Thanks for posting. - Heard and read about this. Two of whom I know who were there report that he was unhappy with the tempo - too slow. He did return, and then played an incredible performance of "I'm Still Standing".
He said it was too slow. And then then when they went to retry it, they made it even slower! I would be goddamn pissed too, especially if they rehearsed for this! I don't think Elton is being a diva here, I think I'd be pretty pissed off myself.
Sounded good to me, tempo like that of the hit single. Perfect, actually. Concert versions of the hits are always at a faster tempo. And as far as what he did in his 80's coke years, the tempo was ridiculously fast and out of control.
I think you may have just coined a new term- "Coke Tempo." Urgh, It drives me insane when I go to a concert, and they're just flying through songs, their efforts barely representing the song we all grew to love, or not at all, and I think "Coke Tempo" is a great way to describe it!! ♥️ ❤❤

I just played by the 1975 album version and they're definitely playing it more uptempo here...I think I'm going to pull a rare one and side against Elton here. He's being too uppity: they're already playing faster than the album version, no need to repeat the "coke years" speed. Hopefully just a bad mood, and not drug related.

He’s also toured way more than anyone else / the odds are not in his favor. He has famously been known to be a perfectionist. You don’t become a legend by not being one I suppose.

@@bernlin2000 For your information, the guitarist is Davey, has been with him since 1974, the drummer is Nigel Olsson who's been there since the 70s, fired in 1985, came back mid 90s (I believe), keyboard guy has been changed throughout the years from Fred Mandel (unknown reason for departure), Guy Babylon (left because of death), and now Kim Bullard, Matt Bissonette took over Dee Murray because he also died in 1993, and the legendary Ray Cooper who have been playing occasionally with Elton since 1979, 1994, 2009, and is permanently with the band since 2016. All Im saying is that Elton still has his old (available) crew to help him do his songs so "the hell is this band"? This is Elton's old people crew who made amazing music

he's one of the most unprofessional performers I've ever seen. I've been a professional performer for 30 years. I would never act like that in front of an audience no matter how big I think I am or how cool I think I am or how much I think people act like they like me
You're correct. He doesn't seem to understand that acting like a spoiled brat, raging and screaming and swearing and walking off the stage makes him look like a total idiot, not to mention a big baby. But, then again, maybe he knows something. I heard the audience actually cheering when he walked off the stage. Go figure......

Dude how can performing be a goddamn profession? Performing or music can be professional but should not be exclusive in that sense. So not only did you think Elton trained for a significant amount of his life to be where he is and that received a formal certificate for it, it's also very naive to put him in that position.

I don't really think it was too slow the first time, but to not speed up at all the second time was...a seriously dick move. That's on the drummer, fundamentally. Guy has been running on fumes for decades. Never understood his appeal as a live performer. Or otherwise, really. He had his time but it was a bit of awhile ago. Instead of storming off he should simply take charge. Disrespectful to those who paid to see him and band alike.
Yeah storming off like a child is embarrassing for the audience and the band. Part of live music is seeing things go off the rails occasionally, flubbing lyrics, missing changes. You don't storm off like a spoiled child. You joke with the audience. I've seen big acts completely forget verses to their biggest hits and play it off like it was nothing and the audience lapped it up. It's live music.

If you mess up, you make a joke out of it, get the audience laughing and likely win a deeper appreciation for you as they see you're human after all. If someone along the staff fucks up, it's worth getting pissed about. He's been singing for longer than anyone in that audience has been alive, how much more "appreciation" do you really think he has to earn? Does anyone in that audience seem bothered to you? Nope. Clearly you're not a fan and just looking to criticize.

I'm guessing his crew and band are a revolving door because of his attitude and his willingness to embarrass them publically when things don't go his way, which is *always* a risk in a live setting. I can understand upset, yes. Storming off stage is unprofessional, amateurish and just plain bad showmanship. He owes the crowd an apology (which he may have done). Handled better, instead of a video labeled "Elton storms off stage," it would be called, "false start, funny! It's live music. I've seen the Stones laugh it off when they screw up, and the crowd laughs along with them. I've seen a ton of lesser acts do the same. This is embarrassing for the band, the crew, and the crowd. Most of them sound quietly stunned, because they don't know what's going on. I think a large part of his audience enjoys his childish tantrums as part of the show, but I can guarantee that his crew and band despise him for it, and I'm sure a large part of the audience, who each paid hundreds to see him, went home and told everyone how he stormed off as the most memorable part of the show. If he's willing to do this in front of a paying audience, I can only imagine what happens behind closed doors.
