@@로보티니콜라스 some mezzos can do it! and some soprano can go so deep as a Mezzo like Normann, or Tebaldi. She is a Mezzo with a great vocal range(podles a contralto can hit high soprano notes too C4)
God, I love Ernman's Orlofsky. I'll never forget the first time I watched this and actually thought she was a man until she started singing. And I love the Russian accent she uses.
I was really having trouble with this song until I saw this video. It helped me realize how fun and insane Orlofsy can be,and, trying to emulate Ernman's Orlofsy (although I could never hop to be THAT good) I was able to get a nice singing scholarship with this as my audition piece ^_^ She is truly amazing and I'm glad I found this when I did.
I have 3 points to make: 1) this is the best version of this aria I have ever heard; 2) it is fascinating how such a beautiful woman can pass as a man so convincingly; 3) this year we got a proof that the Swedes take Eurovision seriously - they've sent the single greatest singer their country has at the moment! :)
She is absolutely fantastic....the phrasing, the slight coloraturas she brings with total mastery and totally in line (the colaraturas are not written) with the composer s intentions. Her embodiment of Prince Orlofsky...wow....what you can make of a small part when you are commited...Brava, brava....
This is helping me so much! I'm learning to sing this right now, and have been focusing waaaaay too much on the high notes, since it's a bit of a stretch.... she seems to make it more of a showing of how crazy and funny Orlofsky is, and more of a accent in the music. That helps a lot!
Enman is amazing. I looked up and posted some of her other performances and she is remarkably talented, with an enormous range and a highly developed sense of fun!
Turn on the tv, press play on the dvd, poor yourself a glass of champagne, or two if you like, sit back and enjoy a fantastic production. You can dance if you want...... It is from the waltz king after all.
Uprated, shared. This is quite darn good. One of my fave songs from this wonderful operetta. I wish I had the words in English or French but I can understand some of this. Greetings from Paris.
This is AWESOME,....and of the ginger guy, no, wait, singing mezzo soprano, gotta be a dame, she sure sings GREAT,.....don't understand german but, its kinda like a comedy, lol, when that guy carries that other guy off on his shoulder! Thumbs up beluczak and thankin' ya for the COOL Share!! =)
Joe Serrano This rôle is rarely played by a male, but rather a mezzo soprano female in drag. I did see a counter-tenor male do this well however. The females as the decadent, bored, indifferent prince lend a touch of fun to it. The words to "his" insult song are hilarious. The bored prince, a great entertainer, is delighted with the revenge of the bat! Fully entertained, and Eisenstein falls in love with his actual wife, in disguise!
wait a minute, the bored prince is a female in drag, Eisenstein is the friend or buddy of the ginger-haired prince, he falls in love with his actual wife, who's in disguise, the ginger-haired prince?!! LOL,...confusin' but hilarious!! XD
Joe Serrano Oh, you would love the story! Eisenstein is taken by his pal, Falk I think is the name, on whom he played a nasty prank in the past at a costume ball. Falk gets the wife and maid of Eisenstein to the prince's party and Falk amuses the prince by saying, watch the revenge of the bat! Eisenstein does have to go to jail for a week but his wife's infidelity comes up and her lover is mistaken for her husband and valiantly serves in the place, so as not to compromise her honor. The husband regularly steals her watch and tempts ladies with it -- she gets it back in disguise!
I couldn't understand why it was a man playing prince orlovsky. Until the man started siging, and made it clear he wasn't a man. Really convincing. And quite a humoresque and presonnal interpretation.
The first time I saw Die Fledermaus, I had no clue that this character was a trouser role. When speaking, the actress sounded like a man, so when she started singing, I freaked out! lol This is my favorite character now though.
I discovered her on TH-cam videos about 6 years ago....before she became "Greta Thunberg's mother". Loved her voice from the first and became a follower and was equally taken with her "schtick", though assumed the haute culture mavens would have found her "disrespectful> Why she isn't more a "known" ( in the US) entity alludes me. I assume there's some snobbery afoot. Malena is a delightful stage prescence...and in intereviews seems a most down-to-earth and wonderfully intelligent person. The combination is certainly that which should be healded not obscured...
Usually it's a woman who's not even trying to be convincing! Although there is one with Ivan Rebroff (countertenor) and then my favorite production, with Eberhard Waechter and Gundula Janowitz, actually has Wolfang Windgass (tenor) in that role.
This is weird! Ernman looks and acts a man so convincingly that it's a shock when she starts singing and it's in the mezzo range and not baritone--a first for any Fledermaus production that I've ever seen or heard.
@@로보티니콜라스 The sopranos do not sing mezzo works in such a timbre and as natural as she does. And in the soprano tessiture she sounds tense. It's one thing to sing one aria for a soprano, many mezzos did this, and another - a whole part. In general, I think that she has quite unique vocal data, and I would not like to argue about the type of her voice.
The one with Rebroff is rather ridiculous. Windgassen (not Windgass) is good, but it was written for a mezzo. I have seen many live productions, always with a mezzo, some better than others.
For me the most underrated artist of our times. In the sense that she's the best lyric mezzo of the last 20 years, but very few opera lovers know her.
She's able to sing Olympia's aria with several Eb6 she's sopran, a mezzo could never ever sing that. Although, I like her vibe, it's refreshing.

