    Thank you for making this video. So many people are ignorant on the Khazars and their Turkic origins. People cannot just accept that Turkic nomads accepted Judaism. They make up wild claims they were the 13 tribe of Israel.

      People accept that nobles converted, people deny that the Khazarian people were mostly Jewish and the idea that there was a mass conversion. There wasn't.

      The Khazars were not only of Turkic origins. Turkic tribes were the backbone of that culture. Khazaria was a multi-ethnic confederation that included Germanic peoples, descendants of the Goths, descendants of the Huns, a Turkic group, Slavic peoples, and the Magyars, an Ugric tribe and forefathers of the Hungarians. Throughout the centuries, after the fall of Rome, this vast area straddling both the Black and Caspian Seas had amassed such groups of a wide variety of origins who had wanted to enter the Roman Empire. In the 9th century the Magyars (Hungarians) left this confederation and migrated to central Europe and began raiding many villages of the German Empire until they were halted in Bavaria. They were settled in the Pannonian basin, in the puszta of modern-day Hungary under the condition that they accept Catholicism, which they did. However, previously, they had been an important group of the Khazarian confederation and there are toponyms in Hungary that allude to peoples from Khazaria founding villages in the Hungarian Empire, ending with -kozár which hint and the origin of their settlers. Perhaps that is why Budapest still today houses the largest community of Ashkenaz Jews in all of Europe.

    The Khazar Khaganate was an extraordinary Turkic empire in terms of their influence and faith. As far as I know the Khazar Turks first believed in Tengrism(The sky tengri) which was the official faith of the Turkic ppl before Islam.I think the khaganate later chose judaism but I read that tengrism was also dominant in the khaganate together with judaism.
    By the way what is fascinating is the titles like kagan, tarkan are the most used male names in Turkey today.

So who then are the Jewish people? well, just ask the bible and it will give you a description, including those who will be sold to all nations as slaves on ships.
      lol so back to your informed comment about "we wuz kangs". You are arguing for that history against the person who is included in your argument.

Unless it effects western history, it doesn't get talked about much in western history class. Groups like the Khazars, the Avars, the Alans,etc...just didn't effect western history much.

    The Chinese and Turks (both Asians) were fighting for the supremacy of northern China for hundreds of years (before Christ). The Turks lost and fled west, but in the 6th century, they became powerful and built the Gokturk Empire, as in the video. Khazars are an offshoot of these Gokturks, who crossed the Volga in the 7th century and conquered what is today southern Russia and Ukraine. Kiev for example means "outpost" in their language.
    After the Gokturk Empires in Central Asia went belly-up, the Khazars thought their deity abandoned them and sought a new god who would promise them the world. They did. Unfortunately. They thus converted to Judaism.

    • @Didgevillage
      @Didgevillage 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Khazars spoke a language similar to today's Turkish and Kazak (of Kazakhstan) but they branched into several groups. One group is the Azerbaijani today, the other Kossacks of Russia and still another group Ashkenazi Jews who converted to Talmudic Judaism, plus some small groups on Crimea. Khazars and Arabs fought in the Caucasus, but neither of them were good at fighting on mountainous terrains and their battles were indecisive.

    I've recently gone through all your videos and I have to say this is my favorite. The grand scale of the story, and the obscurity of the time and place make it really compelling. I love these shadowy corners of history, and if your looking for suggestions I would suggest the Greece-Batracian and Indo-Greek kingdoms. They were rump states left behind in Afghanistan and Pakistan after Alexander the greats successors lost control of Persia. They were pushed out of that area by the Kushans, but survived by moving into India and their king even converted to Buddhism.

    The Khazar Khaganate were Turkic people that near the end of its life for strategy reasons (not belonging to Byzantine or the Muslim Arabs) decided only thin up echelon to convert to the other religions that are not neither Muslim nor Christian (Judaism).
    So Khazars were not originally Jewish, after being conquested they continued to be what was before, never incorporated into the Jewish genome sadly.
    So it should be considered part of Turkic people history with a pinch of coolness.

      joseph adel. I'm not trolling rather seriously asking a question that I've always wondered. In the BIBLE Jesus says he is GOD many times in many ways including stating " I am the way, the truth, and the light. THERE IS NO WAY to the father but through ME." So here's my question. How can a "prophet" who claims to be the Messiah be respected and not considered a false prophet to those who don't believe him (ie Muslims)?

