I get a warm feeling when I see a bottle in the video and I say to myself "I tasted that one with Roy!" (especially the Rosebank and Green Spot Leoville Barton).
I just watched your video from 2018 on the new colossus that is the Macallan distillery. I have watched all of your Recycled Reviews and have tried to recall if any of those empties was a Macallan. I honestly can't recall one bottle. I find that quite telling. I'm not in any hurry to replace the Macallan that I do have, and considering the scale of their operation, I don't think they would much care.
This is a freaking cool concept man. Not often you see an innovative concept in the review world. Honestly I don't often get the time to watch whisky review videos any more. This is going on the regular list! It was a pleasure to be able to hang out with you at the bastards ball too mate!
Last Deanston I tried was surprisingly totally brilliant. Was a bit sad to hear the Arran Amarone wasn't so flash but I too find these wine cask finishes sometimes all over the place. Fun reviews Roy keep up the excellent work!
With you on the Glendronach. Many seem to slate it for not being as good as the old 15 - I thought it was a great example of a rich and easy drinking sherry bomb with some classic leather and fruity spice notes.
Loved the opening shot from the bottom of the Bin!! Regarding Basil Hayden, I have never had it, but I do enjoy Old Grand-dad BiB which is a higher ABV and a lower price at least hear in the States. I am sorry to hear Glengoyne are discontinuing the 15 yr. I enjoyed it. I have the Cask Strength Batch 6 on my shelf at present. Bliadhna Mhath Ùr/HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Mike
I'm really enjoying your videos and just subscribed. I really like your concept of "hook", never heard that from Ralfy. It makes so much sense - for some people it's likely sweetness or oakiness, for others - peat and so forth. It really adds to trying to describe smell and taste with words (an ultimately impossible task). Thank you.
These videos are the best! I don't even really drink these whiskies but I still watch these reviews! And yes, I'm including the Basil Hayden. 80 proof is just too weak, BUT where did you find an 8 year age stated bottle? Haven't seen one of those in our area in 5 or 6 years!
It's great to have you back! I always enjoy your take on some whiskies that I know, and others that I have not tried... I'll be on the hunt for that Green Spot Chateau Montelena... I imagine it will be as hard to get as the Chateau Leoville Barton, which I saw only once or twice, and bought the first time I found it!
Would love a Chateau Green Spot just for the higher ABV, I feel like the regular Green is let down a bit by the 40%. Also, feel exactly the same on the Laddie - nearing the end of my first bottle and will probably get a different Bruichladdich just to 'see' more of the distillery. Love these reviews!
The Chateaux Montelena is nice stuff. Really gets much better with time. I do find a lot of Arran pretty hot in general. Love the grapey note I get from the new Revival. Solid stuff. Great video Roy. Cheers.
Hi Roy - I like your style and you complement Ralfy perfectly! DYC whisky?!! Sales might flounder in NZ as it stands for Dominion Yeast Company, for generations the most reached-for malt vinegar for pickling onions, gherkins and a variety of vinegary condiments!
Good stuff Roy. I agree about the cognac casked PC - very difficult to approach when the bottle is just opened but gets much better and fruitier as you go down.
Good to see you back from holiday Roy, tried to catch as much of the V-Pub last Thursday. Always fun to get some quick reviews on the recycled reviews on bottles I've been looking at but are unsure of pulling the trigger. Cheers!
Welcome back brother! These reviews are super useful and I appreciate them and the channel. I completely agree on the Classic Laddie. Exactly as I would score it!
I just finished my bottle of Arran Amarone last night. I love Arran 10 and the 14 is one of my top 3 favourite whiskies so I kept hoping I'd discover something I'd been missing in the Amarone. Sorry to say, I never did. Like Roy says, it's hot and the wine finish just doesn't quite work. I've got an unopened bottle od their sauternes cask (bought because I really like Glenmorangie's) so I'm hoping for better things from that.
Great to see you back Roy. Made me very happy to get the phone alert for RR#9. Shame I spent all my money in Campbeltown recently, otherwise I’d be buying some of these! Off to watch vPub on catch-up. Cheers! Oh, and HEELS PLEASE!
