  • Note: Scraping the connectors might not be needed. Just bend the small fins from the switch and see if it solves the issue.
    How to solve the google home mini issue: "your mic is off" "your mic is on" while mic button is on. Solution with no soldering, that allows for the mic button still to be usable after the fix.
    No music, no voiceover. Silence. ;)

      I'm so glad that I found this video - de that I didn't follow one of the other complicated ones which had permanently changed the device.
      I'm also feeling very proud that I managed to fix my device. A big thank you for making the video! ❤️

    I wonder why a company like google is creating junk. A lot of people would have thrown this in the rubbish tip. I have two of these and both have the same problem. Thanks for saving these.

    This was a really great fix, solved my problem and only took 15 minutes. The most difficult thing was getting the rubber base off but the hairdryer did the trick.

    Thank you. This is the true fix, not like some other vids where you break off the entire black box (which may solve the issue forever, but is permanently disabling mute function). Problem is the metal plate and contacts rusting over time. All is needed is a good scratch and wipe.

    Wanted to say thank you OP! Wonderfully detailed review of the switch cleaning. I think it worked like a champ. Back up and running... now waiting to see if I smash it with a hamm... I mean see how well it works. Thanks again!

    To avoid future problems add some dielectric grease on the contacts so they don't corrode over time.

    Cool!THANKS! I'll try that on my speaker to see if it works because it's driving me crazy with the mics on , the mics back off.
    I did have it in the bathroom so it makes sense. Maybe put some vaseline on the contacts to prevent it from happening again ?

    • @TheVanTill
      @TheVanTill  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Might not be from using it in the bathroom, as it happens in dry environment as well. If the vaseline is non-conductive, you might have the opposite effect, i wouldn't do it. However, if you keep it in the bathroom, do not scratch the contacts as I did. First try only to bend the small fins and see if it works.

    This is a great tutorial and all, but I'll just buy another one LMBO. I have Echo dots and an Echo show. They work better and don't have this error. Get an Echo Dot (Alexa speaker) and also you can replace these with a used one for like 10 dollars. Worth it to me rather than doing all this taking apart to fix.

    I just sprayed some electronics cleaner in the switch and turned it off an on a bunch of times. Still had to open it up to get to it though.

    So lame. I guess Google used a cheap switch to save a few cents, all for a function that few people use. I just hard wired the switch to the ON position.

    Already removed switch of gnest mini but still having "mic off" issue. Is there any other way to correct this?

    • @TheVanTill
      @TheVanTill  ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you have soldered together the right pins after removing the switch (recheck the tutorials about removing the switch). Otherwise there might be other problems, lose wire or faulty mic.

    I have the same problem, but when I use the hairdryer the part below doesn't come off... it seems to be hermetically closed

    • @TheVanTill
      @TheVanTill  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not easy to take it off. It needs to be warm (not hot, risking to melt the plastic) and you have to lift it with a thin tool, making sure you go under the stiff plastic sheet that is the base of the red rubber.

    • @clod262
      @clod262 2 ปีที่แล้ว
