    You gotta remember what Lin went through after the incedent with her sister. Her sister hsd ro leave, then her mom quit, and she had to take over the entire police force, then her relationship went south with tenzin and then her mom left and never came back or contacted them. Then an anti bending revolution sprouted in your city. And it all comes back to Sui breaking the law.

    What I like about the way Zaheer going through the Airbender gates, you see him kind of brute forcing it.
    He's not, "being the leaf", he's doing these like cartwheels and stuff to smash through the gates. It's a good example of somebody who is talented, but not skilled, and it comes to a head during his fight with Tenzin later in the season.

    • @samlung2724

    I think an important detail to consider, about the Bei Fong Drama, is whether Su actually said sorry. Lin has woken up every morning and is reminded of their falling out by her facial scarring. If Su actually said "I am sorry" then she has more grounds for being upset with Lin holding a grudge. As it stands it seems like Su expects Lin to do the heavy lifting with reconciliation.
    On a lighter note, was Zaheer's hoping no one would recognize him without his unkempt beard? Did he attend the Sokka School of Subterfuge and Disguises? Wang's House of Obfuscation (WHO).

      I'm not saying Lin should hold a grudge but forgiveness for the sake of social cohesion and inner peace are very much Water Tribe and Air Nomad things. Su said just about the worst thing possible, other than blaming Lin for the falling out.
      Maybe I'm biased, I've had a similar spat with my siblings, not the scarring part but the trying to sweep a situation under the rug without a proper apology part. But I don't hold grudges lie that.

    • @joshuahecht6866
      @joshuahecht6866 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      That’s the point of Suyin
      She’s a hypocritical control freak who can’t stand the idea of not being a god in her city-state and only reached out to Lin and Toph out of ego and not love.
      Lin has every right to be angry it’s wrong to act on that anger.

    • @hammarkids542
      @hammarkids542  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@joshuahecht6866 none of that is displayed in the show, and I feel like a lot of people are misinterpreting her as a character. All the show tells us is that they had a massive fight when they were younger, it tore their family apart, Su and Toph are trying to reconnect, reach out and repair their relationships with each other and Lin is refusing to even try. After she refuses multiple times to talk everything through and heal, she’s still saying their family is torn apart and holding that against them despite being the only thing that’s keeping it that way. Su has VERY clearly matured and build something magnificent, had a wonderful family, and is in general very likable.
      I don’t know where everybody gets this “control freak who feels like god” notion from, nothing in Legend of Korra shows that.

      To be fair, it's been 13 years since anyone's seen Zaheer. He's had a restricted diet, shaved his head and beard, and now he's an Airbender. It makes sense nobody would recognise him, at least for a while.

    The reason why I like Zaheer as a villain is because he feels real. At first I was genuinely afraid of Zaheer because for the first time he felt like a huge actual threat.
    Him killing the earthqueen was such a powerful move. Though she was the queen, Zaheer dgaf.
    When Zaheer has Korra captured in the cave, the realisation actually hits that she may actually die. The red Lotus are an extremely strong and well assembled team. And then the massive powerplay of Korra. Imo the best fight seen ever. She is so bad ass like that.

    Toph was the owner of a metal refinery company and metal bending academy post 100 year war and the Beifongs were already wealthy before that. While the context isn’t really given a city constructed out of bending materials is feasible especially over a decade or two of time, look at how the southern water tribe has been.

    • @hammarkids542
      @hammarkids542  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The southern water tribe was made out of snow, which is easily manipulated and built into Igloos. Steel and metal has to be mined, refined, melted and bent into the shape you need it to be. Iron isn't abundantly lying around and it doesn't replenish every time it snows. They're two completely different materials with different properties.

      @@hammarkids542 iron is one of the most common elements on the planet if there was enough iron around to build cities like Republic city, Zaofu would be no different. Thrown in the fact that the city economy is based around metalbending, mining, refining etc. is already made easier not to mention Toph was literally the CEO of a company specifically for that. I’m sure Suyin used all that to her advantage.

    • @hammarkids542
      @hammarkids542  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@keonhazel2799 Republicly City isn't made of iron though, the buildings there are made of stone, concrete, wood, and glass. I'm sure there is SOME steel for the structural support. But not Zaofu with the entirety of it being made of JUST metal.
      Toph wasn't the head of a metal mining/production, and that's not all Zaofu does. You've made quite a leap to conclusions there.
      Toph just had an academy where she trained metalbenders in her early teenage years, then she became police chief. Nowhere in the comics, Korra, or ATLA says that toph was the "CEO" of a metal mining/refining city, so I'm not sure where you're getting that.
      Zaofu is never once mentioned to be the home of a steel production refinery. There's way too much metal everywhere, lots of metalbenders come here, and all we are told is Su bought this land and helped build it with her family. Never once does it tell us how she got all the materials to do all of that.

    8:45, as the little brother of my family, I relate heavily to Su Yin and her side of their sibling rivalry. Me and my older brother were constantly at odds with each other growing up because he was very much patronizing and harsh towards me while I would have issues sometimes with following directions because I'm on the spectrum, There were times where I wanted to smack him so freaking hard and get into a scrap with him to prove my worth to him, but we never did despite getting close on occasion. As we've both gotten older though, he's mellowed out quite a lot, and has been much more vocal with expressing how he feels about things (particularly things he's nervous or insecure about), and in return, I've worked towards respecting his wishes more and doing better with working and sharing space with him whenever he shows up. It does take time to mend these relationships, but in a way, Lin's grudge is very much an unhealthy one because unfortunately Toph was never really there to help them sort things out like how my mom and stepdad were. Sorry for the long ramble.

