In my book, 'Monkey Man' is one of the Stones' top 10 greatest songs. And that's saying a lot because the Stones have more than 100 bona-fide classics.

Whammy Bard When this record was first released I didn’t get it (still don’t on Exile) there was a lot of hoop la and so on but this was the time of AM radio. As soon as I heard it on a decent stereo and then heard gimme shelter then I got it though ironically it was recorded and released in mono not stereo. But agree, midnight rambler, shelter, you can’t always get are some of the cornerstones of rock

Amazing job transposing an amazing song by an even more amazing player. So right that Keith never plays a tune exactly the same way twice, even during one take. I guess that's the ultimate secret sauce for how he got all those incredible variations for his parts on so many of those classic recordings.

    • @truckerkevthepaidtourist
      @truckerkevthepaidtourist 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

yeah that second fret capo is the magic on that one in fact most of the stuff on Let It bleed Keith did with a standard tuning and a the Let It bleed title track is the same way he capoed and standard tuned on midnight rambler too. gimme Shelter was interesting one with the slide guitar so there was an open E tuning I believe on.
although from sticky fingers on his when Keith would discover the Telecaster yank off that bottom low E string and play with 5 strings and use a lot of open G tuning on almost everything from on.

  • @Orvulum

Usually the chords are pretty easy, but almost without exception, guitar part tutorials for popular songs tend to get the rhythmic nuances and phrasing wrong. This one, on the other hand, is right on the money! Very nice. One of my favorite guitar parts! :-)

I recently joined a Stones cover band. Been playing Stones tunes in open G and standard tuning for a couple of decades, but there’s a big difference between playing them in a band that also does Mustang Sally and Brown Eyed girl versus a Stones focused band. I had to learn a bunch of new songs and nail the details on the ones I knew. This video and others that you do have really helped. Thanks for the outstanding tutorials.

Andy - Great song choice, lesson, and breakdown. Been following you since your first (earliest post) on the My Les Paul Forum. Sending another donation your way this afternoon as I know these vids and lessons don't just come together in a day...Thanks for the dedication! If I may be so bold, would love to see a lesson of Marc Ford's Cry, Moan & Wail (arranged for one guitar). Love that funky acoustic blues rhythm and I don't believe anyone has ever broken down this gem of a song. Thanks again Andy!

No wonder I couldn’t figure out how to play this song for so long. Richards kept tuning his guitar 🎸 down to open D. Same with Jack Flash.
Once I tuned down my guitar, it was easy to play and sounded exactly like the recording!
I was amazed! It’s like finding the final piece of a Jigsaw 🧩 puzzle that completes the Picture!
My problem was I knew nothing about changing the Tunings. Now I know about it and I have an App that makes it easy to do. Back then, I had nothing!
So I’m finally in tune! Thanks for the demonstration! Great Song!

When I was around 12, 1967, I was in Greenwich Village with my best friend. His mom worked in the Empire State Bldg. So we would left to our devices. Walking down Bleeker Street, I walked into a record store and purchased my first 45. A copy of Honky Tonk Womanl, by The Rolling Stones. Soon after, buying The Doors, Light My Fire. Then I was off to the races. in 1969 I was 14. My dad's best buddy was president of Philadelphia University. We rented a farm from his family. He gave us 2nd row seats to The Rolling Stones to my entire family, Mom, Dad, me and 2 little sisters. Talk about crazy... LOL. Anyway, Been playing guitar since I was 16. And these lessons here are the best on the internet! No shit!! Donate to Andy... he is working so hard to make all this seem easy. Some tunes I've played all my life and taking an updated lesson from this makes me realize that I learned this stuff by ear, and it was mostly wrong. It worked. but it was not correct. All these videos are correct, showing the best way to play the tunes for you young guns out there wanting to be our next Rock Stars... Just Donate some cash, Got It? Thanks Andy, another fantastic video, for the record.....

@@ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials Thank you Andy... Hey, off to see Justin Hayward and Christopher Cross on Sunday, 7-14 my 69th Birthday..! My friend from England, Mike Dawes is playing lead for Justin. And opening the show. I am sure you know who Mike is. Check him out. Look up Boogie Shred. He wrote it at 16 years old. I met him in NYC when he had his first gig in the States, at The Iridium in 2014. One of his friends sat at our table with me and my bass player. After the show he invited us to hang. I asked Mike to put his hands up against mine. Seriously, Andy, his reach was around 11 inches!! I would really like to see you play live, or catch up sometime. Do you work in studio atmosphere outside this gig? Seriously your videos are the top of the stack. Professional as it gets. Cheers to you.

Truly awesome work! You are only one of two people on the entire internet that I trust to figure songs out accurately. I really like the details and the nuance, because therein lies the difference between a really good guitar player and just an "okay" guitar player. I've seen a lot of your other stuff and it's all equally great. Please take a look at doing Heartbreaker Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo. You'd have to decipher Keith and Mick Taylor. No one else has got it figured out, at least not on the internet. Some have tried and crashed and burned.

You being the ultimate Keith and Stones guitar enthusiast, I was astonished to learn that you have not undertaken Jumpin' Jack Flash, which has to be the Ultimate Stones guitar tune. There is so much controversy and debate over the studio version on tunings and open strings played. I am dying to get your inimitable input on this song, including that studio intro with ultra low 2nd chord Keith plays. I cannot find that Stones song in your voluminous library!! 😧😂

You would be so great for this song, with all of your interesting research information and knowledge. There are so many theories as to which tuning Keith is using on which version!! I think Ya Yas version is regular tuning as is the Rock And Roll circus version. Cheers!!
