I find the Combine to be a miracle of engineering. They are probably one of the most complex and impressive 'classic' machine in existence. To take a bean on the plant and harvest it into a marketable product at such speed and volume is truly impressive.
I've always been baffled at how much money it takes to grow just 40 acres (the land , equipment , interest for bank loan, labor etc.) of beans for such a small profit. 4000 acres makes a lot of money, but my god seems like a better return would be anything but farming . But, it doesn't take much education , and you get a lot of time off in winter. Cotton brought about 75 cents 40 years ago, now its just around a buck. Where is the profit?

Camped at the Niobrara State Park off the motorcycle. Swam in the warm river. Also enjoy U.S. Rte. 83. Hope the pinheads in D.C. insure there will be enough diesel for the fall harvest.
I’ve driven across Nebraska many times during harvest time and always wanted to stop and see how all this works; this was the next best thing. Fun and informative.
just walk out onto the field waving them down, then climb up the combine and ask the farmer how it all works, im sure they would love that, they get bored driving up and down the field all day stan, go ahead make a farmers day
Thanks for explaining how this combine operates. Back in the 70s, I was 12 to 14 the first time they sent me out with the grain cart, nobody told me the combine didn't stop! I have a 14 yz450f. Ttrs are great bikes.
I liked it even when I have no business doing harvesting but I like technology regardless of what it is. But I think what makes it more fun listening is cool happy communication with very good simple explanation. Good job.
You mention Yamaha and 3wheelers, I sub :) Two 1985 Tri-Z 250's and a 1983 YTM200 here and a few Blasters and a Banshee. Thanks for farming to feed the rest of us👍🙂
Guys, great to see you working together. BTW a cart is a transportation vehicle with a central axle or axles. A wagon is a transportation vehicle with wheels at the corners, usually with one set steerable. It is a grain cart as opposed to a hay wagon.
Your videos take me back to the endless amazing days on my grandparents farm. So much has changed but a lot has stayed the same. Really love what your doing.😊
You are making the right choice by live by the farm life. I use to live on a farm for 20 years but moved to the west coast. Ugh how I miss it. The city life will drive you mad. So many people, noise and congestion. It can take an hour and a half to travel 20 miles!!! I live in a nice neighborhood and just this morning someone fired 8 shots of a pistol at 5 am in front of my house as they drove by!! Stay sweet and innocent!
I loved that, in my day they were Red and called Massey Ferguson before Arco bought them. We owned a MF franchise in South Africa, mostly sugar Cane and Bananas in my region on the Indian Ocean coastline of Natal. You reminded me when I was a 15 year old boy, we would turn up to a local farmers demo day with several big toys, and show all the local farmers how fast two of us could plow the hell out of a field against the stop watch. We would pop wheelies in the tractor at the end of each furrow, ( just for drama ) do real hard turns by locking a left or right wheel and jump out and run next to the tractor if we had it all set up nice in a straight furrow on the next run. Needless to say we had great fun, just like you while the farmers stood watching, drinking beer having a bbq. Needless to say we broke a few things but also sold a lot of tractors. Back then there wasn’t one piece of computerised gear on anything. The worst you could do is flip a tractor which we never did. As for the bikes… that was just pure adrenaline but only after the work was done. Today I live in Australia completely removed from farming.
So, to add to the confusion about auger cart / grain wagon debacle, my Dad worked for a farm in Deleawre County Ohio for a couple years when I was a baby (so about 30 years ago) and they called theirs a "Bunny Wagon" because when it was empty, it would "hop" through the field and down the road.
The automation process sure beats the manual way my uncle and granddad used to farm. They were tobacco farmers. Their farm was located in South Central NC near the Sandhills of NC, I know things have changed tremendously since the 1960's and the 1970's. My mother was raised on that farm and she had 9 siblings. My aunt and uncle on my Dad's side were Cattle farmers and were milk producers. Also from NC. Lovely place. I have traveled to Chicago and Wisconsin but have not spent a lot of time in the Midwest.
Love your show. Grant with all the technology you have in that combine I can see you are staying as productive as can be so I'm going to give you a little advice when you make your split and can't get thru without dumping. Instead of cutting into your right so you can dump on the grain cart cut a path to your left for the grain Cart that way when you done unloading you can start harvesting right away instead of waiting on the graincart to get out of the way. Not saying what you do is wrong but will save you some time. Keep up the great work and God bless you and your farm 😊