Der beste Orlofsky den ich hörte. Besser geht es nicht ! Spitzenvortrag.

Love the baroque ornamentation in the second verse!

das ist genial - wie sie den Charakter spielt, herrlich!!!
das ist meine Lieblingsversion!
Meine auch!
I quite agree--it's just that I've never seen or heard another mezzo who made such a convincing man as Malena Ernman.
I have absolutely never heard this ornamented. Wow.
Enman is amazing. I looked up and posted some of her other performances and she is remarkably talented, with an enormous range and a highly developed sense of fun!
So refreshing to see real charisma at the opera... Love Malena!
I've been listening to this rendition for years
Me too !
I’ve fallen in love with this Orlofsky)))
WHAT A marvelous PERFORMANCE ~ completely realized: Artistically & Vocally!
My favorite version of this aria!!!!
Wow , beautiful malena Ernman, disguised as a man, great scenic job !!!!, brava, great performing artist and a angel voice!!!BRAVA!!!
My favorite! She is a great actor!
Traumhaft schöner Mezzosopran von Malena Ernmann. Auch in anderen Opern-DVD zu bewundern.
This is AMAZING. (And the spoken bit cracks me up every time!) XD
Epoustouflante. Elle déclasse toutes les autres.

lol,....I sure bet i would, this teaser trailer you're tellin' is SUPER, and HILARIOUS, now if only i learn me some german!
This is incrediblee aaaaa ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I simply love it
Her name is Malena Ernman, a swedish operasinger, great voice, and very goodlooking.
Love it!!!
I also love the face expressions of the marquis. Poor man...
Eu amo a maneira como ela finaliza
Simply amazing - the gold standard against which all other Orlofskys must be measured!
I love her phrasing; she tosses off those g-flats so gracefully while remaining connected...wunderbar!
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!
Bravo!!! Her amazing daughter looks a lot like her.
GREAT!!!
FABULOSA!

WOW!
she almost speaks German perfectly
she is such a great singer and actor
best prince here on you tube
Just Brilliant!!! Before she began to sing i almost believed that she was a man!!! Marvellous!!!

anyone know her fach? or what kind of mezzo
? she sounds heavier than coloratura mezzo. Best Prince Orlofsky I've seen yet.
@bassfanne45 Yes, it's him.
Absolut. Ska vi starta en grupp i hop? Kolla in hennes andra youtube klipp där hon sjunger Nerone i Agrippia av Händel
And also the only one with baroque ornamentation!
it's usually sung by a mezzo! I don't know what productions you have seen!
Sie ist toll!!!! Wer sind die andere Sänger auf dieser DVD???? : )
amazing!
iTunes store doesn't have it :-( any idea where to find it?
Well, I believe a matter of taste :) I personally would say the same the other way round.
Best prince Orlofsky eveeeeer
OMG, can I be her? Seriously, so incredible.
She acts really like a man, and what a voice and technique. The best Orlofsky I have ever heard, though I am also a fan of Fassbander.
Ornamentation is brilliant, super voice but Fasbaendar is funnier
@ llum82 Hon är en svensk Mezzosopran Malena Ernman
She has a brilliant Russian accent!
Before she began to sing there was no way I didn't believe that was a dude. Damn.

no german classes in school? what do u find the hardest about german? :)
From which theatre/opera house is this production?
wow when she spoke she really passed as a man.
I love the pianist's face 2:13-16.
2:13
@captainbloodface
A flats.
I was unable to locate my favourable singer until the gentleman started singing. Well, she has other talent.
She looks very enjoy sinsing(;_;)
It‘s very difficult to sing while sitting like her 🤞
I believe it doesn't have music CD, but there are DVD's at amazon.

Female :) But usually the roles she sings are of male heros (though meant to be sung by women)
She is a contralto ??

Well,I saw Fassbeander yesterday and I have to say, that she's very good, but not so funny:) And she hasn't got any mustache:)
Her operatic voice has got not much power-but she is a talented actress
oh noes. german is easy. :)
yeah, she speaks better hoch-deutsch than this :)
Certainly not as convincing as Brigitte Fassbaender but commendable nevertheless
