During the Second World War, Santorini was occupied in 1941 by Italian forces and they deported most of the Greek population and changed the name back from Thera to Santorini. ITALIANS DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS. Over 7,000 Italians settled the island - sent by Mussolini to colonize and afterwards they comprised of almost 80% of the population.
