    I have been enjoying watching you renovate the ancient British sports cars.
    I was around in the sixties…!!
    And it was said of the AH 3000, that the life expectancy of the car and the driver was eighteen months…!!
    I’m pleased that there were a few careful people and that some of the cars also still survive…!!

    I love your Healey! I have two TR6’s, and have recently started restoring a TR3B. My first TR6 I purcaced in 1975 and put 200k on it while it was my primary car until 1996. The Healeys, Triumphs, MGs, and even Jags are tough cars if routinely maintained. Keep the English stuff coming!
    If any of you other subscribers haven’t driven one, you should. Your fun meter will top out!

    Those are valuable cars, and great road vehicles. Multi-carb cars do take longer to tune, the vacuum meter is key. Thanks for the demo.

    Hi Steve . These are my favourite shows . I'd nearly forgotten this 3000 and it is rare. Probably because no one could tune triple SU's properly ! It sounds sweet ! Well, have a peaceful Christmas and a very productive 2021. Take care and stay safe.

      my bro had one, worked his butt off to get it running at 16...everytime he drove it anywhere he got pulled over as cops thought he stole it. It was CA and years back. He finally got sick of it and traded it for a volvo...sad, he should have kept it. But youth doesn't know what they have 'til it is gone. I loved riding in that car.

    Had this exact car in 1963-64. I had a lot of fun in Key West, but it was not so great in CT winters.

    I remember driving one of those with a ford small block 260, almost a cobra. Lighter engine more power and more fun, those were the days in Ashburnham

    Great video, I remember that my dad and raced against them, we raced 66 Datsun 1600 Roadster.id almost trade my 2010 XC60 T6 R-Design for that car. Good to see it running again.

    While living in Naple, Italy I drove a Dino with triple duel webers. I took it to Ferrari to get the carbs adjusted. The tuner used just a hose and set them by listening.

    For many years in the 1970s an Adelaide South Australia Car dealership on Port Road used to have a Mini ute on the roof. I think the business was Newport Motors. Often wondered what became of it. Would have been great to get hold of it and fit a 1275 Cooper S motor and running gear. I note the little truck has twin carbs so interesting to know if its a 1275 cc motor or the smaller Mini Cooper motor.
    Looking forward to seeing how the restoration works out. Would look great a British Racing Green with white roof and Mini lite mags.

    Well done - owned, drove, and created a lifetime of adventures in a '62 triple carb when in university. Left it behind when moving on to grad school, but still fondly recall the pleasure of driving it "in the day".

    I love listening to people who know what they're talking about! I owned a 1969 MGB GT many years ago. It had dual SU carburetors; I spent many weekends with my Unisyn gauge getting those carbs in sync and tune. This video really brought back memories! thanks.

    In 1964, while station in the UK, I bought a 1960 Austin Healey 3000 from another serviceman. It was left hand drive model with a modified bonnet (it had louvers). It was painted yellow and black ad was an instant eye turner from everyone who looked upon it, including the locals.

    Thanks for posting this video and great job you did! It was a walk down memory lane for me, I used to work on them way back in 1960’s when I was serving my apprenticeship. For information, in case you were unaware, the pin you use to lift the carburettor dashpot is called a jiggle pin. Thanks again and I look forward to watching more of your postings👍

    One of my favorite cars of all time. A good friend of ours had one of these when I was a child and he would stop by our house to visit and would always give me a ride before he left. I'd love to have one.

      @@johndavey72 Right, they did make smaller ones. My dad had a reliant robin we swapped with a motorbike engine in it man that was fast.
      not seen the 3 carb set up for years.

    Some of These old videos I consider some of the best. But boy is this old and neglected Austin Healey just remarkably complete. I am astounded how good of condition it’s in. Chinese fried rice and all. Puts new meaning in the term takeout. L O LL.

    Make sure the carbs are balanced with a drop test first, then ensure the dashpot is full of the correct oil to the right level. Wind the jet all the way up and then lower it an equal number of turns, usually 2 1/2 turns.
    Use a feeling gauge to set the linkages once you have balanced and synchronized each carb with the others at proper operating temperature.
    Its a lifting pin on the underside of the carb, not a lever. You should only lift it 1/8th inch

    You've done a wonderful job of bringing that old beauty back to life. Just to point out a "wee" issue; looking at the vid at 1:21 & 4:20 all three carb slides appear to be set at different bottom idle stops. The rear one looks like it would be forcing a high idle with the front starving the intake to the front cylinders. My protocol is to back off the three idle setting screws until they're not in the equation at all then undo the linkage clamps to all three to make sure all slides are able to bottom out then start my aligning of slide movement process from there to arrive at a final idle setting for all.

    My 68 MGC (6 cylinder version of the MGB) that I refurbished back in the mid-80's had triple carbs. Couldn't synchronize those carbs without the vacuum tool like he was using. Once I borrowed and used that tool, the engine smoothed right out.

    many years ago, my uncle, the architect, came to visit. He had a light blue metallic 3000. I was just 17 and he threw the keys at me. I drove it about half a mile with the e-brake on. It had the Laycock overdrive. It was just a switch on the dash. It had this smell.... like wet horse hair , oil and leather.

      The triple carb set up is not optimal - the rear carb gets very hot...... twin 2" is better

    Is this the same engine that was full of rice or did you swap it out because I never saw you clean it out.

      It is the same engine, I did not take it out just put the head back on it after rebuilding and cleaning the rice out of it.

    I have a 58 Austin Healey that looks almost exactly like this one. I tune my Dual SUs with a Color Tune Glass spark plug along with a vacuum carburetor synchronizer Tool. Iv never been able to correctly tune my carbs using the lifting the piston method.

      Have your throttle shafts been rebushed? Especially won’t work correctly if you have vacuum leaks.

      @@ThisWeekWithCars Iv rebuilt the carbs using a rebuild kit from Moss Motors. Iv never replaced the shaft bushings. There's probably vacuum leaks at the shafts. The engine runs pretty good after playing with every thing.

    S U Carbs . Fiddly Bastards . But once dialled in they are near as good as EFI . Economy AND Power . Clevis Pin has flogged out on the Bonnet Hinge would be my guess . Or perhaps the Bonnet stay in it's CORRECT place doesn't hold it so far back ?

    I always thought the 3000 was the prettiest car ever made. Not much ground clearance though.
