    Your journey from sporadic running to improving your 10K time is inspiring, Ben! Your dedication to mixing up your training routine, including interval and tempo sessions, along with the introduction of super shoes, clearly paid off. Thanks for sharing your valuable insights, and I hope your future races are filled with even more success and personal bests. Keep running strong, mate! 🏃‍♂💪

      Thanks Mihai, I've enjoyed mixing it up a bit and doing some more structured road training for once rather than lots of easy trail miles. Nice to try a different kind of challenge. Thanks for the support mate, hope you're keeping well 👍

      Cheers Ian! Thought I'd mix it up about with this road stuff and I've enjoyed it overall. The trails is ultimately still where I prefer but it's been good to have a different kind of challenge.

    Huge congrats on the PB Ben, especially in these conditions! Every piece of content I saw about this race mentioned the horrendous wind! Training plays a huge role but super shoes can definitely give that little extra help on race day.

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Chloe 😀 It's such a flat route so great along the prom for that but any slight bit of wind you really feel but the parts where it was behind us really helped!

    Paces beginning with 3: are basically a sprint for me 😂 Great running there, Ben. I have also been wary of doing too many runs on the road when I'm used to trails. It's tricky for those dark evening runs though. I prefer the lit streets to dark trails.

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers Mark. Definitely agree with that, intended to save trail runs in this block for the day and then road runs when it was dark and we have street lights along the promenade so it's much easier to see there. Really does help. Last week Carla was off to do a 22 mile run in prep for her ultra this weekend along the clifftops in the dark and I was doing some running steady along the roads with lights and that was one of the times where I thought 10k road training isn't all that bad 😂

    Smart training plan… wise to keep to the trails (for some of the running). Smashed it

    Very thoughtful as ever. Some excellent takeaways on varying the paces of training runs and doing specific work just faster and slower than goal race pace.
    For someone like yourself whose recent background is not road racing I'd suggest that a 12-week block would yield even better results.
    Most runners would also benefit from specific hill training but in your case lack of elevation is not an issue!
    Looking forward to your next challenge.

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks both. Enjoyed the training for this a lot more than I thought I would keeping some trails in there but then also doing the higher intensity stuff on the roads. I must say trying to nail paces is hard! Can definitely see how it would get easier with a bigger block and as your body adapts to the demands of it. I tend to run on RPE so getting to pace felt more demanding.
      Hoping to give the half and marathon a go in the near future as I feel like they're very much unfinished business so may well return to the roads again!

    Great time Ben! The starting out slightly conservatively would have helped & stopped the dreaded too fast too soon! Thanks for the training insights, mixing the training up looks to have worked wonders 👍

      Thanks Martin. Having that wall of people at the start to hide behind with the wind was definitely a good thing in the end! Enjoyed this race a lot, something which I wouldn't have thought I'd say about a road 10k 😀

      @timeonfeet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Oliver! I may well do a strength and conditiong video in the new year but I'm hoping to refine my sessions a bit more first as I still don't feel I properly got it down so wouldn't want to put out anything half baked! I'm doing a lot with the kettle bell at the moment and really enjoying that but could probably do with progressing the intensity and weight I use more to develop better strength. There's a good video on strength and conditioning for runners on the Running Channel I often use which I'd recommend and also a Ben Parkes video on kettlebell exercises if you have one of those or access to one in a gym

      @@timeonfeet thanks, I’ll take a look at them. I’ve also watched some James Dunne videos on injury prevention workouts and used a free app which was recommended to me called Exakt which has a programmed workout plan for various areas. There is lots of food stuff out there, but I struggle to get it all consolidated into a session - and also struggle with the motivation to do it, but that’s a separate issue 😆

    What a cracking result Ben great running mate! Looked like those few weeks of 10k speciifc training really paid off mate! 👏🏅 I often wonder what I could do a flat road run. I ak syre it wont be nearly as good as you but I reacon I could get a PB if I gave it a bash. Great vid mate. Good to have you vack on our screens again buddy! 😎🤘

    • @timeonfeet
      @timeonfeet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers Ben! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the training for it, it's a different kind of suffering to get used to in comparison to longer trail stuff but nice to mix it up a bit 😅 I'm sure you'd do great in going for a PB, you'd have an excellent base from all the trails and hills. The main challenge I found was having the heart rate that high for that long and keeping the legs turning quick enough but it did get easier! Are you tempted to do any road races?
