Bring back weekly research legendary pokemon. We get a free raid pass every day so it’s not like Niantic would lose money from this, but that was the single biggest motivator for me back in the day to complete a research task every day.
Don’t even have to be guaranteed, at least have them in the rotation as a possibility. Even if I only actually got one once a month it would be a motivation.
The sheer amount of dissapointment I felt when I came back and got some random common spawn was huge.
I stopped playing when it dropped legendairys and I always did it daily but now it just feels useless. The whole 7 day box is actually just useless now. It would be more worth it if they gave us a extra field research in the place of that. or like a questline every week or every other week that if you complete it you get a legendairy.
im still a sucker for sinnoh stones to complete evos for the dex but other then that it feels pretty lackluster indeed

My only gripe with the makeup Rayquaza was that the energy rewards were effectively halved as compared to the elite ones. I was fortunate to do the elite ones but my friends weren’t willing to do 10ish to secure enough energies in lieu of missing the elite day

Talking about living in the shadow of your past grinds really hit at home. I can relate to your edititor, during rocket takeovers Id be grinding 10+ hours on grunts and leaders for days. Now I hardly open the game anymore, i just get on for an hour do a few things and close the app for the day. Get my 50 coins, spin a stop, do a free raid, and get my daily catch. Outside of go fest and the tour thats essentially been my level of gameplay this year. Doesnt help that GBL is in a sorry state.

They are not listening if you are trying to appeal anything. Ban appeal is only a automatic response without any action, you are getting same message even if you create a new account with a new email that has no strike or ban, still the same message that you violated the ToS and that you will be ignored. If you contact the helpdesk in other way they still dont want to do anything, they just tell you that dont cheat and you will be ok. This pokestop rocket grunts limit showed us why we need an option to communicate, you need the option to appeal and that there is a way to get a fair check if you really cheated.

i think the next improvement when it comes to raiding should be allowing at least 5 remotes on shadow raids as a cap. so that remote people can at least get the mon, and the fanatic raiders will go and live raid anyways.

It wasn't a 6 hour event. It was 3 1 hour events spread out over 6 -7 hours. Still great.
And speaking of raid days, do you think, with Beldom community day classic coming, will that near future raid day be Mega Metagross? They need to get that out of the way before they do the MAXs, maybe.

Community days being only 3 hours is ridiculous and glad to hear you agree. It being limited to 2-5pm when that’s usually when my ADHD meds have started wearing off is a very rough time. I don’t have the capacity to do all the catching needed in that time to get enough XL candies and if it was back to regular 11am-5pm it’d mean so much for me especially if it’s that way for Beldum community day so I can hopefully get a shundo or if not that a 98% shiny (since I’ve still never got a shundo I am doubtful I ever will).
Elite Rayquaza vs Mega Rayquaza day and my community.
For community description reference, average Wednesday raid hour here starts with about 30 trainers. Some have to drive 20 miles to get here. By the 3rd raid, maybe 5 go in. 3ish trainers if we can go beyond 3 raids. Community days, most consider it grinding if they go long enough to catch the shiny family and leave. I've been playing for 20 months now. I'm trying to grow the community or at least grow an active core group.
Elite raids, most of the OG trainers noped out as soon as they heard "Elite". Niantic has taught my community "learned futility" over the years. The OG core doesn't want to turn out because they either don't need what's in scattered gym raids, aren't willing or able to travel back and forth across town to do 2 or 3 raids in a hour or past experiences were so unsuccessful they don't bother. That's the direction I'm now drifting towards unfortunately.
Trying to chase people on campfire was frustrating because it took like 15 minutes to get to a flare only to find that whoever lit it had raided and/or left. They have no idea if all the people in campfire chat got there or not and I can't message once I'm drive that I'm still traveling. It was "I'll join, be there in 12 minutes" and the race was on. No one seemed to be interested in doing many raids. If 1 was near them, they lit a flare and did it as soon as they had enough people. I lit a 6pm raid flare, only one person messaged asking how many trainers were there (just me) and they wished me luck. There isn't an online community for organization. The old groups are dead and I even started a new discord. Posters could put personal achievements, ask questions, I posted raid/event info. That died after a few months because the few who joined faded.
I drove miles for elite Ray raids that day. Zig zapping from 1 flare to another for the last 2 hours only to get 2 raids. When I finally found 8 trainers to do a raid, I never FOUND them. They lit a flare, I got there before it hatched at 5pm, I stood in the open near the gym alone. Some might have been raiding from cars/buildings. I think I saw 2 at a picnic table but couldn't tell what they were doing on their phones so I didn't approach them. I see why everyone here refused to do elite raids. 3 hours plus some prep time, 4 raids finished. 0 in person interactions the last 2 hours beyond 1 person saying "If you came for the raid, I'm the last to leave." as he shut his car door.
Mega Rayquaza day, it was great. There is a park with 5 gyms that we meet at for normal raid hours. A lot of the normal raiders showed up, trainers we rarely see showed up and we were able to reconnect a little and people I've never met showed. I was able to tell and invite them to Wednesday night raids. That's how we can grow the community here. Not chasing ghosts on campfire to gyms 30 blocks from each other. 3 hours total, 30 raids finished (nothing above 93% 😢 lol). Lots of fun interactions...and the shaved ice truck showed up. 😄

