"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
    “Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on TH-cam. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on TH-cam, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

@adia5752 Well only one country have pillaged the other's territory for about 70 years give or take. I don't say that Palestinians are innocent, but in comparison they have the right to fight their occupiers where as the other have no right to maintain the occupation, that is if international laws have any legitimacy. Annexing territory and pillaging, razing and stealing civilians homes also falls within this framework. I would feel very different about things if these people would had facilitated the two-state solution instead of building settlements undermining the whole peace process.
The most crucial aspect of everything is really our support(the Wests) for the whole thing since it undermines everything we have built since WW2... even if we don't expect countries like for example China and Russia to respect international laws, they have no reason to do so if some countries can act as they please without sanctions etc. legal impunity ain't a good thing for anyone of us, all it really benefits is one little upstart nation.

Profound, maybe. Mathematically accurate, no. Also known as a fabrication or hyperbole. Israel has killed 39000 Palestinians (give or take) in ~144 days. That's ~200 dead per day or 1/6 of Oct 7th per day.
So, tragedy upon tragedy but not Oct 7-level tragedy upon Oct 7-level tragedy. It does add up to about 25 or so Oct 7ths altogether though.

      @sherifmahmoud7703 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@MrBrock314 Mathematical accuracy is important. But it is never a good idea to compare atrocities. They are all wrong. If you factor in that most of the casualties on one side are women and children, water & food blockade for ~144 days, >70% of civilian structures destroyed (including most homes, and all hospitals, schools, and places of worship), and soldiers posting videos of themselves looting or using civilian dwellings, you enter war crime territory. Under international law, foreign military occupation forces are held to a higher standard than militants from their occupied subjects. Starving civilians, carpet bombing them, collectively punishing them, releasing government statements encouraging their forced displacement or dehumanizing them (e.g., calling them human animals) are all actions that the international community criminalized after the world wars and the era of European colonialism. We're going back in time if we try to justify war crimes against an occupied population at that scale. And as Americans, we should never finance war crimes committed at this scale by a foreign state even if they are allies.