Just found your channel and it's fantastic Roy. Binged watched all your videos over the weekend. I need your help and advice though. What are your suggestions for getting deeper into whisky? I like a whisky as such but want to start getting into it more. I've tried all the types like a Speyside, Lowland, Highland, Islay etc.... and know they taste different but I can never describe what I get on the nose or palate. I hear you talk about things and just have no idea how you pick them up. The other night for example I bought a 3 miniature set of Glenfiddich. I poured them all and left for a bit to open up and then tasted the 3 of them. They were the bog standard 12 year old, the 15 year old and the 18 year old. Whilst I agree that they all smelled different and tasted different I couldn't really pick out individual notes like apple etc... that you pick out in your reviews. It's frustrating the life out of me as all I can get is a whisky nose and taste. Hope you can give me some help and advice on my journey.
Practice. Seriously, find big flavours and "hooks" to begin with - sherry matured brings dried fruits and spice, enjoy the smoke of a peated whisky and the sweet vanilla, coconut and honey from bourbon casks. Try to brainstorm what you're tasting, nothing is wrong, you'll get better in time. Download a whisky flavour wheel to help prompt you and don't feel weird about it, in time things start to appear, and as you isolate and label them you build a library that you can refine over time. Enjoy it & Good luck!
LOL ..... I'm guessing they're out looking because you usually hear a single crash when a neighbour puts out the recycling not a series of 15 crashes in 10 minutes. "Hey Angus! That bampot next door is out in the rain filming heself smashing whisky bottles again."
Ahh Roy, always really enjoy the Recycled Reviews. In a way a definite review of a whisky by you, not just the first/second sip counts as we so often see. As for the CC series: .CC:01 Cognac Cask; MRC:01 (Bordeaux) Mouton Rothschild Casks; MC:01 Marsala Casks. And then some distillery only Valinchs in 0,5 l bottles : CSC:01, MNC:01, MOC:01; PAC:01, SHC:01, SYS:01, VOC:01. Bruichladdich sure loves its abbreviations, most importantly keep the end "C" for cask or else people might think different. ;-)
Roy...Roy...Roy. These videos just get better and BETTER! Whisky aside...the editting quality on this is amazing. Should be a series on Netflix. Your spreadsheet and the weather forecast are the only 2 things that remain open on my Google search at ALL times. Kudos my friend. Keep up the good work. Oh...and HEELS PLEASE! 😁🥃
I’m amazed to see you talk about DYC! A respectable 7.5! I’ll need to grab on when I’m over this month, might be even cheaper if I can find it in the Cash & Carry. Another great video! 🥃 Heels Please.
Love these recycled reviews Roy! I tend to review my whiskies for personal use and i think i'll have to start doing it at the end of the bottle like you do! HEELS PLEASE!
A new month, a new season of the year, and a new recycled video. The world is in order. Many thanks, Roy, for the tip to try the Teaninich 10 F&F. I'll give that a go sometime soon. And respect for your independent opinion of the new GlenDronach 15, which many purists have turned up their noses at. As you say, it's a new whisky - a genuine 15yo with a new cask composition - so it deserves to be evaluated as such, rather than compared endlessly with a dram which has been discontinued for almost 4 years now. Oh, before I go, Palo Cortado casks - have you tried the new Arran 12yo Master of Distilling II with a Palo Cortado finish? I'm enjoying it with a teaspoon of water. Cheers!
after hearing all your rave reviews about deanston i decided to buy one myself. so i got the Virgin Oak nas one; got to say it had potential but it wasn't floating my boat on the first dram. so i let it sit a week after emptying it. tried it again and it got better and then i decided why not add a few drops of water and then wham! on the money..the water toned down the bright pepper notes and brought out the sweet fruits..now i see why you love the juice..
Unfortunately for me the F&F Rosebank wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I initially tried it in a pub and put it down to the Guinness that ruined it however when we went to the Whisky Social we also tried it there. I still didn't find much joy with it maybe my palate will warm up to it down the line. The Daftmill Winter Release is amazing and I was lucky enough to get a sample of it from Francis, eternally grateful for that. Deanston is something I need to explore more. I have had the Bordeaux cask one but other than that, I am pretty new to Deanston. What should I try? Cheers Roy, always love these.
Hi,as allways great recycling reviews, interesting and good information. I have got a bottle of glendronach 15 that i bought in 2014 in my cellar still closed and standing around and yes glengoyne 15 is a damn good whisky. Love the music as well 👍
Love the recycled reviews! Short and sharp and to the point. I've noticed you've never thrown away an Ardbeg 10. Just wondering what your thoughts on it are in relation to other Islay's for the price?
Seriously drooling over those Deanston and Flora & Fauna! Sadly unavailable here in Argentina . Hoping soon I'll catch one of those! In the meantime... HEELS PLEASE! 😉 Love all your reviews Roy! Gracias!!! Salud!

