Re: my 2013 3.5L Ford Edge; Im using Ford parts to avoid doing this again soon. My original alternator lasted +300K kilometres. I installed a new Ford alternator. Also while I had this tore down, replaced tensioner and serpentine belt with Ford OEM parts. Not much point in having the tensioner (it was also original) fail in a couple months.

Pliers on the top of the tensioner is the easiest way to release the belt just a fyi...tensioner tool is a joke
