This young lady is one multi talented woman as well as a wonderful person. I have never met Selena but her personality shines through her eyes and her voice. She’s a gentle careing hard working soul.
Such a great presentation! This is a great time of year for making products like this. I particularly like the step-by-step presentation of ingredients and portions. Wishing you all the best as 2024 really gets going. :)
Syleena, I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet you , Bob and several others from the Blue Ridge Honey Co. team at NAHBE this year. I enjoyed the Co.'s beautiful booth (especially the soaps) so much, and didn't leave the expo without quite a few purchases made from it. This video is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and talent with us!
Thank You Selena! One of the best video's of how to make soap from beginning to end I've seen! I want to get into soap making at some point, great starting point for anyone looking to get into the craft.
Great job Syleena. Brought back memories of making detergent bars at Unilever, 30 years ago. Lye was called "Caustic Soda" and we used rubber gloves and googles, while handling it.
She does a wonderful job teaching her soap making. Thanks for such a detailed video. I also make some for personal use but always wear safety goggles when making and pouring the lye. My friend who was a professional soap maker nearly lost her sight when lye splashed up and got in her eye.
Looked to me that the hardest part of the process was lining the boxes! I'm a soap maker (beekeeper too) and thoroughly enjoyed the video. Complete and detailed. Well done! Oh!! BTW, I use a stand mixer and the mixing is slower, yes, but when I have used a stick blender like you the tracing can get ahead of me pretty quickly. That's just me.
I loved this video! Everything was explained well and I think I could do this now. I have been a bit afraid to attempt working with lye but this video has given me confidence! Syleena is a great teacher, just like you Bob. Thank you for posting this!
Wow that is a real process. Not too hard but it is a fairly stringent process needing patience and detail. This is definitely a business within a business.
I enjoyed watching this episode, for people who want to give soap making a go remember that you must wear Goggles to protect your eyes Selene should to I hope Bob reads the comments and gets her some 👍🏻
Great video Selena! Why don't you add honey to soap? Also, that mixer would be best if hanging from the ceiling on a spring. I've seen it in another video and thought it would save on any shoulder strain.
👍Щиро дякую, в цьому відео знайшов відповідь на всі свої запитання по миловарінню (Thank you very much, in this video I found the answer to all my questions about soap making)
@@bobbinnie9872 Thanks Bob, love watching your videos! Expanding my apiary over the next few years. Hope to see you at the conference in Louisville this Jan.
Excellent video. Have you made soaps with 2 scents that have been made separately? If so, how do you cause the 2 parts to stick together? Thanks so much! Sue
@@bobbinnie9872 My husband’s most favorite soap is one that had only about 1/3 of Frankincense, the rest being a different color and either no or very mild sense. Been looking for it again ever since. I’ll be ordering your soap to see if that will work for him. Thanks again! You’ve given me what I needed to try soap myself. And thanks again for visiting the Va State Beekeepers annual convention last year! Sue
Another interesting Video, My wife is wanting to have a go at soap making ... I am in New Zealand I have a question about transporting Hives on a trailer....(I should have asked around a month ago when You were loading a trailer with hives.) Do you always face the hives front to back or is it ok to have them sideways?? The reason is the trailer I use is 1200mm wide and 2000mm long, ( Around 6 foot x 4 foot) or 2.9 hives wide and 3.7 long the 0.9 and 0.7 are unusable space! If the hives travel sideways I could fit 10 hives on a load. The journey is around 5 hours. I would be interested in your thoughts.
@bobbinnie9872 I could of sworn I read a comment you wrote somewhere saying that you didn't want to sell your propolis because you were using it for soap? What benefits would it add to the soap?
We do have it saved for soap but it wasn't in this recipe. It can help protect against existing skin problems due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
Great video but I have to agree with comment below please wear safety specs and if possible reshoot the video with safety specs on... Look up the hazards for the ingredients.. It's not worth the risk plus all of us would love to see more videos from you.... Stay safe
Wonderful presentation Selena! I’ve always been a bit gun shy to work with lye but now I want to make a batch of soap. You do a great job of instructing.👍🏻 Hey Bob, how about having Selena give a soap making class at NAHBE next year as well as your gal with candle making? A lot of beekeepers could benefit from “in person” demonstrations.
This was interesting and educational. Seems to be on par and us learning more every Sunday morning. We make our own soap. Although we have never done it using Beeswax ............................................................................ YET! So definitely something that we might explore this Spring and soapmaking. So far Lemongrass had been our favorite. Then so MANY options that we will be trying. As always thank You for another informative learning fun video!
That was very informative! I can only imagine the smell of that room! Great instructional video, Syleena! Also, the biggest immersion blender I've ever seen 😳 😂. When you said you wash it off, do you just do that in the sink? I guess it is just soap, but I can't get over the oil and wax in the drain. The lye must break the oils down? Thanks for sharing!
I love your soap video!!! Thank you for sharing, great job.👏 I was wondering if you could make me a soapbox mold like the one you have in the video? If so how much? I’d sure love to buy it from you. Love the lid too. What kind of blanket did you use to cover the box? It looks like a nice heavy weighted blanket. Thank you, Maria 😊❤
Thank you Maria! I believe I said “warming blankets” in the video but they are actually moving blankets. You could use a different type of blanket, we just had these on hand. I will ask Bob about making custom soapboxes and see how much they would cost.
Nice job. You know, most of the hand-made soaps I see have one surface that looks rough, it's always put me off. I prefer it how you make it. Do you ever make an oatmeal and orange soap?
Goggles are a MUST! Please, please have her wear goggles. Lye can blind you.
I am a retired science teacher. Please use goggles when making soap. Lye can destroy your eyes.
And a respirator too. Otherwise a great video.
I boil frames in lye and I learned the value of goggles the hard way.
This young lady is one multi talented woman as well as a wonderful person. I have never met Selena but her personality shines through her eyes and her voice. She’s a gentle careing hard working soul.
Outstanding!!! Enjoyed every minute. I could listen to her all day. Hated to see it end. More. More. More.

👍 Thank you Frederick.
That’s a substantial investment to make soap. Anyone who complains about the price, have them watch this video. Great job.
I always enjoy listening to someone who is passionate about their craft!!! Another great video Bob!!!
Congratulations Syleena

You're absolutely amazing Syleena!
Appreciate the details and information; great presentation! Thank you Selena and Bob 😊
Great video - explained a complicated process very clearly.
Thank you very much. I learned a lot because I am also making my soap with pure coconut oil. This helped me a lot to improve my product. Thank you!

Parabéns parece fácil ,mas já deve ter muita prática em fazer sabao obrigado pelo vídeo
What a great tutorial! I was thinking the caustic soda is corrosive, doesn't it attack metals like this large pan and also the mixer blades?
So far all works well.
Nice
Thank you Mr. Bob and Syleena for the awesome soap video, do you by chance have a video to make the lip balm?
Not yet but thinking about it.

Now that was a good Sunday morning coffee video. Great job , enjoyed it.
Very nice video. 1st class and great job Selena. Well done

This was awesome!
I’ll check the description, but where did you get the trays with the mesh screen ?
This does look like fun.
The trays came from a restaurant supply. They are very common in bakeries.
Most large cities have a restaurant supply store but sometimes you have to hunt for it. You can always order online too
Kohl's has them here.