But as long as what they put out is good that's all that really matters. Oh and Heels Please! Cheers, Chris.
A welcome treat for my Saturday night! Spot on with basil hayden. It's a good introduction to bourbon, but at the price point, there are much better bourbons to move on to.

Roy, i really advise u to try the arran master distiller special edition 2 (mactaggert). Its also been finished in palo cartado casks, and i found that one funky and delitious to. Im already restocking it
Great bonus to see this popping up on a Saturday night 👍. And really glad to see a bit of love for Teaninich - one of the really underrated highland malts. Oh, and HEELS PLEASE 😉
Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton will be delivered to my house tomorrow (fingers crossed) and I'm really exited, since I already love the hell out of the 40%abv-version. Roy just made my mouth water even more, thanx for that! :)
HEELS PLEASE . Another great review Roy, down to my last Glengoyne 15 ... not panicking as suspect it (~14-16) will be back at some point as the 12 to 18 too big a price jump in the marketplace and it was that bit different as you say (although doesn't stop me buying them 😂😂😂)
Haha! Love the ending. You should’ve recorded your neighbors faces 😂 I agree 100% with the Basil Hayden score. I love bourbon. But that stuff is ok at best. Glad to see you back!
Heels Please! Another great episode Roy. Lol my neighbors wonder what I’m doing too. Now they know and don’t think I’m weird anymore. If anything I’ve been getting them involved. Cheers 🥃
Heels Please! I can see Teaninich and Dalmore from my ship now. I saw the basket and knew there was some F&F in there. The Rosebank was a surprise! I had some in June this year, and it was lovely.
Thank you Roy! This is my highlight of all the whisky videos I watch. You and your videos have helped me so much in my journey of finding a solid list of my favorites. Both save and spend money but more save for sure. Unfortunately my taste palate hasn’t yet evolved enough for me to chose non Peated scotch I reckon it’s only a matter of tasting new whiskys and compounded with time. At my local bottle shop have been making single cask selection in partnership with signatory and putting out some real cracking Caol ila aged 7,8 and 9 years old. So punchy and full of life. Curious if you’ve run across young cask strength Caol ila?
I wish I could find the Benromach imperial strength... That's a tough one to dig up around here, and they usually command a steep premium over the standard 10... P.S. love these recycled reviews btw. One of my favorite formats out there for whisky reviews.
Great stuff as usual..love watching these and always enjoy what you put together roy..just quickly the last vpub before you went to Spain i said about maybe trying some Spanish brandy.how did you find it if you managed to try any.cheers and all the best.pete
Great vid, as usual I'm jealous of the distillery exclusive stuff and all that haha... and though normally I wouldn't bother... since I'll be seeing you in a couple months... heels please! ;)
Good to have you back (in RR and V-pub) ... For me (what's in the name :-)) the CC01 really was the cracker of the show, though I have to say that I've not tasted the hole lot. Heels please.
I get a warm feeling when I see a bottle in the video and I say to myself "I tasted that one with Roy!" (especially the Rosebank and Green Spot Leoville Barton).
I've had the Green Spot Chateau Montelena and it's fantastic.

Agree with you Roty, Daftmill is a wonderful drop. Shame about all the silliness surrounding it. It just gets in the way of some serious enjoyment.
I think these reviews are the best on TH-cam. Totally honest, sincere and not pretentious in the slightest. And while I'm here, Heels Please!
These are the best videos on TH-cam 🙌🥃👍
Very nice review I enjoying all your reviews thank you
Always love watching these Vlogs.. Thanks Roy.

Good see recycled reviews back!! I have a soft spot for those wine cask finished Bruichladdich bottlings (when they work). HEELS PLEASE
oh hell ya. Roy’s recycle reviews are the best! I agree with you on the Glengoyne 15. I didn’t know it was going OOP. I snapped up three bottles for US $55 each. thank you Roy.
Another informative and entertaining review Roy. Well done!

Great reviews, Roy! I totally agree with your experience of Basil Hayden. Will you be in Texas this October? Hope to see you again.
Recycled Reviews are always a must-watch. Cheers Roy!
Great vid, as usual I'm jealous of the distillery exclusive stuff and all that haha... and though normally I wouldn't bother... since I'll be seeing you in a couple months... heels please! ;)
Did ya spot the dedication my friend? 19:48
@@Aqvavitae I managed to miss that the first time around hahaha. That'll teach me to multitask during credits! ty kind sir!
Brad Leclerc No. Thank you. Seriously 🙏
Good to have you back (in RR and V-pub) ... For me (what's in the name :-)) the CC01 really was the cracker of the show, though I have to say that I've not tasted the hole lot. Heels please.
Always looking forward to a new Recycled reviews! It inspires me for my whisky purchase.
Heels please.
Great review, heels please. Dont knock the rain to much, after all it's one of the magic 3 😁
Heels please. Hope I'm not too late. Enjoyed the review and the ending. Cheers, Roy!
Why do you have four bins?
