  • Building a mini table saw powered by a Dremel flex shaft for cutting thin sheets of carbon fiber, plastic, fiberglass, foam etc. 3D printable housing with adjustable legs was designed to stabilize the rotary tool while providing flexibility to work with different size cutting wheels. Hinged top on the plywood base allows access to a compartment for storing the rotary tool and accessories when not in use.

    This is so fucking cool, it's incredible what one person can make with the right tools (and an engineer's brain, obvs)
    Also watching someone cut a tiny piece of cardboard on a tiny cardboard table saw was an "awwwww" kinda moment

    I love how at the beginning of the video you have a completely functional table saw made (almost) entirely of cardboard. Freaking awesome! :)

    I have an old sewing table with a swinging lid. I may just try to do the same with my flexshaft and 3000! Thank you so much, I cannot afford a bad mini table saw and a good one is way too expensive

    Did you go any farther with this, or do you rarely use it to bother? There was a lot let left to do to make it reliable, but is it worth it...

    very cool. Really like the CF top (though you loose some cutting depth with how thick it is). It will be interesting to see how it wears. I imagine that as you use it, your list of mods will grow (grin). I can only imagine the "tinkering" you had to do to get the pieces to all fit especially with having to reprint parts, have you ever considered a project clock for your videos? Essentially, it would be just a little clock (doesnt have to be more than a click face ) that you keep updating with the amount of time you have in the project.

    • @LindyDesignLab
      @LindyDesignLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The coating on top added way more thickness than I wanted, so eventually I'll sand that down and get back a couple millimeters. Interesting idea, but literally having the clock running sounds stressful.

    • @TheJacklwilliams
      @TheJacklwilliams ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with the idea of the clock in no one ever posts the amount of time for the build. However, per your point Lindy, I can also see how that would add stress and? I don’t do this stuff for stress 😂.

    Really cool idea.
    Have you thought about a scissor mechanism for the rising of the dremel?
    Do you have stability issue with the current system?

    • @LindyDesignLab
      @LindyDesignLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Went with this leg design because it allows 2 axis adjustment and angling if I want to convert for bevel cuts at some point. No stability issues as of yet. The dremel isn't really powerful enough to cause issues there I don't think.

  • @MatthieuLibeert

    been playing with this idea as well, specially for cutting of the flanges of parts this way. Well designed, but if I can give you a few tips I would do differently is get rid of the flexible shaft for this and make a mount for the dremel directly for more torque and power. As well be carefull with the shaft getting stuck in parts while the dremel is still on full power, Might get nasty then with the shaft moving and getting stuck in your table :)

    • @LindyDesignLab
      @LindyDesignLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely considered doing it that way, but the tradeoff is the main body of my Dremel is much thicker than the flex shaft, so the cutting wheel would have to be huge for this type of top. Also a pain to switch back and forth since I like the flex shaft for hand cutting. I primarily need to cut wide/thin composite sheets with it, but for thicker stuff, absolutely agree, not the best option.

  • @JosephLorentzen
    @JosephLorentzen 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really neat, but you could have raised the shaft on a scissors jack thing:2745830 or even simpler a screw with a knob for a jack. With either one, micro adjustment in height would be a breeze once you are aware of the thread count.

    • @LindyDesignLab
      @LindyDesignLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed. I wanted the option to also move it forward/backward for different shaft lengths and at an angle in case it needs to be modified for bevel cuts in future. Maybe unnecessary.

    really nice. Can flex shaft be attached to a bigger drill to use with a bigger diameter cutters?

    • @LindyDesignLab
      @LindyDesignLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flex shaft only fits Dremel far as I know, but they do sell bigger diameter cutters. It's not powerful enough to cut thick stuff anyway, just meant for thin sheet material.

    • @DanDishonored

      @@LindyDesignLab I like your design. If I will have some time, I will make one with cheap flex shaft I got from ebay. It fits to my big drill chuck.
