When reassembling after replacing screen , i could get the black and white cables for the WiFi to click back in place , managed to use some tape to keep them in place but now WiFi doesn't work well and has super short range, any ideas?
«...once the battery connection is disconnected...» Can you still use the device plugged in to a Dock + usb-c charger without the battery "in use"? kinda like a regular desktop?
I gotta remove the cable from the lcd screen how do I remove it? Have a new cable on the way, never seen that connector and how to take out the cable from screen to motherboard, mine is damaged, just didn't wanna break it, how does it remove?
Notice how the SD Card reader sits right underneath the right side heatpipe? Also there is no heat insulation between the heatpipe and the SD Card reader either.
Wait, question because I do have a Rog Ally myself, but I dropped by accident and my left and right front bumper gets stuck when I press it so should I just change it or just fix it?
Any chance you could get close ups of the microcontrollers on the boards? It would be a huge help for those out there looking to reverse engineer various components of the device that will benefit tools like Handheld Companion, HandyGCCS, etc. I saw ITE and Winbond chips but I'm unable to read what is printed on them.
Thank you for this one! Is there a specific way to put back the lid back again? My back buttons stay flat, they aren’t clicking or have travel/depth anymore 😕, tried a few times and still loke that.
I had that happen on mine the first time. Make sure the screws holding in the back panel is fully tightened and if that doesn't work maybe try taking it of and seeing if something is catching where it won't seal properly. I noticed the same when my back panel was not fully attached back on.
Could you do a video about your thoughts about some of the recent hardware issues such as SD card reader allegedly getting hot and cooking microSD cards?
I have my ROG Ally, here short DETAILS: - The Z1 Extreme is equivalent to a Ryzen 7 1700 with 11,7gb ram + the gpu is exactly a GTX 1060 with 4GB vram. - 10 watt set, use under or exact 10w, except you play, then it reachs max 16w shortly. - No noise at silent mode, silent at performance mode, clearly hearable-loud at turbo at 30w use. - Can connect it to a monitor + mouse + keyboard + lan + power plug. While akku its 25w, with power plug via usb hub its 30w. Optimize: Set the pagefile to 16gb at least to outsource unused ram to ssd. While gaming, only turbo mode max 30watt/h. Cpu 1,6ghz, gpu 2ghz (arround 6tflops raw gpu performance) Conclusion: no AAA Gaming device. For me a good portable PC to take everywhere with me and can play small games/watch videos/listen music or program something.
Also, my left bumper, for some reason is clicking two times. When I press the left bumper down slightly, it clicks. If I press it down more, it will do the normal left bumper click like it's supposed to. Is there a way to tighten the bumper or is there any other solution for the issue?
Try reseating it and screwing in the back screws. My trigger buttons did not click until I screwed the last screws un or pushed the device back together.
@@brandon20904 Okay i will give it a try. To get to the screws for the bumpers, do I have to disassemble most of the Ally? I can do it, just not sure where the screws are. Thanks for the help!
If you unplug the battery/ remove the battery, can you play the rog ally while it is plugged into ac power? Or does the device require the battery to be present? Thanks in advance
Too bad the wifi module isn't replaceable. Mediatek wifi chips aren't really good at all. I'd far prefer Intel AX210 but that's impossible with the Ally. What a shame.
I'm watching these tear downs hoping to spot something that's causing the LB button to not work that I'm experiencing but also others have reported on reddit, its definitely a hardware issue but its bloody difficult to spot what's the cause
Just broke my screen today 10-21-2023. Looked up a new screen and it's the whole front to where he got down to last, comes with new wifi. Current price is 173$ usd
Now they need to make a repair kit for the sd card... mine went out shortly after I got it back from ASUS after a bios update bricked my mobo... I'll be damned it i send it back to them, that was an ordeal and I had to fight them to cover the repair. Asus reps tried to weasel their way out of covering it
@@Jeg_er_tyk_og_grim there’s a little adapter on Amazon for 8 bucks that goes into the ssd slot and you can put a full size m.2 which are $100 cheaper than the rog ally ssd that’s what I may do then get a power bank or do a battery mod

it doesn’t look very good, even the steam deck had an internal part made of magnesium alloy, to which everything else was attached, but here it’s only plastic
1 week ago for $470 I got a like new Z1 extreme with OEM case and dock charger......10000% worth it.....steamdeck oled se was way overpriced amd not as good imo

Hi, is there a video of the re assembling?😅
Play it in reverse 😅

I was wondering why the screen felt hollow when you tap on it. Its gonna be difficult to replace the screen if it does get damaged.
They sell front plate with screen included no worries

How’d you get the fuckin speakers out
Im gonna pickup my ally tomorrow! 2 fans for that apu you know ASUS is serious.
hi, maybe you know why the right cooler makes an odd sound when it is turned on. It is when the right cooler turns on that you can somehow fix it.
«...once the battery connection is disconnected...» Can you still use the device plugged in to a Dock + usb-c charger without the battery "in use"? kinda like a regular desktop?
The 3 upper screws won't unscrew any further! They just "snap back" and keep on turning 'indefinitely", kinda like center bottom screw. Any help?
My directional button doesn’t go right. Do I have to replace it? Every other direction works and I have no problems with the analogs.
Can you show how to disassemble the sticks? Like once they’re out, how to take off the metal bracket that holds the stick in place
Thanks for video...I took mine apart to install new SSD but it's missing the black insulation that covers SSD, should I be concerned?
I think it should be fine. If you're really concerned you can put a piece of anti static plastic between the SSD and board.
Open charging port please
Please make Asus Rog Ally X disassembly video too. Thanks.
How can I get a replacement cable from screen to motherboard...mine got damaged..cable says mb on it

What would happen if I added a thermal pad there? Would it even help?
@@Bright12ful Yes adding thermal pad will prevent overheat. Place it on the SD card reader
Looks to be very repair friendly
Indeed. Nothing is fixed

Are the triggers hall effect? If so, would replacing the joy sticks with hall effect cause interference issues?

Any fix for the fan whine noise????????? I was thinking to open it up and see whats up..

If the battery is unplugged it will not power back on even with the power cable attached. Just tried it twice.

Does the Rog Ally just have thermal paste on it or is it something else?
I only see thermal past on mine.
whenever the D-pads broken, u have to replace the whole mainboard
Hopefully valve looks ad the allys easy to remove battery, and put that in the upcoming steamdeck 2
Please tell me you are saying Allie instead of Ally as a meme. Its Ally like Allied forces. The device is your Ally for gaming.
thanks for this

Oh damn. . . I missed that. That sucks. I wished it was at least replaceable. I had a hand full of wifi cards failing on me before.
Is it battery replaceable?
Yes, once we have the parts the battery is easily replaceable.
No wonder it is frying sd cards, it is located exactly beneath the heat pipe.
Is the ram upgradeable*
The ram is soldered to the board and not upgradeable.