People wanted to pull out of Afghanistan because there were no achievable goals and the methods used towards them were abhorrent (like NYT covered about the vets who were disciplined for trying to speak out about). I don't care if it's a US mandate, UN mandate or a mix thereof: the current Israeli and Gazan governments have proven unable to function without resorting to mass violence. A few observations:
    1. Netanyahu is not delusional. Hamas is. This is why. When you benefit from your delusions it is very most likely political strategic thinking geared towards self advantage and highly calculated rather than something out of your own control. When Netanyahu said the mission is only weeks within reach not months he is buying time. Hamas is delusional because their way of thinking is doing massive damage to themselves and their own people. There is nothing strategic and intelligent about this. If they are not acting against their own interest then the bare minimum is they are acting against their own people's interest. Netanyahu is not acting against his interest or his own people's interest. Why? He is winning and the cost on his side is very low at least in the immediate and short term but that's the best you can do as nobody has a crystal ball.
    2. 7:49 "Israel stops bombing, Hamas releases the hostages". Wrong order. Hamas releases the hostages, Israel stops bombing. Hamas surrenders unconditionally, the war ends immediately. Fixed it for ya John!
    3. It is delusional or at the very least a fantasy anyone thinking the government of Israel should be tried for war crimes. Not even Hamas' leaders will be tried for war crimes. The international system including international law is Mickey Mouse law. That's why more often than not states resort to what is called "self-help". Let's be realistic!
    4. It is delusional to call it a genocide. The population of the Gaza Strip is nearly two and a half million people. The Hamas figures for the casualty of what the IDF is doing now, with an impartial observer being very generous accepting such figures, is around 40,000 deaths (made a lot worse by Hamas using civilians as human shields) with a very substantial number of that figure includes the death of Hamas terrorists and their accomplices. Israel is doing a very bad job if that is their attempt at genocide. Everyone knows they can do a much better job if they want to but the willingness to be genocidal is not there (i.e wiping out all Gazans or at the very least to kill as many as humanly possible). That ratio, while on its own is horrific, relative to other major conflicts in the past such as WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, Iraq War etc. the human toll in Gaza in terms of ratio to the entire population and military targets struck is less terrifying. If Hamas releases all hostages as well as unconditionally surrenders and then Israel continues the bombings and killings of innocent civilians then that would be a much much better argument for genocide.
    5. The parallels with the war in Ukraine is misguided if not foolish. Ukraine is a war between two sovereign nations members of the UN. You can negotiate to end this war. Hamas is not a nation let alone a sovereign one. It is a terror organisation and October 7 made it conclusive. It is also not simply a terror network like the IRA where the British government negotiated with. Hamas is a religious terror network in the same vein as ISIS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram etc. This means you cannot negotiate with Hamas as any political pundit knows negotiating with terror organisations give them political legitimacy. At the bare minimum you cannot formally negotiate with them even if the inevitable hypocrisy in politics mean you can or may have to do so informally behind closed doors. The bombings give Israel in this type of negotiations leverage such as they'll say "we will stop bombing but you gotta release all hostages" or else there are no bargaining chips to play on the negotiating table.
    6. Hamas is a religious terror network that means it's political aspirations are intertwined with religious motives. The ostenstible political aspirations may be territorial but its inevitable religious motives like any other religious organisations are global as mandated by their sacred texts. Either Israel do the dirty work now dealing and eradicating them or the West and the rest of the world would have to do so later in the future if this malignant tumor is not removed now.
    7. October 7 atrocities were unique in its barbarity as no civlised power would commit such atrocities in that manner. They were planned, highly calculated as well as executed with intentionally sadistic horrifying deeply personal evil of the medieval type. Not your average collateral civilians death in any conventional war or armed conflict. What was done to defenceless babies, children, women, the elderly and the like such as genital and private parts mutilation, beheadings, rape in front of loved ones, burnings of people alive, necrophilia, the taking of hostages of children, women and the elderly etc are proof of a wicked enemy of a particular religious type.
    8. They hate us anyway regardless of what Israel or the West does or doesn't do. So why bother being nice without very significant trade offs such as the release of all the hostages and unconditional surrender. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. Only those with delusions think being nice to them means them being nice to us. That was the mindset of the Jimmy Carter administration and Carter was taken for granted and taken for a ride.

Hamas is evil, pathetic inhumane and demonic, but you seem to suggesting that IDF can push upto 99% of what Hamas is doing and are self-righteous defenders of their people. Isreal has every right to defend itself from Hamas but that does not mean they get a free pass to conduct destruction on Palestinians. Their response doesn't make them any less vile than Hamas. Hamas is a fundamentalist terrorist group they cause destruction and should be stopped, everybody can also agree on this, but Isreal is a sovereign "democratic" country they are expected to act rationally and morally with care for human life what they're doing is not close to the best possible response. Isreal has failed to destroy Hamas or even considerably deal any damage that too with shockingly high "collateral damage". The disregard to life of Palestinians leads to people calling it a genocide. If they hold human shields and you shoot at them indiscriminately how does that make you any better than them shooting at civilian Israelis. Where do draw the line? Do you want to match your attack to that of a terrorist group?
Just like Israeli children died at the hands of Hamas, Palestinian children have died at the hands of IDF.
The main problem with how Israel is grossly responding itself and the justifications for the said response not with the right of Israel to defend itself. Most people cry for Israeli as well as Palestinian children, women, men and elderly who have been claimed as collateral damage for this war which isn't yielding any good. You can read all the comments here, except for a negligible retard few, are sympathizing for Palestinians and NOT Hamas.
Israeli lives matter, similarly Palestinian lives matter. Hamas does not have a reason or right to hurt civilians, similarly neither does Isreal.

@stephanmoris2515 I didn't hear a solution, I heard another condemnation of Israel and the US should isolate them. He also misunderstands loac, every member of hamas who operates around civilization clears Israel of War crimes, while also making themselves guilty of them, so there would be far more hamas being charged.
