thermoregulation), but because it contains small amounts of metabolic waste products (like urea, as well as water and mineral salts), sweating is considered excretion. That means that the skin is considered an excretory organ. Hope I've explained that well enough :/
I like the way you say 'Lupe of Henle', because you can actually tell it's 3 words. When I did this in school my teacher pronounced it like 'Lupofenaline' and for ages that's how I spelt it.
A simple term to remember is "fight or flight". Adrenaline rushes mostly happen when an activity involves using a lot of muscle systems used in fighting or running away. The body limits any system (eg digestive, excretive) that takes energy away from your muscles ie punching arms. It tries to expel waste so you don't have to waste energy. Think of it like "dumping" a heavy backpack to conserve energy in the same circumstances. Google "sympathetic nervous system", it's amazing! I hope this helped
Always a fan of crash course. I always watch the corresponding videos before starting my A&P chapters. It gives me a basic starting point so that while learning we already have an idea what they are talking about.

Not exaggerating when I say that this channel has saved my grades so many times! these kinds of videos also saves my adhd ridden brain the excruciating pain of reading and re-reading the same pages for hours
How to study for bio tests- watch these videos, read your notes, understand things for the first time in forever.
Facts

Great. Now I want mangoes.
mulimah29 LOL me too ~!
Salty Medulla is a good band name.
+Lord GabeN So is Loop of Henle.
The glory of Hank's job is that he doesn't have to wear pants to work...
"Which empties out wherever you point it!" LOOOOL.
😂😂😂
my kidneys heard this lecture and now they are offended
My gallblader is particularly upset.
You could even say that they are.... Salty.
yup very
I love this guy. he's awesome. he's funny and he loves what he talks about. I listen to him in the car. studying anatomy made fun!!

Kate Turner how did you do .. I take mines this Saturday and I agree this totally helps me understand better
94% across the board. Except for math, in which I got a 98. Study the flashcards for the vocab online, too. All these videos helped, especially the chemistry ones.
Kate Turner I took it nov 12 and made an 72 on a and p .. what did you get on that section and what did you study ??
Rhonda Lee I got a 94.something, but I studied these videos. All of them, the whole playlist. Take care to note the chemical reactions going on. Also, anatomy directions, at least a little.
my teacher showed this video to my science class. i completely started fangirling.
Exactly! That's really the reason why I was fangirling! And plus hank too!
lol !!!!!!!!! btw like your username
6,633 people passed their tests
114 failed their tests
Let's hope I'll like this tomorrow
That has increased to
7,019 passing
120 failing
as of today
.....
Pretty damn good statistic xDD
i see these comments about tests on all these video. Is this what is actually covered in highschool? I never took biology im just watching cause i find it interesting :)

10000 passed, and 203 failed now.
Thank you! Thank you for actually making these subjects sound as interesting and as fun as they really are!
Ur the best and got me a hundred on my science essay for the 5 systemsI'm about to donate for pure comedy
Was a fan during high school
Am still a fan now that I'm in college...
This still helps. A lot.
Keep making these awesome videos. I need them.
This channel is a gosh damn text book especially for Highschool level Humans and Social biology.
Your videos are awesome, love the humor, love the colorful graphics and the information is concise but covers the important points. I used your videos to study for my massage therapy exam instead of reading the books....Keep doing what you do!!!!!

I love watching this show at half speed because he sounds drunk and its entertaining XD
+Aliza canjura stupid question, but how do u put it in half speed? He speaks a little fast. It would help! thanks
+Shahjahan Ali Under the settings cog, you have different options and one of them is speed. Hope this helped!
+Aliza canjura thank you so much for the tip i died
Thank you for the education. Please never stop teaching so I may never stop learning.
11:04 "Empties out, wherever you point it."
HAHAH
"Don't do this, but if you were to unravel all of your nephrons..." Oh, phew. Thanks for the warning, I was just about to.
My teacher toldo me to watch this video, its incredible
this chanel is sooooooooooooooooooooo good ! fun and knowledgable at the same time!!! I love it
The white stuff on my car isn't technically bird poop. Mind = blown.
Am I the only one here who has just been watching and trying to understand these biology videos for fun? I love crash course that much. But this has definitely been one of their hardest series to sit through
This is going to help me pass my IGCSE's!
If I ever do anything of merit with my degree, I will mention you Hank.
This is so helpful. I will save up and donate money to you soon.
i was watching this in class just now, and when he said the cradle of filth cover band joke i started laughing... but no one else did in my classroom... was pretty awkward.... sometimes it really sucks to be a metal head
That's amazing. I would have laughed with you xD
I learned more in the twelve minutes I spent watching this video than I did in the two weeks spent sitting in class. Thank you so much!
Here because of school check
Thank you so much. As someone with a biology professor whom I'm pressed still cared enough to come to class today, you are the reason I have a chance of passing this test.
why didnt you include coiunter current mechanisum..any way
A LOT OF THAnKS

