what about just changing the termal pad with a custom paste like mx-4 and closing back up? And for running light games you probably need to reinstall 64bit windows with modern intel hd graphics drivers (preferably debloat it to equal out the ram usage with stock 32bit install). great video nevertheless
Any luck reducing the heat? I find mine gets thermal throttled around 75 degrees. Looking for solution reduce the heat without voiding the compact featur .
I think i have the same compute stick, might be a later revision. It does 1080p fine, or at least it did, you know how things get as they continually change youtube. I want to tear mine apart, but I can't seem to figure out how. Edit: and the whole reason I clicked on your video was to see how to do it, and you let me down, lol.
I actually have a newer generation with 4gb ram I use for streaming. I'm just purchased one of these to drive the touchscreen on my RV network/server rack. Being usb its low power and I'll be using ubuntu it will be more than sufficient to drive a web browser to my home assistant. I am also considering using one of these as the head of my home assistant being they are super low power and I'm on solar.
Did you have the BIOS set to performance from balanced and use a powered USB hub (as performance only works with that) with a Ethernet RJ45 and turn off Bluetooth and wifi in the BIOS? I have one of these and the internal soldered memory disk is broken with bad sectors and think the wi-fi gave up first - So I use it now for for Kali and Ubuntu live from USB under ventoy USB ISO boot loader
I laughed out loud when you put that heatsink on xD

also installing linux would be even more useful, in fact there is a ubuntu preinstalled version of this but with 1gb of ram, should make it hang less

I used a spudger. You can use a thin guitar pick. It came apart pretty easy and was held together by plastic clips. Sorry to let you down bud!
@@NevsTechBits - Thanks :-P It was just funny because as I was typing the comment the part in the video came up where you had already opened it :-P

I have this in the ubuntu version and I recently installed raspberry pi os gnome version on a sd card and it runs better then ever
Upgrading the wifi would have been worth exploring too by plugging a newer USB wlan adapter into an externally powered splitter.
These sticks would be so much better if only they came with at least 8GB of RAM.
They do have an 8 GB ram version
@@ProsperousHobo It's made by a 3rd party. The official ones topped out at 4gb.
Crazy. 👑⌚
it's funny i tried this same thing in 2017 with a z3735f tablet with the same heatsink from dell workstation from ubisoft lol
Shame they don't make stuff like this anymore
Got a generic nview? model - it took a while to get from Windows10 - 2015 build to 21H2 (yes it got there). Of course these will NOT go to Windows 11.
The most powerful game this can play is PS2 games