    • @gregoryharris688
      @gregoryharris688 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      joseph adel. To be clear I am not a Christian, I am a Hebrew Israelite by blood, not religion. I don't believe in any religion. I was raised in the Christian church, but I now see that it is rooted paganism and capitalism and has perverted the message of the holy scriptures given to Isreal. And to your point. I think Christians and other religious non Muslims feel that Muhammed is a false prophet (I know I do). I never hear them respecting him as a prophet, at the same time not believing his claims. That dynamic baffles the mind. You are either ordained of GOD and therefore speak exclusively the truth, or you are a false prophet. There is no in between. But when Muslims speak about Jesus (Yahawa) I hear great respect for the admitted prophet though they reject his claims. I think part of the problem is that most Muslims are not aware of Jesus' biblical teachings first hand, only cutting the few quotes that are popular in the Muslim church, therefore they don't know about the parts of his message that are in direct contradiction with the teachings of Muhammed. Jesus says: "I am the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. NO MAN (including the prophet Muhammed himself) can reach the father but through ME." The belief of their messages can't coexist in the same person.

    • @TomYawns

    Just because their leader or the nobility class is Jewish, doesn't means that they all Jews. It's like not all Goths were Christians or not all Turks were Islam just because their leaders converted into these religions. James Wells That is a less popular theory on the creation of Rus, from my understanding though thats mainly been regarded as a frabication invented by the soviet union who did not want to be associated with the turkic people they controlled in central asia and tartaria. This was after major archeological discoveries were made by Soviet Turkologists in the 1930s showing heavy early Khazar infleunce on slavs. Also the Rus (early slavic states) though often ruled by "vikings" (norseman such as Rurik) developed as indo-european tribes in eastern europe.

    • @jameswells554
      @jameswells554 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Neglected History that's as may be, however; the heavy influence of Balts, northern Slavs, as well as the roots of all Russian culture stem from the Ki'ivan Rus. Who while interbreeding with peoples from the steppe, maintained a northern pantheon of gods as well as maintaining purity of bloodlines for their nobility, and wealthier class. Remember the terms Slav and slave share a root. You still have a separation in Russia between those who are Great Russian, and those who are not.

      James Wells Yes as I showed in this video Kiev quickly became slavicized and you are correct about the infleunce of the later kievan rus'. Also the slav-slave link is only in old french and english. Though that's commonly accepted it is still very controversial and many argue the word has a different origin. In these early days of slav society it is though before Rurik came from scandinavia there was a slavic state based on the neighboring Turkic government known as the Rus' Khaganate

    There are simply Mongolian (Tatars)
    In other hand, Europeans was a first abstract mindset peoples in the World and this is a reason why Khazar's did and will do everything, to conquer Europe and mix genome with them. Why Khazar's now look similar to Europeans not Mongolians?
    Over thousand of years they fight Eastern Europe, not only killed the Slavic tribes but also they took them captive. From very beggining of time, they kidnapped children and raped Slavic women, make genome changed. "BD Davis laments that the ‘‘Tartars and other Black Sea peoples had sold millions of Ukrainians, Georgians, Caucassians, Armenians, Bulgarians, Slavs even Turks’’ which received little notice. Only Crimean Tatars enslaved and sold some 1,750,000 Ukrainians, Poles and Russian only between 1468 and 1694.
    Today Khasar's have more experience in robbery of other Nations, because it is a knowledge of generations.

      +kovanecky Yours was quite the synoptic read. A couple more things to help yours truly connect the dotts if you don't mind-- 1. How do these _Tatars_ correlate to _Ashkenazic Jews,_ other than their commonality of being Turkic converts to Judaism? Are they one and the same or past competing groups?
      2. Would it be reasonable to describe _Larry Silverstein_ for instance as a Europeanized Tatar, or _bibi_ let's say as a Khazarian-Judaeic convert with no ties to the biblical Jews or Patriarchs?
      I find it quite testing to pin-point the true identity regarding 70-80% of worldwide Jewry that are the Ashkenazim.

      The Khazars was rightly seen as this huge and rich empire in steppe with millions of people,it reigned the Eurasian region for centuries with stability and unity of both Oguz and Kipchak Turks but factually and realistically it was more collection and Union of small independent tribes of both Turks/Iranian/Caucasian and European most of whom were actaully already Nestorian Christian with some native pegan(tengri)and even Muslim belief with very very few actual Jews even after their fall,thier demise came under Stanislav and his successors in the Rus Empire,Under Stanislav orders and his successors many Russian migrated to the frontier Area of Itil/Astarkhan and all along Volga basin,to someone who know Russian history this is like the Russfication of the Ugarit peoples,in large they were assimilated to East Slav Geonome and some run away,there is even a Claim that the early Cossacks were a Slavic version of Khazars Clans(or very were influenced by them)

      ResistCom It seems more like a myth based revision of history,Jews did not partake in any trade in the North plain and steppes of Eurasia(outside very very few individuals and groups)If there any trade route which is even arguably was "dominated" or had disproportionate amount of Jewish merchants it was the Southern route from The Islamic world(Yemen/Syria/Iraq/Iran) to India and Central Asia(Bukhara)all three have relatively big,very well established communities unlike the steppe which really did not have any cities or even that many towns for Jews to even live one the most ultimate evidence comes from China almost all Jews who migrated into China and India came from either Iran or Iraq or Bukhara...