Mega Lucario: most already had good Lucarios so they raided the free passes and left because they only needed some Mega energy. Enough stayed though so that we played the whole event but only because it was at all the gyms.
Today was the 1st day of Shadow Lugia. I put the word out as much as I could. 1 other person showed up at the normal meet up place. We drove about 2 miles through the town to get to the nearest egg hatching soon. We lit a flare, nothing. Couldn't invite remoters. We got it to 20% health, timed out and gave up. I saw one other flare today but by the time I messaged, I got no response. It's just to watered down being stretched over so many hours with gyms spread out to far for groups to form. Probably no point in trying tomorrow. Learned futility.
Every community is different and I greatly love the game. I play it solo and love interacting with others but here, there isn't a point in putting hopes and effort into anything that is scattered and in person only unless we can duo it or its at every gym.
Lucario did have a mistake in it- the first few time zones didn't have the bonuses turned on (I know they weren't in NZ, same with ray raids). However Niantic still had a win, they gave us a second day of mega lucario raids with the bonuses turned on & gave everyone 18 free passes which allowed even those that hadn't bought the ticket to smash out lucarios on the Sunday (I was raiding with someone that hadn't got the ticket on the Sunday & they were super happy when they realised they had 18 free raids passes).
I actually wish they'd do the shadow raid weekends in the 3 to 6 hour raid day event for both days, as finding shadow legendries & also enough people to take them down is a big issue if you don't live in a population dense city with heaps of gyms close together.
The closest city to me (an hour away) has gyms spread out over a couple of hundred kms making it impossible to raid more than one (or two if you get really lucky) in a couple of hours on foot, so instead everyone does raid trains in their cars to try get 5 to 10 done over 6 to 8 hours- there is no community, no meeting new people, no social interactions & this has become the norm for every single shadow raid weekend.

A good thing to chat about is what are your goals in Pogo. For myself it's to be peak raid damage for all raid bosses, and to maximize on grunts/shadows. They're my favorite and I've already spent too much startdust on them to date.

Elite Raids are Tier 6, 20,000 HP
Tier 5 have 15,000 HP.

I have been burned out before. I took an entire year off and I wasn’t even level 40 yet. It was during 2017-2018. I came back after seeing one of Brandon’s videos and then I found you, Billy, and Nick. The four of you are my main staple for the game.
After returning to the game, I just do slow grinds. I’m not in a rush to get to any level. The only thing I want is my first Shundo.

I really love daxi but MAN, this one was hard to watch. His grammar is terrible, his random side rants and “ooo there’s a squirrel right there” random adhd outburst and getting side tracked has been getting real bad lately. He is really struggling getting out his full thoughts and doesn’t plan on what he’s trying to say before he starts recording and it feels very lazy lately. I really hope he starts to focus and plan his videos better before hand. I don’t want to keep seeing him getting lazier and lazier, slowly making his videos this hard to watch
honestly I think thats actually what I am heading towards - I am looking to make less scripted plans videos with random AUTENTIC conversations with breaks and side tracks cause thats who I am. My gf hurt her foot and we are very limited on how many shadow Lugia raids we can do this weekend. The game just ultimately needs to consider things like injury/accessibility while making changes to the game. Yes it's a game about going outside and exploring but why it's essentially off limits to people with mobility issues is beyond me.