Studying like crazy
i see i am not alone. good luck everyone!
much terrified
This is the first I'm learning of any of the systems outside of psychology, so yeah, I'm screwed
Im in my last year of school and this channel is going to save my leaving cert! THANK YOU HANK!
HAHAHAHAHA slow the video down to 0.5 speed!! You won't be sorry :D
Try it in double time too.
GAHAHAHAHAHA.DIED.
How?
That was just too funny. At 0.5 speed It sounds like Bill Cosby is teaching me about the urinal system
lol
i'll be honest. many episodes ago i was no longer able to keep up and am now just listening cause i like people talking to me plus its nice seeing the colorful pictures.
'Also the name of my Cradle of Filth cover band.' lol'd really hard
Thank you for this video, it's really helpful and it's going to help me get a good grade on my ib biology test tomorrow.
Anyone has exams tmr ?😂😂🙋🏻🙋🏻
Maggie Li yep

Lol I do !xD

hank and his brother should do a competition to see who can remember the periodic table song from Asap Science and post a video of them singing it.:D
I watched this while finishing my lunch. Highly recommended.
must watch before exams :-)
I have my Biology mock exam in 11 hours and I'm just discovering these wonderful videos! The graphics are so simple yet informative and I'm loving the extra little impressive and interesting facts or bits of historical information that I can throw at my lab partner to make him feel inadequate ;)

Great question. You could start a blog about it.
Thank the universe for CrashCourse. All these convolutions have been cleared.
"which empties out wherever you point it" LMAO! I know what you mean. \-)
I am glad my biology teacher showed me Crash Course videos
He's faster than eminen
You're right gal
I like how you explain that medulla is marrow and that the proximal convoluted tubule is the tube near the beginning that is windy. That helps me actually remember all the complicated words. Thanks hank!
2 AM is a great time to be crash coursing on pee.
oh joy xD
How do you dislike something this awesome
Hank is such a bro
I am 17, actually kind of doing last minute revision, 9 days left for the last exam of high school, (Spm, Malaysia) which will determine where I can go further my study.
I think i will put malay subtitles here after spm so my fellow Malaysian can watch this too.
Great topic as always, thank you :)
I love ur videos. u have a good, interesting way of saying it without putting me to sleep! ^_^
When you have animation and you talk about a certain part of the whole system, try out highlighting the part you are talking about with a green light for example, to conentrate the viewer there. I got confused by looking at the whole lot of words and chemicals and moving dots in the kidney :)
This is the first video I've ever watched that you've talked so slow
I've got a homeostasis test tomorrow and this was perfect review. Thanks :D
water reabsorbtion, shmarter reashmortion. do you be what i do all day? lol all day long!!!
And this is the first time I've ever heard it called the EX-kruh-TORY system. Hank's accent is always an adventure for me.
Cradle of Filth cover band? LOL! Awesome how he actually knows about them.
This is by far the most comprehensive, accessible, fun and effective educational material I've ever seen. Keep up the good work!
wait so why is sweat connected to the excretory system?
Sweat is primarily to cool us down (thermoregulation), but because it contains small amounts of metabolic waste products (like urea, as well as water and mineral salts), sweating is considered excretion.
That means that the skin is considered an excretory organ.
Hope I've explained that well enough :/
THANKS A BUNCH none of the other vids and websites were helpful that much THANKS XD
Leo theLion12 You're very welcome :)
XD
The membrane homeostasis!
If I ever somehow become a teacher; these will be a valuable part of my teaching toolkit.
This helped soooooo much :D
That's john green's brother! Theese guys are both amazing and John Green changed lives with his literature! Good Job, guys, keep rocking!
This guy is a genius... I think he's secretly Spider-Man.
Haha I'm using this to study for tomorrow's ib Biology final !
Hi I'm in seventh grade dis is my homework =3
Happy there is peapol like you that share there knowledge whit others for free thanks
you are too amazing. this is so helpful ^^
I like the way you say 'Lupe of Henle', because you can actually tell it's 3 words. When I did this in school my teacher pronounced it like 'Lupofenaline' and for ages that's how I spelt it.
the irony im taking a dump while watching this xD

Watch 2:00-2:20 at 0.5 speed, im crying
nice
Hank. Mad respect for repin the 406. MSU student and Montana native here
did he just say cradle of filth cover band?
yeah I did a double take lmao
hahahah this is intriguing
+Vercingetorix I was reading this comment as he said it...couldn't be so in synch if I tried. and yes he does say it =)
kristijan ahcin hahaha
Cromm Cruach are you assuming gender of the person in the video?
I thought I speak fast, that was before I watched this guy.. Amazing videos though
AP Bio anyone?
Always a fan of crash course. I always watch the corresponding videos before starting my A&P chapters. It gives me a basic starting point so that while learning we already have an idea what they are talking about.
Unit exam tomorrow...lol
"biology and history videos" its nice to be there during all the development
Just leave him alone LADSS!!!!
its amazing when you realize how complicated the human body and how it works and for what purpose we were created
shut off the fucking sound when a note is popped
Agreed, just take a physiology or anatomy class this is like a nice refresher.
LOL SLOW THIS SHIT down to 0.5 speed !!! BWAHAHA XD !
+Abdul Wardak DUDE I literally just made a comment saying ho wfunny he sounds at .5 like hes drunk XD
From one (future) biology teacher to another, I'd like to commend you on your continual explanation of latin and latin-based terms. So many teachers just pass that over, but it's important to understand the language of science, and you do an excellent job. Thanks!
