So as far as the nurses, has Hopkins brought in foreign nurses for lower pay? Kaiser did this out here in San Diego County, CA, where I currently live. They brought in foreign-Filipino nurses, got rid of full-time workers (nurses, etc.), & brought in more part-time. I used to go to Kaiser & i noticed these changes when I would go to my evening appointments. One of the workers told me they had "re-organized" & changed their employment system, where they put more of them on a part-time status. This started in the mid 2000s.

So John Hopkins controls Baltimore? Hmm. I'm originally from Baltimore (city/county). After graduating from Morgan (1988-1993), I went into the army. I remember when Hopkins took over the old baseball stadium, Memorial Stadium, I don't know, or something like it......it's been a while. I remember back then, the running joke was that Hopkins was going to take over/run Baltimore City. Back then, Hopkins had a 24 hrs computer lab; i used to use it when our computer lab at Morgan (business dept) closed down at 12am. I thought that was pretty cool then. But now, wow. Baltimore better be careful & reign this organization in because if it is up to Hopkins they will appoint their "mayor" or "city manager" to run the city making the whole Baltimore City council, mayor's office obsolete. We are moving closer to having corporations strictly run our "government" making our present day politicians, government agencies, legislation branches, judicial branches, & executive branches obsolete, invalid, null, & void institutions. It's coming, if not already here.

Absolutely true. An even larger and scarier example of the corporatization of the Government is the US military. The military has grown so large and compartmentalized it is the most inefficient, money consuming dragon that our forefathers could not even imagine. The agency heads are all corporate elites whose sole purpose is to build up the military even more which inevitably requires a"boogieman" for an adversary. We have now it seems put al Qaeda to bed and are resurrecting the old Russian bear as our new enemy. In addition, China is also a new adversary, after the west industrialized China for the past 40 years. The globalists are the commies of old. Not so hard to figure out.

You mention Morgan State College. How is it that Johns Hopkins has become such an economic driver in Baltimore while Morgan State remains in the background?
I grew up in Harlem. Columbia University has been part of the fabric of Harlem before Harlem was Harlem. The City College of New York (CCNY) has been part of the community's fabric for several generations as well. Hunter College now has its School of Social Work in Harlem.
What is no longer in Harlem or in existence period is Malcolm-King College. It folded 40+ years ago.
What do we need to do to make institutions that are supposed to serve us become stronger? How do we make institutions that are supposed to serve us be accountable to us? If Johns Hopkins is such a behemoth of an institution, what should people do to curb its power? How can Morgan State re-position itself? How can grassroots movements influence these institutions and those who hold public offices?

Unfortunately, this is all too common. In Detroit we have billionaire Dan Gilbert buying up distressed properties in the downtown area (so many properties that the local media is now referring to Downtown Detroit as "Gilbertville") yet in order to build the brand new Little Caesar's Arena, Gilbert secured a huge tax break in exchange for a promise to invest in the surrounding neighborhoods. Well, Dan has his LCA and the affluent can take in events there but the surrounding neighborhoods are still languishing in distress.
Our previous governor, Rick Snyder courted Foxconn enticing them with a $10Bn over 10 years tax break to come build an iPhone factory in Grand rapids (which fell through and Foxconn went elsewhere, most likely due to our decrepit infrastructure here).
At some point the politicians have to see that giving away future tax revenue to the wealthy is a bad idea and eventually the bills will still come due! We all must pay our fair share, from the uber wealthy to the impoverished (true charities like Churches or Soup Kitchens should get a tax break though).
By the way, the Foxconn deal would've brought thousands of jobs but they would've only paid slightly above the state's minimum wage - a rotten, lousy deal for the state's residents.
As a society, we are incentivizing community failures with public money. Over 70% of Michigan's bridges are structurally deficient. People have died waiting for an ambulance to come, not because of a shortage of ambulance services, but because they had to be rerouted around bridges that have been closed for safety reasons!
But hey, c'mon downtown (Detroit) and take in a Redwings game or a concert at Dan's latest money maker (if you can afford the ticket price)!

So, banks were given unlimited amount of money by the Fed at an interest rate that continuously compounds and creates more debt--creating a financial bubble. That pushes down the value of the dollar. So, the dollar is worth like 3 cents from when it was worth 100 cents. And, the lack of schools creates more demand, so they raise prices. So, students are forced to borrow to afford to go to those remaining schools. So, if the government paid for tuition, then, there would be more schools--because, more people would be able to pay and less would go to just paying interest. Churches? What about all
      Chemical plants especially in
      Louisiana that make a billion
Dollars a day and pay practically 0 taxes. Leaving
      Louisiana without money
      For education, city services,
Low teacher pay, police, nurses. Louisiana has highest
Illiteracy rate in USA. Talk about corporate greed.
      Louisiana compared to Texas
      Relating to chemical plants.
In Texas these oil and gas
      Producing plants pay higher
      Taxes and highways, schools,
      Education for its citizens
Are so much better than Louisiana.

Hagee believes in Pentecostal practices such as the "baptism of the Holy Spirit." He also believes in the "absolute authority of the scripture," baptism by immersion, and evangelism.
Hagee publicly has stated that he believes the Bible commands Christians to support the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
      > Not too smart either and of course a science denier.
In 2007, Hagee stated that he does not believe in global warming, and he also said that he sees the Kyoto Protocol as a conspiracy aimed at manipulating the U.S. economy. Also, Hagee has condemned the Evangelical Climate Initiative, an initiative "signed by 86 evangelical leaders acknowledging the seriousness of global warming and pledging to press for legislation to limit carbon dioxide emissions."
Hagee denounces abortion, and stopped giving money to Israel's Hadassah Medical Center when it began performing the procedure.

Paradise was zoned to provide a tax shelter for the big casinos, resulting in crumbling infrastructure and the worst schools in the nation. If you walk a mile from the Strip in any direction you are surrounded by poverty and homelessness yet the casino executives are worth hundreds of millions of dollars (if not billions). It's unfortunate that organizations that receive indirect and direct benefits from the city don't just offer to make contributions. But the wealthy are wealthy because they don't put out until they are forced to. There is no kindness or consideration in their system - we're talking "cold blood", which is why they can easily ignore the poverty around them.
Fundamentally we need to change the capitalist system that breeds inequality, austerity, racism, sexism - basically group conflict - and so many other untoward behavior.

Easy fix....stop providing city services and stop them from hiring their own police. Watch how quickly they start paying their fair share. Thanks again Taya to you and your staff, for another great show. Keep up the fight!

Great program ... How about the 3 panelists commence this effort by paying 50% tax voluntarily ... It is easy to tell others to pay taxes

There are two sides here in North America, Private and Public. Private is exempt from laws and has rights, Public only has liberties. Everyone has a choice to educate themselves to chose which side you do your business on. I own my land, claimed my deed and put it into a private trust, so i don't pay slave taxes too. House Joint Resolution 192 is a great place to start and start claiming your rights back. Become a Secured Party and there system will fall.

We took the property tax from the urban core to build the infrastructure in the suburbs. As taxes were used to subsidize the suburbs growth, and we left the infrastructure of the urban core to deteriorate. Now that the infrastructure of the suburbs is over 50 years, the infrastructure of the both cannot be maintained. So the urban core become a blighted neighborhood. Yet we build more roads in the suburbs. We can see how the urban core looks like a refugee camp.