Honestly I really wanna give them the credit of listening but I’m not 100% sold yet. The rayquaza and lucario mega raid days were a good start (even tho not a single mega rayquaza raid appears anywhere near me so I still missed out) but if we keep going the direction we’re going, then I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic about the future of the game and community

Honestly I've really enjoyed this summer on the game. I've managed to raise a community from the ground-up in our small town. We have over 50 members, most of which had never done a shadow legendary raid before. Super successful.
Niantic have been trying, and I do have them to thank for making a lot of new friends. One thing they could do is increase the trading distance, or just make it globally available. I have so many friends from across the sea that have lucky friends, but I'll never be able to trade with them.
Having an option to maybe show other trainers what pokemon you are after and have a matching system where it matches trainers with trainers that have the pokemon they want to trade.
They've definitely made the first steps by allowing us to trade items to share the eggs/star pieces with each other! If they keep this up, a lot of people will be very happy.

The changes to remote raids being a daily limit AND a price increase means that the Raid Days can actually be a good moneymaker for Niantic - I've done 20+ remotes every raid day this year because the increase happens later in the day in my time zone, but that's on top of doing a full three hours in person, and that's a lot of coins I'm spending. I'm probably not alone in that either, because since March those events have been great (Primals, then Mega Heracross, then Mega Lucario, then kind of Rayquaza).
I hope that the two days they've announced for September and October can live up to that.
talking about the end, i have been a pretty competitive chess player for most of my life, about 16 years (23 now) and im only now getting serious about school and other aspects of my life in regards to mental health, whenever i go to play even just a games online it turns into, hey why arent you studying 6 hours a day anymore and i end up just stopping all together, its rather sad but its just kinda the reality for me know, and i imagine thats how many feel about pokemon go to. i remember watching danottawas video recently and he talked about how he plans to quit eventually cause he cant do this anymore.
i do honestly believe that august is a banger of a month in comparison to the last couple ones we had in pogo so im excited for the rest of it. this is my first beldum comm day (have been playing hard for the past year or so) so im super stoked for that.

I feel like Niantic have started listening to their communities. Having Mega Lucario drop, then the Rayquaza raids, then Beldum community day one after another is good enough for me. Now we just need the next season after this to be just as good
It just depends where you are with the game. If your a new player your enjoyment is quite easy, once you’ve played a while and there are less challenges you need them to give you new research/pokemon/shinies etc etc.

