    Hahaha "what does this have to do with my robot? almost nothing but it sure is cool" Thats how you know you have a good robot name!

      Well maybe you could say that his robot is like a wedge and once the opponent gets on his back he transforms to a flipper and sends them flying? I don't know lol hahaha

      Exactly. What does my horizontal spinner have to do with "Cheesecake"? Umm... well, sometimes you can get Oreo cheesecake, and it's like.... kind of the same colors I guess.... lol.

    Great little robot. Now that you've mentioned the origins of the name, I actually think that it's quite fitting (while being cool of course):
    I can imagine opponents first looking at Kelpie and thinking "Okay, fighting a lifter. He might get under me a few times, but I should be able to wear him down with some continuous attacks. As long as I don't get near a pit, I've got a shot". So Kelpie "lures" other robots in, unaware of its true nature.
    Then BAM! It turns out that this tiny thing is a bona fide full pressure flipper, and can launch its opponents Oota. It sinks others just as the beast does to its riders.

    1. How much do the full air tanks weigh? (As in full of air)
    2. I didn’t know you were on Kilobots.
    3. Can you make a build tutorial for a beetle pneumatic flipper (buffer tank included)? (If this isn’t one.)
    4. Dying against The Butcher (Kilobots) is completely understandable. That thing’s deadly.
    5. Can you make event reports of Kilobots and the other competition?

    • @TeamSmallRobots
      @TeamSmallRobots  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      1. A full 20g co2 cartridge weighs about 2.5 oz
      2. Yup! It was Kelpie's first event there
      3. A full pressure co2 system is too expensive, dangerous, and complex to be worth making a tutorial video. Buuuuuuuuuut, I do plan on making a beginner-level pneumatics tutorial for an antweight
      4. Yes it's very scary! Hence the reason I spent most of the match hiding behind hazards.
      5. Possibly. I have a large backlog of event reports I'd like to catch up on. The biggest non-kelpie updates would be my featherweight Morag which I still need to make a video on as well as the new version of Highlander that's now 3d-printed and took 2nd place at GearJam!

      Out of curiosity, what is Morag’s design based on? Apollo, Eruption, Bronco, or Hydra?
      Edit: You might want to add some ARMor.

    • @TeamSmallRobots
      @TeamSmallRobots  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Lumakid100 None of the above :P (Especially not Hydra since it didn't exist at the time I built Morag). The biggest inspiration for it would probably be Rocket (Lightweight) and Polaris (Featherweight). As well as taking what worked for Highlander and scaling it up.

      @@TeamSmallRobots Did you ever publish your antweight pneumatic tutorial? I don't use Facebook and never will (never say never, but... never.), so if it is there, I might have to beg someone I know who uses it.

  • @Combatechist
    @Combatechist 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Title's a bit misleading as different weight classes have different full pressures. There was a robot called Anticide from the UK which weighed 150 grams and could operate at 190psi (the maximum allowable in UK ant weight competitions is 100psi). The heavyweights used to be limited to 1000psi but that might have changed in recent years. I'm impressed regardless.

    • @TeamSmallRobots
      @TeamSmallRobots  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nothing misleading about the title. Anticide is not a full pressure co2 flipper. It isn't even a co2 flipper.

    • @iamionscat9035
      @iamionscat9035 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeamSmallRobots Correct! If anyone thinks TSR (LOVE the homage to the creators of D&D) isn't telling the truth, you should look up Anticide's publicly published stats, you don't even need to ask Andrew (Anticide's builder) about it. Anticide uses a CO2 cartridge, but Andrew uses compressed air (from an air compressor he brings to events with him) to charge it. I love Anticide, I love 150g bots. I think Kelpie is awesome!

      Maybe one year on I have an opportunity to learn.
      It doesn't mention CO2 in the title, so I presume the definition of pull-pressure implies the use of CO2.
      My understanding was that the definition of full pressure was using the maximum pressure allowed by the rules in the container directly - rather than through a regulator.
      What is the definition?

    • @TeamSmallRobots
      @TeamSmallRobots  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Combatechist Good point. I've updated the title to include "co2" in the name.

    Sorry if a dumb question, do the pneumatic parts screw together with standard fittings or do you have to modify them to make them fit together airtight?

    • @TeamSmallRobots
      @TeamSmallRobots  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Any NPT fittings need to be wrapped with PTFE tape or else they'll leak. And make sure they'll rated for the pressure you're using so that nothing explodes in your face :)

      It is a Nitrous Purge Solenoid. We were running a Nitrous Solenoid at Motorama and gave him the idea. I never would have guessed he would have put it in a 3lb bot though - pretty neat. :-)

    • @TeamSmallRobots
      @TeamSmallRobots  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea was inspired by Flange. I asked around on the FRA forum back in 2018 what Flange used. It is indeed a nitrous valve.

  • @olisk-jy9rz

    This is NOT "the world's smallest full pressure flipper". There are fully functional 150 gr. full pressure flippers. Well before this one.

    • @TeamSmallRobots
      @TeamSmallRobots  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry for the late reply. When I say "full pressure", I'm referring to unregulated co2 straight out of a cartridge at ~800psi. Pneumatic bots like Anticide do not run unregulated co2 systems, they use low pressure air.
