i’ve been following umbrawigs for years now, since she was still just one person doing everything, and i’ve gotten to watch her become a legend in the cosplay community! honestly i’d go as far to say that she’s the inspiration for a lot of wig styling trends and techniques the community has adopted in the past 5 years. her wigs are so crazy you can tell when someone is wearing a commission by Maddie and her team at a con
She said it also takes 10 months ish depending on what kind of style, so literally no pay out it's all love and passion. 4000 is a very good price for the time and effort she put into the work
@@littlepeculiarthings They don't take that long you muppet. The process of making one might take months but thats due to her backlog. If you were to lay down the hair it's a matter of days not weeks.
It's weird to say this, but these are almost... TOO good? Like, they're SO accurately well done in cartoon style that they look a little bizarre/goofy on actual human beings. I don't think I'd ever wear a wig styled like this in one of my cosplays, but I admire the work that goes into this level of accuracy.
the ones with free flowing hair attached look good but the ones that are all static just kind of look like you're wearing foam or plastic pieces painted like hair because they are so static which can look a bit awkward, depending on the model wearing them.
I was thinking about drag and how drag is this but like still took down a notch(?) and fitted, that it doesn’t look “too good”. Also, I thought, at this point, why not just have painted foam hair in?
She has to find a balance between what people are willing to pay and how much she is willing to sacrifice. Just going to take a hunch here and say, even with professionals charging much more than that will probably lose her more customers than she'd win.

I don't think she means 600 hours of active work, a lot of that is probably waiting for stuff to dry/cure. If it was 600 hours of manual work that'd only equate to 7 wigs a year assuming they worked 12 hours every day. Totally guessing here, but I'd bet it's a couple of hours accounting for communication with the client, a couple days for research/design/gathering supplies a cumulative week of active work on the piece, then the rest of the time on the passive stuff. Either way, this level of craftsmanship definitely deserves a higher price!
It's as if you aren't finished dressing up without the wig or your hair being done. Seriously you can have everything amazing and I'll give that person total credit for how amazing their costume and make-up are but no wig or hair styling will definitely cause a otherwise next level cosplay to be left out in the cold.
these are so perfect as replicas for sure they're byper accurate but i could never actually wear one they almost look outlandishly silly on a real person, but I can admire the work that goes into them
I know it’s synthetic hair but for the price I’d expect the hair to look less fried. It’s quite noticeable on the Princess Daisy wig. I would not drop $400 on this let alone $4k I would rather have a foam headpiece that has hair texture. ʅ（◞‿◟）ʃ
Its actually really nice coz anime hair are unrealistic in the first place. And having a wig exactly as the character is something few can achieve. More power to people who are willing to spend time and money to their craft. Really awesome

600 hrs and $4000 ? Well this is a job you truly have to love because I just can not see where you can make a living at it. Not including the supplies, $4000 doesn’t even pay minimum wage. They are a work of art and absolutely stunning, not to mention spot on! Kudos to you!
I just put they better pay you what you’re worth for time and expertise but omg just did the math and that’s without materials. I love making jewellery and sell so much cheaper for kids etc but scaling that up to this kind of cost feels wild to me. Incredible talent there
The fact they’re doing it all with that length of nail took it from incredible to mind blowing!!! Like I know people can be so creative in working with long nails but the absolute dexterity needed for the detailing just makes it so extra impressive to me!
I believe I've watched her answer this or I may be thinking of someone who does a similar thing, but basically they're shipped on the wig head and in a big enough box to encompass the base and any ponytails or extra pieces come off for shipping! And as a cosplayer myself I'm sure any long hair can be braided so they don't get tangled and then you can hairspray and restyle those
@@beel629I’m sure with these type of wigs they don’t have any loose strands anymore they are basically rock hard and almost undestroyable (unless it’s like a jinx wig but even then you wouldn’t have to restyle it because they work with lots of glue instead of hair spray)

Tried commissioning Umbra Wigs (the company she runs) once and got an email back saying that someone had already commissioned that character’s wig, and that they don’t do copies for fairness of the original commissioner.
I almost cried when I didn’t see Anya. Aside from that, I love these wigs! The amount of time and energy it must take just to make one.. she’s great! ❤
I mean, at the convention you just KNOW when somebody has bought their first cheap wig and how hard it is to keep synthetic wigs from frizzing in convention heat. So this is impressive
There are some synthetic high quality wigs for around $40. They stay with hair spray/spray glue but they are also meant to be washed. I don't think these are washable but that's due to how they are made