There's no way that she could have made all of this with the help of a couple hundred benders, let ALONE within just 10 years! Something like this would probably take over 100 years to make! PLUS, as you've correctly mentioned, metal is far more expensive than wood to use as a construction material because metal requires more to be sculpted and more to create as a whole! Its still a really cool location and I LOVE the design and scenery of it all, but it should have been on a much smaller scale.

First season Korra would probably do something harsh or lash out off the bat rather than try a more peaceful solution. Now she is a much more mature person and is slower to anger. I agree with you about zaofu being a gorgeous and aesthetically pleasing city, but logistically impossible. I think the issue with it is somewhere along the line, aesthetics and being visually impressive came before wordbuilding and logic. I wonder if the train exterior shots were sped up slightly for time's sake, considering the braking and the speeds not matching up between exterior and interior shots? it's not necessarily the case, but I do wonder if that happened. I actually really appreciate how the character designs blend then-modern aesthetics into the very 1920s setting of the show. opal has a hairstyle reminiscent of the bobs of the 20s, meanwhile her brother is rocking a skrillex style, and neither seem out of place, and it's all very well thought out.

      steel buildings are so expensive is because of the planning and man-hours that go into it, you need thousands of highly specialized workers years and years of paid labor to make something like the sears tower. Not to mention the cost of the metal is high because of the work that goes into mining and refining the metal we use. But if even one person in your city (let alone hundreds) can detect veins of ore with their feet create miles of mine shafts in a day by stomping and punching, and then rip that ore directly out of the ground, I think it would probably make it pretty cheap to make steel, and if those same people can then shape that metal into whatever form they need… towers like that would be pretty affordable.

      Also, there’s no reason to assume that the beifong family paid for every building in that city unless I’m wrong, and they actually say that at some point usually people pay for their own construction, not the mayor of the city. No doubt the beifongs paid for their own palace 😅 which again would not be as expensive as it looks.

      Also, the city is not even large. I counted five lotuses only one of which has skyscrapers and It looks like they’re only about 10 towers in the main area including the palace.

    this "being the leaf" only succeeds because zaheer calculated it. you are meant to close your eyes and feel your way throught it, feels the wind that comes from the movement of the spinning pannels, zaheer has his eyes open and can be seen briefly caculating as she spins in the middle a couple of times before moving on.
    i absolutely love this show and it's details, i personally like korra more because it feels like pays more attentions to these small details. plus korra was mean to be the *exact* opposite of aang which i think they got perfect. aang is a child who was forced into maturity because he was the avatar and needed to save the world. korra wasn't forced into anything, she was extremely happy as a kid when she found out she was the next one. aang is mature and calm, korra is more childish and brash, which is probably why people dislike korra. one of the other things people dislike is the love triangle, i get it's annoying but it's also the reason korra and asami (idk if that's how you spell her name) grew so close and ended up being together as "gal pals" (i'm not sure if they're girlfriends or even wifes at this point-ya'll know what i mean).
    korra having a female friend is great for her, most supportive people around her are men but so are most of the antagonists. and then also having the drama of makko who really shouldn't be in a relationship with anybody, seeing how he treats others, just misuses her trust and ends up breaking it. asami is a great person, never blaming korra for makko's behaviour and actually trying to be friends with her despite makko.
    i should stop rambling and probably re-re-re-re-re-re-re-watch korra because this show is great

    8:36 I don't think Lin was overreacting for 30 years, think with me, there are some topics I want to overanalize with you (lol):
    1 - Lin was literally working while Su would be running around with some criminals, of course nothing so serious but Lin is a law enforcer and Su was breaking the Law in front of her lol
    2 - Toph didn't want them to have the same childhood she had and wanted them to be free to do whatever they wanted, of course it didn't help, also Toph wasn't very present in their lives, they would've known better I guess
    3 - Lin being the older sister was given the role that psicologists call ''parentification'', yeah, Toph was out and Lin had to take care of Su, like she was a mother, no wonder Lin argument with Tenzin which lead to their break up was probably because he wanted kids to bring back the air nation and Lin of course didn't agree with that (also funny that Su ended up having a big family because for her it was what she needed while Lin got some hard time being around any kind of family scenarios)
    4 - Lin saw Toph retire because of guilt, of course Toph wouldn't admit it but we know it is the truth, this made she feel even more resentment towards Su
    5 - Thre is a scar on Lin's face thanks to Su, thats effed up
    6 - We never see Su saying sorry, she is always on defense, or when they seemed to be well Su just brush it off not saying anything because Lin seems in a good mood after acupuncture, Lin on other hand apologize for Opal, a big step but Su never give it in on apologizing
    7 - at the end of the day Lin had a harder time since their teen ages while Su had that younger sibling privilege

    • @hammarkids542
      @hammarkids542  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is all valid, but you missed one of my biggest points when talking about this, and I'll get into it more next episode.
      Lin definitely has a right to be angry at Su, but the fact that it's been over 30 years since the incident AND Su and Toph have reached out on multiple occasions to try to make up and apologize now puts the blame on Lin for the family still being in shambles.
      Su fucked up, yes, but Lin is angry at the fact that their family is still torn apart and won't even TRY to fix it.

      Zaheer is not the type of person to attack innocent people that don’t have it coming. He loves his kind and won’t kill them under any circumstances. Zaheer is good but flawed though had he see that his short term methods only makes the world worse, he should look into long term solutions with leaders who actually cared about their people and their world like Zuko and Tonraq.