I'm not exactly giving them any points for the Mega Rayquaza make up raid day since it is what should have been done in the first place or anything else they did that should have been done originally had they done that from the start I probably would have then. Although I did like how they did Mega Lucario raid day especially with getting all the XL candies.
As far as Adventure week wish Archen, Tirtouga, Amaura and Tyrunt were the wild as well. Although I still see wild Tyrunts and hatched a shiny Amaura.
One of my biggest complaints for niantic is the way they basically “punish” some of their players from the content, for lack of a better phrase. For example, shadow legendary raids (specifically ones that only last 2 days). I work a full time job that usually includes weekends. I feel like I definitely play a little more than casually but in no way am I grinding as hard as some either. And not because I don’t want to, but because I’m not able to because of work/life. Now most events I’m still able to make it work for me in some way, whether that’s remoting or going in person before/after work. And I agree we should have limits on remote raids. But the shadow raids only ever being in person make it insanely difficult to get to sometimes.
Now I understand their logic of wanting to get people out, but to me they’re basically punishing everyone who isn’t able to get out and go, from the content. What they could and should do, IMO, is either introduce shadow remote raid passes (can make them more expensive and harder to get, and/or limit the use of only 1-2 a day or only during events or something), or if not that at the very least for shadow legendary raids at least let them last all week instead of just on the weekends. If they’re set on keeping it on weekends only, then at least every hour a couple of gyms need to be popping the shadow 5 star raid eggs. They could also offer bonuses such as the rare candy XL for those who go in person to get more people out instead of remoting, etc.
I’m just tired of missing out on content when I play the game everyday, and what I’d consider hardcore for someone who also has a full time job and other commitments, but there are things I have to miss because I can’t just only ever play the game and not work. It’s just frustrating and there’s so many better ways to go about shadow raids, and multiple other things in the game that would give the bonuses and the incentives to get people out to play, but wouldn’t punish those who can’t for whatever reasons they may have.
I think they’re listening selectively, choosing which things they should listen to and ignoring the rest, like why does it seem like they’ve not responded to the issues with rocket interactions banning people? Plus they still make a bunch of other items harder to acquire than is ideal as well, for example silver pinap berries and charge TMs being mostly from battle league, raids and rarely seasonal research is a hassle.
Plus I wish once you reached a specific buddy level they would make it so you can start earning mega or primal energy even without having unlocked that mega evolution before and then once you’ve earned enough to mega evolve it, it much like it currently does it would mean you can earn mega energy from every Pokémon of that species can it’d just make the buddy mechanic work better and would encourage people to engage with that mechanic more, honestly similar mechanics with earning zygard cells on top of candies when it’s your buddy would be great too. Plus maybe have once you’re best buddies, reducing the distance for earning candies would be a game changer for legendaries.
Back to the other issues, 50 coins per day is not enough especially when you’ve had some Pokémon holding a gym for multiple days, we should be rewarded in some way when the gyms are held for extended periods of time because this way is pointless and encourages people to cheat more with things like alt accounts knocking them out of gyms. What could work is that after a Pokémon is in a gym for let’s say 8 hours get rewarded 50 coins straight away, you can’t earn more coins from this until that Pokémon remains in the gym for the rest of the or until it’s reached a certain amount of time in the gym at which point you get another 100 coins, then basically having it flow on from that into a gym holding streak that essentially means you can get up to 14,00 coins in a week if you guard gyms well and manage to organise a team well. This would still mean you can only get coins from one Pokémon in a gym a day but it wouldn’t work in the backwards way of rewarding you for your Pokémon getting knocked out of a gym. I know it’s unlikely to happen given that it’d mean players would probably spend less on coins, and they’re a company who care more about money than players but it’d make the gym mechanics have more meaning and people would care far more once their Pokémon is knocked out.

Jesus I just want "shadow raids" to be able to remote raid. Niantic is unable to understand that local play is dead, no one really wants to "drive car" to another city just to have at least a slight chance to get a mon, becouse they do not live in big city with active players. I missed so many mons just becouse its locked by local play. Today was a very short period of shadow lugia, had to drive like 30km to bigger city to a mall,to find only 2 players to topple it down in pain....then lugia runs away anyway becouse 12th Great/Excellent throws all with golden raz was too little, I am kinda pissed. With remote and campfire would be able to get at least 5-6players to make things easier and have higher chance to capture mon. Lugia was my fav mon from old GBC silver ed.

It would’ve been nice to see some regionals come into some events. Adventure week would’ve been a good time to add Relicanth (NZ regional) to everyone in the world. Even if it was locked to routes or party play to get people out. Would be nice to get the extra option. Not everyone can travel to get the hard to get regionals.
Only other option would be long distance trades I guess
I want to assume that Niantic is trying to find a balance between three things...

thank god it was 6 hours ❤ i didnt get off work at my bank till 130 so i missed the main group but because of the extended time, a few people stuck around to do more and i was able to get 2 hundos 😊 and a 96% shiny!!
I’ve recently returned to the game (well, only played back in 2016…) and was able to do a bunch of remote Rayquaza raids, but after looking into shadow legendary raids, it looks like this is something I’ll never be able to do given where I live.
I’d wager a lot of people are in this case, this shadow legendary raid might as well not exist for people like me. Unless I’m missing something ? Why no remote raid allowed ?
I started playing again 6 months ago and I think a major props I can give Niantic is that at least for newer plays a huge % of pokemon have been available so far this year. I think for non-legendary/regionals the only ones that have not been available in 2024 are Baltoy, Bruxish, Pumpkaboo and Wyrdeer. Even like half the regionals have been available in some capacity globally. Good chance by the end of year the 4 above will be catachable at some point. Now I'm just waiting for the raids to keep rotating since I missed so many legendaries in the first couple months back.
I let them know how much I loved the Lucario raids ❤ I am a cancer patient getting chemo, being able to remote raid keeps me in the game, also the Rayquaza makeup day ❤
I’ve been at the same job for 19 years and have always worked the weekends. Been playing Go since launch. If I’m lucky, I MIGHT get to catch the last 30 to 60 minutes of community day every month. Go fest, I got like 3 hours total between both days.
I wish I had planned adventure week better. A couple friends have a wedding several hours away in a decent sized metro area and the general original plan was to carpool and have singalongs. Fun, good, cool. I wasn't clued to the change of making it into a weekend away by the majority of everyone going, besides me. Found this out last night, the night before the wedding. Instead of two days grinding in a new city and hitting raids, I'm not even going to the wedding nor grinding 5x experience. Rip.
Those wild spawn produced from premium in game item incenses and a variety of lure modules type must be last longer (not despawn within one minute) because these items were paid items by Pokecoin.
Paid by Pokecoin game items to produce extra Pokemon to catch but players feels lost because they can't catch them in the maximum way.

