I love these. This is the AJ6 motor. Very stout motor in all reality, this era had German & Japanese electronics- very, very little Brit. Starting in '90, the R&D money Ford put in started showing up. Check the antenna gasket on the rear quarter. If it's loose or bad, water will leak in & pool there. Alternator should be a Bosch, not exotic. If you want to make it sound more aggressive w/o being typical "Hill Billy" hot rod (I put a SBC in it with headers & glasspacks); XL Performance mufflers and small resonators (those aren't really mufflers in the back)in the rear sounds good & still classy. I know these cars. That hose is for the heater core. It is buried under the intake. Go from below. It is a bit hard to access- there are two sections of hose there. You need to swap all the hoses, WP & t-stat (which is up near the WP up front), & starter since you'll have it out to be safe. S/C, if an Eaton, if it is rattling, the coupler in the nose is bad and the "Fingers" are clattering. Do the bearings & seals

Yes they are, and I have one. With Jags you either get them or you don't and they aren't just about speed, or at least they weren't when William Lyons was around. William Lyons didn't introduce a sports model or a R model. Today there is too much attention to speed and very little attention to uniqueness and beautifull styling, both inside and outside, that Jaguar once excelled in.

Jaguar btw were one of the first car companies to introduce menu driven workshop systems, chap gets his car to work on the ramp and he goes through the tools/parts he needs then follows the menu like a cooking recipe then followed the menu in reverse to put it all back together again. The earliest versions they had a large set of workshop procedure manuals in huge ring binders and followed the repair or service procedure step by step.

Back in the late 80's or early 90's I did exhaust work on Jags that had been converted to Chevy engines . They had Hydramatic transmissions and there was an adapter kit that made it possible to put a small block Chevy engine in the car. Since you have an abundance of small blocks this might be an option.

This is the last of the I6 AJ40 engines after a long run in production. It's a super solid engine with all the bugs worked out. the 4.0L X300 V8 that replaced it had a lot of problems initially. Count yourself very lucky, it's a keeper. It's worth whatever you have to put into it to fix the cooling system. Get the part numbers for the hoses and start searching the Internet. Trick with Jags whether older ones or newer ones is that you take it off in layers. You should try working on a V12 XJ40 lol... bendy arms and bendy spanners, pinhole surgery but you take off the top layer and the layer of stuff below it and you have pretty much the whole engine easily in reach. Brave man taking on a used, bought unseen Jag lol However once things put right they tend to be super solid motors.

Yes! It's a Jaaaag and if you think this is a tough to work on then try working on one of the newer ones. And don't buy a Rolls or you will get a bigger surprise.
I've worked on the 6 pipe hose and you have to remove a few parts to do it properly. I don't like the idea of stop leak. Lots of mechanics are lazy and don't clean all the hose nipples properly when changing the main 6 pipe hose and that causes leaks. One of the most awkward hoses to change is the very short fat one under the throttle body under the super charger. You need a very small hand or you have to remove a lot of stuff. Good luck. With Jags you either get them or you don't. If you buy them for what they were intended then they are great. But if you buy them for a cheap fast car then you might be dissapointed. They are the most missunderstood car ever. My first car in the 70's was a Jag but even then I fully got what Jags were all about and it wasn't anything to do with speed. Grace Space and Pace. Pace being speed was the last thing on William Lyons motto.

Hopefully AutoZone or O'Reilly auto parts complains about it enough and lobbies government to pressure automakers to support aftermarket parts production. Us automakers could even make more money by allowing aftermarket parts production and sales.

I have a 99 XJR, and at least for the V8 version, I can tell you that if the battery gets even a little bit bad it will start throwing codes. Also they say that the breather pipe having oil in it is "normal", I guess since it's got a pcv valve running to it. How full yours is, idk. Some people put an oil separator can in line to prevent that. Not sure about the 6 cyl. but there's a lot of stuff electronically that started going bad on mine after 100k miles, sensors etc. Even the ECU will start doing weird shit after a while like not remembering your seat setting, not letting the fod open the doors, losing the fod programming, sun roof not wanting to close on the first try, motor randomly hard starting every week or 2, throwing traction codes once every couple months for no reason and then mysteriously going away. Stuff like that.

After almost a year I came back to the channel for the Jaguar. But once I saw the annoying guy and after advancing the video notice him with a pistol like a child bragging of his new toy, I decided to stop the video, post this comment and be gone for at least 2 years. Go back to Monkey Wrench Mike and Weird Beard. This TK is for no good. You should chose your friends better.

That thing is so clean, I love the rims. You had to know with any jag it wouldn't be a simple fix.

Give her new plugs, factory spec oil & coolant change, hoses & belts, air filter & 93 grade octane fuel, and watch the Trac control give you a sphincter clincher moment...

25 year old busted coolant hose is not bad design or a reliabiliti issue. It´s a maintainance issue. With propper maintainance those are among the most relaiable cars of that era out there.
Get familiar with it, Lot of info out there. Do the maintainance needed and enjoy.
Had mine as a daily driver for close to four years now. 280000km and still going strong. Always a turn key and go.

They built it that way so when something goes wrong, you almost have to bring it to the dealer and pay insane parts and labor rates.

It’s the hose. I suggest changing all the radiator hoses. He was really close to it just needs a better view from the top.

This car should be brought back as close to original as possible because it is a classic Jaguar that will not be produced again. A well preserved example will bring good money from a Jaguar collector. It sounds as if your intent is to make it into a loud and trashy looking clunker in an attempt to get more views. To do so would be a shame! Put in a windshield, give it a good cleaning and buff, correct the codes, and send her down the road.

Hey Randy, you always said you didn't want to sell a car back that isn't safe, or that you wouldn't drive, so I guess it's a good thing it happened to you since you have the skills to fix it rather than the next person who owns it!
Otherwise.. that Jag is SICK! Great pick!

If you want the rear folding tables you would need the Vanden Plas edition. I have had a few Jaguars and loved the Straight 6 and the V8 from when Ford owned them until India and the Tuk Tuk Corporation bought them. (Yes I have run out of all your newer episodes.)

😏shoulda went with the LS400 Randy, the UZ series under the hood is way more desirable & sells like hotcake, hands down the best cylinder head ever made theres a reason why those with such high mileage are so expensive, they run forever.

Normally we would change pulleys on both crank and supercharger.
The oil in supercharger is normal especially if its been driven light and short journey's.
Those straight 6 engines are normally indestructible we had one driven with no oil in for 25 miles and went on another 50k before the body was rotten.

Unless the supercharger hose is torn all you would have to do is take the jubilee clip and fit it over the hose.
