I just tried out your method and absolutely love the look! It really has less of a curly look and more of an effortless-messy look, which is more of what I prefer. I've been growing out my hair and lately have been feeling blah about my hair. I just have not found any wavy style that looked right until I followed your tutorial. Thanks for this awesome look!
Just cut my hair to about your length. And i have always loved a beachy wave, messy, textured look, but can quite master it. I get curls, but not waves. I guess I will have to invest in some texture sprays and dry shampoo. Great job in explaining how to do this. You are thorough. I haven't found many tutorials that explain to how to things in steps with your hair. So I will invest in some hair products and get to work. Thank you.

Man. I have been watching youtube videos on this exact curling style for YEARS. At least 5 years... and have never been able to achieve this hair style. I finally know why. I have layers! All of this style of curls require either long layers, or no layers. Doy. I'm so silly. I always wondered why it never looked good... o_O
I have layers in the back of my lob and I still do this. You just have to be extra careful not to burn your fingers with the shorter pieces, but it definitely works. It took me quite a bit of practice, but it can be done! :) This video helped a lot.
Include the upper layers with the lower and make a continuous curl but you need one with the prong. You work the curl from top to bottom but not the end.

I am having a really hard time getting this look because I have to straighten my hair before. It's all frizzy and gross if not. I have tried to do the beach wave with the flat iron after straightening and it doesn't work as well as a regular curling iron. Nothing holds or even really curls. Will the wand be better? Is it even possible to get this look if you have to straighten before curling?
So pretty! I have about the same length hair and you so I know this will work for me. It's so hard to relate to a lot of youtubers who have that super long, 16" extension filled hair. I'm going to try this tomorrow! :)

layers actually help with a more texturized look! if you google textured lob or something like that, youll see some even have short layers

Long layers are the way to go. Grow out those shorter layers. They give a weird texture to the hair, always.
