I know this is a year old but just wanted to say thanks! Got my cello a few weeks ago and trying to learn a few easy songs. I did have to pause a few times and go back but I loved the tape and finger numbers. Made it so much easier! Thanks again!
I’m a complete begginer, I just started playing 2 months ago. I was invited to play for my community theatre on the 15th of December. This is really gonna help me
I did it! I ‘ve learned this song with this video!! Thanks a lot for this, it is easier to understand how should I play, and your voice in my head (which fingers )still always when I play silent night. I Would like to watch more videos like this one.
@@thebitchinyourhead2490 don't know how I would explain it? it's literally just a different song that happens to have the same lyrics of Silent night as the title
i really just want to say how talented you are and how amazing it is that you share it with others. you truly are an inspiration and a great role model to young people like me. thanks again and keep doing what you do :)
Merry Christmas and thanks for the song. I’ve always loved the sound of the cello but I only recently(within the last year) bought one and this will be my second song to learn, ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ being the first LoL I’m no Hauser or Yo-Yo Ma but I’m on my way 😂😁
Great picture! Lights are adding cosiness, but you should have turned on a golden lamp stand in the background as well! Why haven't you? It is there...
I need so many things studio-wise! Audio equipment comes first, but what kind of shoulder light would you recommend? I have studio lighting, but I don’t like using it because it’s so white. And I prefer warm. Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks for the vid, very helpful. I have an issue I was hoping you could help with. I am self learning to play the cello and the big issue I have is I seem to hit more than o e string at a time and I cant figure out why. Also it can make this screeching noise alot so I clean the rosin off the strings is it possible I have to much on my bow? Any help would be appreciated. Looking forward to your next vid.
Hello, great tutorial you've made! This might be a bit off topic, but I'm currently in 8th grade playing the cello and I would definitely consider myself an intermediate-advanced kind of student. I don't have private lessons, but my teacher says I play well for someone who doesn't have private lessons. Since I'm almost towards High School, do you have any recommendations I should know? Should I try for an advanced group in High School? Should I consider taking private lessons? Is there anything I should start practicing and improving on? I know I definitely want to continue orchestra until senior probably. Such a beautiful instrument!
Hi there, I've been watching your videos for a while and I've recently(finally) gotten a cello of my own and there was just some things I was hoping you could shed some light on that I haven't seen yet in your tutorials. I have a couple of questions, one being if you could go over some beginner sheet music or even more advanced sheet music but take us through the steps of sight reading and playing to show the correlation between the two?(Unless you already have made one). Also, do you have any recommendations of what to work on like first, second, and so on and so forth? Just so I have an idea of which direction I should be going when I practice each day. Thanks
I've watched so many of your videos; all of them are great! I can play this by ear, but I just hit the notes. You PLAY them! So nice...I really need a vibrato! Also, I LOVE your cello. It is such a beautiful finish. I was wondering your thought on this: I tend to leave my second finger free, when playing 3rd or 4th finger. I'm not sure why, but it this a bad habit I should fix? What does it implact? (I suspect it is from playing electric bass/guitar so if it isn't on a chord, it's out of the way...)
Kenny Fah Rogers Hi, I’m a student of Sarah’s, and before starting lessons with her, I used to have a similar habit where I lifted my first and second fingers quite a bit when playing on third finger. It’s definitely worth fixing early on, because as you get into playing faster passages and pieces, it’ll be much harder than necessary to play them fast with good coordination. I speak from experience of that scenario myself. The longer you do this for, the harder it’ll be to fix. I don’t say that to discourage you, though! Something to try doing (which has helped me a ton) is starting your practice with a piece or a scale you’re comfortable with. Set a timer for five minutes and play that piece or scale, focusing specifically on keeping those fingers down when you play. Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule, as there with others, but it’s definitely very very good to get into this habit as soon as possible. Then, once the five minutes is up, go back to your normal practice and just keep it in the back of your brain, but don’t focus on it exclusively. I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, feel free to reply again, and I, another commenter, or Sarah will get you a response ASAP. 😊
Hello, i would appreciate, if your fingers would be soomed in the picture, so we can better see. And your voice could be a little bit louder. Thank you so much for the video.
This is a realy good video, BUT. You lost mit in the last third when you stoped being as precise as in the beginning and only called out notes and not fingers and strings. I was more or less able to hold up but for the last 10 notes I had to start searching for another video 😭 Wich was quite frustrating! So even the video overall was amazing it ended for me with a very bitter, unsatisfying note 😅🙈
Yeah, I always do that when recording the cello in my studio - never in live performances. It just sounds better in my mic that way. But that’s probably just me being bad with equipment 😅
I'm a 60 year old guitar player. Just starting the cello. Thought it would be easier. Ha! Thanks for the great tutorials Sarah!

Hi, I'm not a beginner cellist but I think it would help if you zoomed in on the fingers instead.
This tutorial was so helpful, thanks! 💕I need to play it as a Christmas present (tomorrow lol)

I didn’t want to be backlit. Also it looks like I have a halo when I do that.

My daughter is learning the cello,do you have eny videos without fingers on the strings?
How can I find the right position for these tapes?
O holy night would be nice!
Hello. What finger is on the G string when playing C at the beginning at the song?
Is this coincidence ... I have just learnt this with my teacher.....😂😂and played it when my lesson starts with my teachers accompanied

Merci beaucoup pour cette version. Cela va permettre de la travailler sur une autre tonalité (je la travaille en sol majeur)

Not bad
Why don't you do closeups of your fingers so we could actually see what you're doing
The sound on your videos is extremely low volume. Impossible without headphones.
Yeah, sorry about that. Since this video, I’ve learned how to raise it. :)
