I am not a scholar, or biblical specialist, but I've wondered before whether the exodus story is some sort of misinterpretation of Egypt's conquer of the southern Levant between ~ 1500 - 1100 BCE. I've never explored the thought, but I've wondered. It's not unreasonable to think such an ancient event wouldn't be passed down and corrupted over hundreds of years. The end of the 'occupation' by egypt coincides with 1st temple period. Is this ever talked about?
I've read "The Moses Scroll" about this "Shapira Scroll". It's very interesting story. I think it was rather not authentic -- but rather, that is, I am not at all sure.
The Israelites experienced the Angel of the Lord and the Holy Spirit, and they are being reminded that these Persons are the same God as the Father, YHWH. From the time of Abraham, if not earlier, God's people have perceived and worshipped a Triune God.
