    I'm just revisiting this tutorial after my first time a couple years ago when I had just opened my Curio. I was completely green to any cutting machine. Even though I have since invested in a Cameo 3; and made it through a few projects, I still work very hard and stressfully to do so. I have yet to complete an embossing project (which was my original purpose). I must say your creation of this embossing method is genius. Clever indeed! I will try it now that I am better able to follow. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you so much!!! My result was not too deep because my stencil isn't thick enough,
    but this definitely works much better than the standard debossing technique with filling the shape etc.

    I actually took the wide embossing tool and punched the silver thing out to make me a pinholder because I never thought I would use the embossing because every time I tried it it never worked but now looking at this oh I am definitely going to use the small embossing tip. I kept the smaller embossing tool because it created the best results and I have no idea how to use the wide one but either way I'm still content because I have a hand engraver and I cut it in half and put it in the old wide embossing tool so now I have an etching pen 😊

    Fabulous Kay. For stencils the Metal clayers have been using pj stencils 10 mil (heavy duty) stencil material. It cuts like a dream with a blade of 10. Might give a slightly deeper (more raised ) emboss. Can't wait to try this :)

    Brilliant. I just got a used Curio with the extended mat for $75 - I was searching how to cut and emboss and if you had to switch the mats. It's going to be a bit of a learning curve but am certain it will be worth it. Thanks for your very helpful and detailed videos - where do you suggest a beginner start. I have had a craftrobo - Quickutz machine for years and then upgraded to the Cameo 12" version one that suited me fine. Now the Curio. I was hoping it would cut thicker things but maybe not as I am doing more research. Still, the price was right so no regrets.

    Who's to say this smart technique can't work on the cameo? Ive done this a couple of times on my cameo, however the benefit of the alignment on the curio would be great since I'm not getting a ton of success with the pixscan mat with my cameo. I mostly just place the cut lower down the mat so I can access the cut and I don't unload between cutting and embossing so it lines up.

    • @cleversomeday
      @cleversomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had no trouble lining it up on the Cameo, but I could not get enough pressure for an acceptable emboss.

  • @robineiz

    Does the curio work as good as a manual embosser like big shot? For example, is the final emboss deep?haven,t done it either way yet-just trying decide which way to go. Thanks- love your calm clear voice

    • @cleversomeday
      @cleversomeday  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The final emboss using this technique is very similar to a Cuttlebug/Big Shot (maybe 80% as deep). However this takes more setup time for the initial design and is limited to stencil friendly images, so I don't consider it to be a replacement for my Cuttlebug, but a chance to flat emboss custom designs.

    Aaaaawesome! Something I always wonder about....what does the overcut setting do?

    • @cleversomeday
      @cleversomeday  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      makes the blade overrun a corner, pick up and start the next segment instead of turning the corner with the blade down. Kinda like the difference between running to first base and rounding second base. Especially helpful for getting clean cuts with thicker media.

    Tried this with the Cameo 4 with a custom tool holder on the second powerful carriage. Unfortunately there are no toolpath options available for that side that don’t generate loops for blade positioning. It’d just be a simple software tweak to allow “sketch” or some other option. My tests would be a beautiful result if not held back by a slight software limitation :(

    • @cleversomeday
      @cleversomeday  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't think I haven't been screaming for this since the day the Cameo 4 was released, actually before then. Please let support@silhouetteamerica.com know you, too, would like an embossing and/or scoring tool for Tool 2 and software support for straight tools.

    • @mubute
      @mubute 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cleversomeday Yeah, already did. Made a few Facebook and Reddit posts too. Even tagged them in an Insta post. There’s so much potential there held back by something so small :( I think earlier software versions even had a “cut” which would at least have been very small loops. Hope we can find a way to get really loud about this. No reason this wouldn’t be a smart move on their part to sell a super basic embossing tip too that they could crank out quickly. Thanks for being a voice on this.

    • @mubute
      @mubute 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cleversomeday Off to SCAL I went. In hindsight would have not purchased the Silhouette software but what’re ya gonna do. Hopefully people are aware of this path for this sort of thing until Silhouette implement some more toolpath options for us. Thanks again for the inspiration :)

    • @cleversomeday

    • @mubute
      @mubute 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cleversomeday it sure does :) The same toolpaths are available for either carriage. Which opens up all sorts of fun options. Just have to be careful since that second carriage has a lot of power (even at its lowest settings). But you can tweak that with your own custom tool depths to give yourself a useful range.

    • @cleversomeday

    • @cleversomeday
      @cleversomeday  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do score and emboss on the Curio (or Cameo) but you won't get the kinds of results you see here without a stencil.

    • @cleversomeday
      @cleversomeday  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not been able to get a good emboss with this technique using the Cameo. Even though it is the same downforce as a Curio, it just doesn't leverage the pressure as well for this technique.

  • @starscapes8853
    @starscapes8853 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a cameo but I haven't unpacked it yet. I make extensive use of my silhouette though. I'm unclear how this technical achieves the flat emboss look though. The inner offset (blue line) in your video is what is actually embossed, but doesn't that still just trace the outlines? What causes the "flat"? There isn't any "filling" like some people do with sketch pens to fill in fonts?

    • @cleversomeday
      @cleversomeday  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you watch the whole video you will see this is a totally different technique. If you ever used a hand stylus to emboss with a brass stencil on top of a light box, it is the same idea, and produces a lovely flat emboss with no fill.

    • @starscapes8853
      @starscapes8853 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cleversomeday Thank you! I haven't tried the hand stylus before but I did after your comment. Very very cool! I tried embossing with my new Curio. Just a square with dashed lines, kind of like die cuts that give a stitched look. For some reason, the horizontal lines look good but the vertical lines are less defined! Have you encountered this?

    • @cleversomeday
