Pleasantly surprised and really appreciate the focus on a group of antelope and a particular subfamily no less. It can be difficult to find media covering the vast array and nuances of antelope.

Is it derived from the word “beast” since a lot of Africaan is based on English and Dutch rather than other African languages, and does usually spell things differently.

The same happened to me when I was learning English.
In Brazil we call them "Gnu", turns out it's a Bantu word, but we pronounce it in a portuguesified (lusofied?) way, as in "gee-noo".
"Wild beast" is a very succinct name, when I first saw it I thought it was unflattering for the thing, but it's so numerous it would make sense too, I thought.

This is something I read somewhere. Zebras and wildebeesten often live together because the zebras eyes are on tue side while the beests have them in front. Together they have a larger range to spot danger. on the livestream of Africam they are always together.

You should know that white-bearded wildebeests and blue wildebeests are actually separate species, with the white-bearded wildebeest being scientifically named Connochaetes albojubatus and the blue wildebeest being scientifically named Connochaetes taurinus, with the white-bearded wildebeest having two subspecies: the Eastern White-Bearded Wildebeest (Connochaetes albojubatus albojubatus) and the Western White-Bearded Wildebeest (Connochaetes albojubatus mearnsi) and the blue wildebeest having only three subspecies: the Nyasaland Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus johnstoni), the Cookson's Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus cooksoni), and the Brindled Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus taurinus), with the blue wildebeest being more closely related to the black wildebeest than either is to the white-bearded wildebeest.

Be aware of a commenter called Indy Reno. He constantly posts taxonomic misinformation and ignores criticism.
An example here is that the white-bearded wildebeest is NOT a distinct species, it's a subspecies of the blue wildebeest. The same applies to the others; they are blue wildebeest subspecies.
As usual Reno, you make it up as you go along.

@Dr.Ian-Plect, actually, there are three extant species of wildebeest: the White-Bearded Wildebeest (Connochaetes albojubatus), the Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus), and the Black Wildebeest (Connochaetes gnou), the blue wildebeest is more closely related to the black wildebeest than the blue wildebeest is to the white-bearded wildebeest, which is why they are now treated as separate species, with the white-bearded wildebeest being divided into two subspecies: the Eastern White-Bearded Wildebeest (Connochaetes albojubatus albojubatus) and the Western White-Bearded Wildebeest (Connochaetes albojubatus mearnsi), the blue wildebeest being split into only three subspecies: the Nyasaland Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus johnstoni), the Cookson's Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus cooksoni), and the Brindled Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus taurinus), and the black wildebeest having only two extant subspecies: the Zimbabwean Wildebeest (Connochaetes gnou zimbabwensis) and the Cape Wildebeest (Connochaetes gnou gnou).

You should know that damalisks are actually six species under two genera, with Damaliscus now applying only to white-fronted damalisks now being two separate monotypic species: the Bontebok (Damaliscus pygargus) and the Blesbok (Damaliscus phillipsi), while all the black-fronted damalisks, which are now four separate polytypic species constitute a separate genus, which is Elaphops, where the four extant species of black-fronted damalisk are the Tsessebe (Elaphops lunatus), the Topi (Elaphops topi), the Tiang (Elaphops tiang), and the Korrigum (Elaphops korrigum), with each species having two subspecies, the two subspecies of tsessebe are the Bangweulu Tsessebe (Elaphops lunatus superstes) and the Common Tsessebe (Elaphops lunatus lunatus), the two subspecies of topi are the Inland Topi (Elaphops topi jimela) and the Coastal Topi (Elaphops topi topi), the two subspecies of tiang are the Eastern Tiang (Elaphops tiang tiang) and the Western Tiang (Elaphops tiang tchadensis), and the two subspecies of korrigum are the Eastern Korrigum (Elaphops korrigum camerunensis) and the Western Korrigum (Elaphops korrigum korrigum).

@Dr.Ian-Plect, it is not misinformation, because there are now 166 extant bovid species under 72 genera, damalisks are not one but actually two genera, which are Damaliscus for the white-fronted damalisks and Elaphops for the black-fronted damalisks, in addition to officially being six extant damalisk species instead of two as the bontebok and blesbok are now treated as two separate monotypic species of white-fronted damalisk and the tsessebe, topi, tiang, and korrigum are now treated as four separate polytypic species of black-fronted damalisk, while being four separate species, the Tsessebe (Elaphops lunatus) has two subspecies: the Bangweulu Tsessebe (Elaphops lunatus superstes) and the Common Tsessebe (Elaphops lunatus lunatus), the Topi (Elaphops topi) has two subspecies: the Inland Topi (Elaphops topi jimela) and the Coastal Topi (Elaphops topi topi), the Tiang (Elaphops tiang) has two subspecies: the Eastern Tiang (Elaphops tiang tiang) and the Western Tiang (Elaphops tiang tchadensis), and the Korrigum (Elaphops korrigum) has two subspecies: the Eastern Korrigum (Elaphops korrigum camerunensis) and the Western Korrigum (Elaphops korrigum korrigum), the Bontebok (Damaliscus pygargus) and Blesbok (Damaliscus phillipsi) are monotypic species and are therefore not divided into subspecies.

What ? You're saying "Un'goro crater" in World of Warcraft is inspired by "Ngorongoro crater" ?

It would be pretty cool if you can make a detailed video of how hunting helps conservation, ensures genetic diversity and how important it is for first world countries paying big money to do so.. Thus helping the community etc... Especially in fenced areas. Ideally it would have been awesome if we could have just fenced ourselfves in and let nature roam free and continue to do as it does.. Unfortunately poaching yea... Please man it would be a tremendous effort to do it myself.

Ooo and how to do so ethically not just shoot tame animals.. That's not hunting.. You know like how elephant starve to death and it is more merciful.. Yeaa it is complicated but just do some research and you might make a big difference in conservation
