Brilliant, I’m glad the video was helpful. It’s a fantastic bit of kit for keeping food fresh :-) I have just put a load of wild garlic in a bag to freeze, yum! 👍🏼
That fish looks delicious. This vac sealer looks pretty much identical to the SilverCrest one sold in Lidl stores. I had one until two days ago when it gave a loud bang and stopped working. However, I have used it almost every day, sometimes twice a day, for four years, so I'm not complaining, especially since I only paid £19.99. Now either I wait till Lidl restocks their product, or buy the Bonsen one now. (Lidl usually only has the SilverCrest in stores two or three times a year.)
It really was! Got to love fresh cod caught by hand! Ahh what a shame yours packed up, but it sounds like it had a very good innings! Can’t beat some of the Aldi/Lidl special buys! I hope you manage to get another soon so you can continue sealing fresh food :-) thanks for watching, Ben
@@suew4609 I did not buy the Bonsen machine. I bought a really cheap, very basic vacuum sealer to tide me over until Lidl reintroduced their SilverCrest sealer. I used the temporary, cheap sealer for several months, and then Lidl started selling their SilverCrest model again, and still at the same price, £19.99 which I thought was amazing. I've been using the SilverCrest for several months and it works superbly. The temporary sealer, which cost only around £13, has been put into long-term storage in case it's needed again.
Imagine me getting one of these for Christmas. Searching how to use it on youtube. Opening up the video in front of my family only to go. Wait a F minute I know that guy🤣
Hi, unfortunately you can’t use a sandwich bag as it needs to be a special vacuum bag so that it can remove the air, the dedicated bags have a texture to allow the air to be sucked out. However, it doesn’t have to be branded. I just purchased the 10meter roll from Amazon. If you just search Amazon for ‘vacuum bag roll’ you will have lots to choose from, I think the ones I got were about £11. I hope this helps :) thanks ben.
Just received mine and it has a piece of cardboard in it and says put back after using? What is it for please as you cannot close the machine with that in place.
Thanks for watching. I’m not 100% sure I’m afraid as mine didnt come with this. So if it helps in any way I don’t place anything in mine. I can only imagine it’s designed to keep the heating element exposed so you don’t close the lid when it’s still hot after use. Thanks Ben.
@@CoastlineFishing Thank you. Mine also did not have a replacement cutter. Working on that one. Edited to say that I am still reading the manual and cannot work out what they mean by putting kitchen towel round or in the bag. Any ideas?
@bernadettec6386 it sounds like you might have a slightly different model as mine doesn’t have the inbuilt cutter. Putting the kitchen towel in the bag wouldn’t make sense to me as it would just go soggy if you have any moisture in the food. Thanks Ben.
How long have you kept your fish frozen before using? I have seen where people use the moist button for their fish but also use the manual vac button to get even more air out and then seal. Wondering which is better
Hi, I have used fish that has been sealed 6-8 months ago. That’s as long as I have tested as normally I have been fishing during that time. The only thing is with this machine is the “moist” button automatically seals once it’s done the vacuum step. So you would have to vac first and then use the moist button to van+seal. My only thoughts on this is that it could take to much of the moisture out of the meat meaning it won’t be as flavourful when you come to use it.
Not a problem. It does a great job and definitely allows you to keep things much fresher. I would recommend getting the rolls of bags as this means you can make your own bags as big or small as you like. That’s helpful if you need package something bigger.
I know how you feel. We have had a poor winter season here for the cod so I have not used it much but hoping for a good few scallops once the summer diving starts 👍🏼 I bet you can’t wait to get the boat back in!
You are correct that the manual said to leave 3inch (8cm) but I have found it work just as well with a 4-5cm gap and it means the bags last a little longer 😀
I was seriously overthinking this. Thanks for the simple demonstration.
No Problem at all, I’m glad it’s helped you ☺️
Thanks! I just ordered one from Amazon and didn’t know how to use it

I go fishing a lot and I just bought one!
That’s awesome! Now you can stock up with lots of fresh fish 😉

Is your Bonsen still working? It’s on sale for $19.99 right now, but I’m not sure if I’m just throwing money away by buying this machine🤷🏻♀️

@swew4609 the Bonsen is still going strong and I use it multiple times a week 👍🏼

Thank you! Very helpful
You are very welcome. Glad you found it useful.
Thank you my first sealer great 👍 illustrations.
Thanks for watching. I hope you are enjoying keeping your food fresh with yours.
Great video just ordered mine of amazon
Thank you. I’m glad you liked the video. They are a really handy bit of kit to have in the kitchen.
Great video Ben. Liked the instruction book disposal😀
Thanks! I mean who ever needs an instruction book 😀

You can use any bag for sealing only, but you must use the proper vacuum bags for vac and seal. I routinely reseal bags of crisps, peanuts etc.
@SuperLittleTyke that’s an awesome tip! I’m going to try that next time we open a sharing bag of crisps!

@@CoastlineFishing - yes that was my thinking as well. Not sure at times who writes these manuals!!
@bernadettec6386 obviously just used a generic manual or a bad text translation 😳

I did get some regular bags and also a couple rolls for making your own size 👍🏻
@@CoastlineFishing I never used the Moist button on my SilverCrest. I always freeze the food first, then vac seal it.

Really want one but unfortunately I only fish off the shore on the Bristol and don't catch enough. Maybe once the boats put I will.

Mine doesn’t work out of the box. Thanks china
Oh no this is a shame. Mine had been faultless and it has had a lot of use!
Hopefully you can sort a return with the seller. 🤞🏼
You are supposed to keep your food 3 inches away from the melted plastic…
