Continuing from the previous article, the second article reports on a trip from Akaogi Coast in the north-east of Amami Oshima to Kouniya, a town in the south-west of the island.
Akaogi Village is surrounded by different seas to the north and south, with Akaogi Beach facing the East China Sea to the north and Villa Beach and Kaminoko Beach facing the Pacific Ocean to the south, and although they are only about 1 km apart in a straight line, they each have their own distinct character.
Koniya, a town in the south-west of Amami Oshima, belongs to Setouchi Town in Oshima County and is the second largest city on the island. From Koniya Port, a key transport hub that also connects to Okinawa and the Kagoshima mainland, it is possible to access the smaller secondary islands of the Amami region, such as Kakaroma Island, Yorojima Island and Kitejima Island.
