I actually like what they gave to us with derek and casey in this movie, they're no longer rivals anymore. They're real friends, friends that bicker alot sure, but friends none the less. It shows real character growth.

But still. It's cool, actually. Casey and Derek started out as enemies, and now they're in a position where they might even consider each other real siblings. They sure act like it at any rate.

to my understanding, they apparenyly didn't have Lizzie and Edwin and Marti in the reboot because there were too many characters in the film. They wanted to save them for the TV Show (which this film was like a pilot for).

As far as I know, Danny's gone into comedy and regularly does stand-up shows and trivia nights in Toronto, and Ariel has become a writer. Jordan Todosey (Lizzie) is still acting, I think, but she seems to be focusing more on music these days (she recently released her debut EP under the name odditie). It's possible that the three of them could still be on the show, but who knows. My guess is the showrunners wanted the door open for them in case any of them decide they want to return, but at the same time didn't want to force it either.