      Because we are only taught "relevant" history from the viewpoint of the state. As Basque I do wonder why did I never learnt almost anything about Basque history. Well, because Spain prefers that we learn Roman, standard pan-European and Spanish history. Knowing the history you are not supposed to know is only for "experts" or most likely self-taught people.
      Turks are outside the European paradigm of history: at most you hear of how "terrible" was Attila, and maybe a side note about Tatars in the context of Mongol or Russian expansion (most likely the latter) and some generic stuff about the Ottoman Empire. Azerbaijan? What's that? The Gokturk Empire? Whatever! What matters for them is Greece (Persia as mere side note), Rome, the Franks, the Holy Roman Empire, the Wars of Religion and the French Revolution (Napoleon included). That's all the history of Europe you are supposed to know about when you leave school, plus official "national" history, of course, and maybe some vague notions about the Paleolithic, the Neolithic and the Metal Ages, nothing too dense.

    I first learned of the Khazar people in the young adult novel *BLACK BIRD, BLUE ROAD,* by Sofiya Pasternack (I checked it out from my local library a few months back), and, speaking as a Jew, I was absolutely dumbfounded to learn that there had once been a Jewish-majority state outside the Holy Land; I always thought my people only ever formed a minority of the population in all of the various countries they settled in.

    • @user-jr4kc6lu9q
      @user-jr4kc6lu9q ปีที่แล้ว

      Sofiya does good writing and research but the population of Khazaria was never majority Jewish. Some of its cities had Greek Jewish and Khazar Jewish inhabitants but even there they were in the minority. That partly explains why so few Jewish artifacts from Khazaria have been found, in comparison to so many pagan and Christian artifacts.

    • @neglectedhistory9747

      Kadir Aksu I may do a video on the oghuz turks at some point but your second question is quite a good one. I saw it asked by turks on a turkic history form and not even they as turks knew. So I did my research and it would turn out the majority of DNA within annatolian turks is actually not turkic within most turks (turkish turks are generally around 15% turkic ethnically despite their turkic language.) In reality Turkey consists of turkicized hellenistic people considering the original turkic minority within annatolia was mainly breed into oblivion. I would say turkmen do look like annatolians though. Regardless a true turk is embracing to all ethnicities as in turkic hordes all that truly matterd was who your allegiance was to. Though I don't know if that means if I live in a yurt on the steppes and practice horse archery I as an American can call myself a turk haha.

    • @KadirAksu28
      @KadirAksu28 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes but You should keep in mind that Scythians (East sides) were also mostly caucasian. Indo Europeans as Tocharians etc aswell. I believe that the Gökturks (the western part) was mainly mixed of East Asian looking and West Asian looking people and ofcourse more migration towards the west meant more intermarriages especially within the males. I myself asked my Grandfathers if he knew anything, if we had intermarriages between the pontic Greeks( Since I'm from the North where alot of pontic Greeks were) He said that that didn't happen, I myself do look more Southern European with some smaller eyes. Which I don't understand. I'm sure if I'd did a dna test majority of my DNA would be Caucasus. I do think that the Gökturks himself were also none homegenous people. I mean even the first Ottoman ruler Osman was more European looking then East-Asians. Also Uyghur have alot of European looking admixtures. There are even mummies that dates back to the 3800 B.C. 'The Tamir Basin Mummies' or 'The Sleeping Loulan' that are more European looking that the typical East-Asian. I firmly believe that we were mixed from the Gökturk period. I mean The European Huns had also mixing of peoples. Shortly mixtures of European looking and East-Asian looking people formed the Turks and the West was more European looking then the East. Ofcourse there was also the Mongol Raid that also ocurred which made drastic population changes too. Also I believe that the mixed peoples of the Central-Asians (West Gökturs) mixing with the Iranian, Middle-Easterners and Anatolians also porbably happend. Since Males having intermarriages probably occured especially in the Nobility.
      Love your videos btw keep it up!
