Nah even from the beginning Esme had way too much venom for getting revenge on Ava. It always seemed like she had her own agenda & then when they showed her interest in Ryan that's when we knew she had her own connection. Esme was pulling the strings & whispering in his ear the whole time. But honestly, Ryan planting Esme at Spencer's school was next level genius.
It was this is retcon to blame Ryan for everyone's crimes. Esme helped Spencer in his schemes because he hated Ava which made her hate Ava and they pinned it on Ryan then but the truth came out that it was Spencer but since he with goofy goody Trina he gets a clean slate and Ryan and Esme are left holding the bag along with Ava blaming Nikolas on Ryan and Heather's crimes. Ryan was delusional but he didn't have any part in Ava, Spencer, or Heather crimes.

Esme father is Ryan unless Heather raped Kevin because neither knew each other when they conceived her Heather took off and left Ryan while pregnant and gave the baby away her usual. He never knew who she really was and there's speculation that Heather LSD'd Ryan and made him go nuts his erratic behavior shift when Kevin found him howling like a wolf, Heather alluded to Ryan and her howling like wolves in a cabin also he's acting odd here which is possibly a result of it too the blade she gave him was probably laced and he didn't see it coming. She set him up.
Maura West should have gotten an Emmy nomination for Lead Actress for these scenes. She's also long overdue for her fourth Lead Actress Statue.
