The darling string choice of most bluegrass pickers, the J74 was replaced with the designation EJ74 (with no change to the strings) quite some time ago. IMO if you're not letting an instrument sit for long periods to discolor/corrode, and do not have excessive or acid sweat, these 'naked' Phosphor Bronze are a good go-to for most mandolins and their pilots.