Specific suggestions:
Friend gift mechanic is biggest drag. Maybe allow have an open all/send all button. Maybe only have it visible if a search string is being used. Or if specific friends are selected - like how we can select Pokemon.
We don’t need to see the gift types separately. All at once is fine.
raid days are definitely fun, but honestly the rare XL candy on Lucario barely meant anything unless you wanted to spend money.. after just having $27 worth of go fest & the week before tickets to spend another $7 or basically barely get any xls anyways

I am looking forward to more levels. Changes. Maybe the dynamax and gigantamax will help. I am almost 62 years old and started the first week in 2016. During the pandemic, this game kept me focused and provided a daily escape from reality. Sending gifts. Joining online communities. I had a global messenger group started locally and we brought in others from different groups. Those solitary holidays, we shared videos with toddlers opening their first gifts. And we raided 24 hours a day, primarily remotely, of course!
Since then I have hit level 50. The messenger community is relatively dead. I am in 2 in person communities and I like how Niantic is incentivizing meetups. But I also miss the Australian and European friends I chatted with thru the online group.
As for daily play. Currently I have about 390 friends. I can neither send gifts nor open them fast enough. I think Niantic should just allow us to hold 50 and open 50 at the very least. Both the item bag and pokemon storage are regularly increased. The last time I was caught up with gifts was last season when I happily purchased the monthly ticket with the perk of being able to open and hold 40 gifts. It might not be a big deal to many players, but it makes me feel disloyal😅 to be so behind!
Finally, I really do hope they add Level 60, even if it's super difficult, because nothing in the game was ever as rewarding as leveling up. I notice that most of my years-long friends 40:50 are also at level 50, so probably are millions of the people playing. I think those of us veterans are always willing to help newer players, but we need something more to look forward to!
Loved watching this while packing but I have a quick question:
Do you think that Niantic genuinely will release Mega Mewtwo soon? And will it be elite raids? They released mega Lucario perfectly imo .

Elite Raids must be a way for Niantic to encourage Campfire use. Basically required to use it for those. We use it a lot for Shadow Weekends, too.
future topic: alt accounts. There's been a few times in the past when we were able to defeat an in person raid because people had an extra accounts. It don't really bother me but I could see how it could rub someone the wrong way as it's against the rules. I am tempted because we tried to do the shadow lugia raids today and we were unsuccessful, felt like a big waste of time dragging family member and a friend out to help. Would like to hear you thoughts.
I think the biggest issue I have is the amount of events that have event pokemon behind 7km eggs. Like adventure week when they have the main pokemon of the event in 7km eggs. Yes you can get them in research but some of the researches revolve around hatching eggs. Also when they say that the event pokemon are shiny boosted it maybe would be nice to know how boosted they are. I think that if an event says boosted shiny rates and you are into spending lots on eggs then they should have very boosted shiny rates on the eggs especially if they are 7km eggs.
maybe the reason they allow more remote raids to be done on certain events could also be because it already gets most people outside and with a community. or at least that has been my expierence. like i used to not really go to the meet ups. i knew campfire and i knew they were there. i was just a bit unsure or even a bit scared to join a new group. but iv always wanted to give it a go. and the remote raid nerf kinda pushed me into that direction. now if there are big events like tour events, raid days or gofest i do pretty much always join them even if i can remote more. and i think this might be the case for a good amount of players. so they might not feel the need to try hard to get us out together.
3 to 6 hours is not a day. So dayum dumb to be a multi-million dollar company partnered with an even bigger company and we only get a few hours out of the day. Is it really that hard to work around time zones?
I will say I've been having so much fun with pogo again this summer has been great!
