- Originally aired during the spring of 1984. WDIV was and is the NBC affiliate in Detroit, Michigan.
At this time, WDIV was the carrier for Detroit Tiger baseball and this graphic was used after a Tigers victory. This clip is a little different than the ones already on the web in that the Tiger is crunching the bat to pieces, rather than swinging it with its mouth as in later years.

They played that a lot in '84, '87 too.

Someone correct me on this, as I'm going specifically by memory of watching the games when I was a child. On victory outros, the mascot would actually eat the logo or artifact from the team that they won against, followed by the WDIV logo transition. This was done in the early 80s up till 1982. Starting with 1983, victories were changed to the video above, but with the WDIV logo transition. Eventually the WDIV transition was taken away, leaving the animation as a freeze frame. Final victory animation was just the intro (without the WDIV intro transition). TelevisionDetroit actually has a victory outro from 1980 for those interested.
You are absolutely correct. At the end of this 1980 broadcast, after the Tigers defeated the Orioles, the Tiger is eating orange feathers. th-cam.com/video/-T49aQWDLrI/w-d-xo.html That season, WDIV had an inside cover ad with the Tiger TV schedule that showed the Tiger eating a variation of every teams logo and Burger King had a promotion with Tiger eating two teams logo on a set of drinking glasses (one on one side, another team on the other).

@@TelevisionDetroit I grew up in this era watching Tigers games. I watched them out of GR on the Kalamazoo CBS affiliate (WKZO, later WWMT) I always remembered the whimpering Tiger after a loss, I never remembered what they showed after a win. My faded childhood memory was that they just repeated the roaring Tiger opening, so seeing that clip you posted of the Tiger eating the Oriole was hilarious. It’d be cool to see a compilation sometime of all of the different variations of the WDIV outros. Thanks so much for putting some of these up for viewing!
