I appreciate your attention to detail and the way you highlighted things on screen. This video helped refresh me on the game after a long break! Thanks!
I'm halfway through this and I just gotta stop and say that I don't think I've ever seen a better tutorial for any game, let alone a game this complex! Well done and thank you!
IMHO this is an excellent guide. Zero BS. Max info per minute. Great presentation. Excellent script. If like me you've tried this game a bit and are still bemused about what half the stuff in it does and why you are getting your arse handed to you all the time I guarantee you will be glued to this video for the full 60 minutes duration. Essential viewing for the Star Trader noob.
Excellent tutorial. Had the game for years. The complexity has always overwhelmed me to the point where I switch off and don't play again. Watching this video has renewed my interest and taught me key fundamentals to enable me to enjoy and know what I'm doing. Spot on looking forward to playing now 👍
Fantastic guide mate, lot to be said for getting in there and learn by doing/dying but having a solid foundation to go off to alleviate frustrations of "well I wish I knew that earlier" certainly helps. Would love to see a trading guide 👀
Others have said it, but it bears repeating: this is *the best* guide or tutorial for this game on TH-cam. Or anywhere else for that matter. The writing is tight and engaging; the presentation is broadcast standard for video, graphics and editing; the narration is smooth and personable. Bloody brilliant. I can't help but wonder if you are, or have been a teacher, professor or instructor. Or have performed as a VO announcer or voice actor. *Like* and *Subscribe* goes without saying. Content creators like you are the sole reason I continue with TH-cam.
Thanks Lone Wolf! I have heard from a lot of commenters on my other videos (mostly the Stellaris tutorials) that I must be a teacher. Nope, LOL. Guess I missed my calling!
I just learned about this game's existence yesterday. I really like the way this video explains things, and I feel confident that when I get started I'll be able to put myself in a situation I can succeed! Thank you!
This is a very neat intro. I couldn't find a way to have fun in basic mode. This intro exactly explains why something should be done rather than just letting you know the answer. This is good. If you are going to work with something, you'd better know how it works.
You should have more subscribers. This was a very conscientious effort. As is in all of your videos. As a sound engineer I must say you have the perfect voice for podcasting or radio.
Excellent tutorial. I appreciate the time you put into it. I've tried a couple times to get into the game but the learning curve was more like a solid wall than a curve. Thanks so much!
Subscribed! What an excellent video, thanks mate! I downloaded this on my iPad and am loving it. If you do feel like there is enough interest it would be awesome to see some of the topics you raised fleshed out in their own video guides too.
Absolutely excellent tutorial! You’re the best man. I come back to this over and over lol. Getting better but still haven’t beat it on hard. Ty for your vids!
Awesome video. Yes please to a trading tutorial. Also would like to know more about reputation farming/maintenance, as well as influence for contacts, leveling up military ranks and edicts, as well as trade permits. This game is incredibly complex and lit.
Get out of my head ColorsFade! I saw this first thing Friday after completing my Kerensky BattleTech achievement and after binge-watching Firefly last weekend... So Saturday and Sunday was spent trying to figure out this game. I love that the ship is configurable, your character is configurable, your crew is configurable... there are so many interesting decisions and ways you can build synergies. What are the best Jobs for your Captain? What 2nd Job best synergizes with Smuggler for my Captain? What are the best Jobs for your Officers? What 2nd Job best synergizes with Swordsman for my combat officer? These are examples of the hundreds of questions I have after playing this game all weekend.
Ty so much bro. I came from the 1st one and started on that permadeath difficulty so I can get all achievements and oh boy... many many deaths under my belt lol. Thanks for this turtorial man
This is what I have been looking for! I am looking forward to my next run in this game now. Brilliant tuorial and best I found on the game. I noticed you done Stellaris but unfortunately I already have 2000 hours in that game :) I'll definitely sub and hopefully find some more good space-sim-type games you have done before and in the future.
Seriously... 1: Excellent choices on content and order presented. It can be difficult to 'know' when a topic should be considered a subtopic, and there could be many good ways to do so, your choices seem to reflect how a new player might need to associate them. 2: 10 out of 10 on presentation. Are you an (ex)Toastmaster? Do you use a script? Do you do a lot of editing? No 'ands', 'ums', pregnant pauses, etc. And your voicing is excellent. Usually videos over 30 minutes don't get fully watched or have a lot of right arrow presses. This video was watched fully without any skips. Massively good job. I have subscribed without even knowing if you have done others. And thank you for the effort. It truly is appreciated.
Thanks Quantum! Great comment! I am not a Toastmaster, but my father was. He had to work at being a good public speaker. Unlike him, I've always enjoyed it. To answer your question, yes, I typically do script out my tutorials. I spend a lot of time writing, editing, and rearranging before I put my voice to a mic. But even still, eliminating verbal crutches is something I try really hard to do. You'll notice a lack of those on my Let's Play series as well, which are not scripted by any means. Verbal crutches have always annoyed me, so I work hard to present a clean audio experience. Glad you liked it!
@@ColorsFadeGaming Just installed the game. I'm old and my memory isn't what it used to be. Time to watch this again :) On another note, I truly hope your wife finds a job she truly enjoys. I've been going thru what she is for most of my adult life. I know what she is going thru and feel very sorry for her. If I can help out in anyway, please contact me - even if she needs someone to talk to about it. Those who have never been in this position can never really appreciate what she is gong through. Good luck to both of you!
Just getting into this game. Where the heck is all this information available? Manual? Wiki? The graphics belies a super complex game; complexity is my favorite genre.
Congrats! You've found your star in this galaxy o7 Cant wait for a Hard Playthrough & that trading guide! Indie Zones with low trade laws are 👌 example: Temple of Refuge
Diplomat is also great for juggling reputation with captain passive giving +1~2 rep and negate 1 negative rep in every mission step. Diplomat also has talents to further reduce rep penalty.
Thanks for the excellent guide. I'm at the point where if I'm thinking about buying a game, my 1st question is "Is there a ColorsFade Gaming tutorial for it?"
This is a really great guide. Thanks for making it. Any chance you'd be willing to make a video about captain and officer builds? They are the 1 thing I am finding to be overwhelming as I learn this game.
Great tutorial but as a first time player I'd love for you to actually make a recommendation on what to prioritize for a first game template. Once I play a little, I'm sure I can figure out what to adjust. But going in blind in the beginning, this game is quite overwhelming.
@@ColorsFadeGaming Thank you for the reply. I mean when you're choosing the new Captain template--specifically, how to rank/emphasize Attributes-Experience-Ship-Contacts-Skills. You do mention to pick Smuggler, which I did, which if I remember correctly locked me into picking "Experience" as #1; though I could change the others. I'm still just fuzzy on everything, even the setup, though the more I watch your videos and then play a little, the more I'm starting to get it--slowly. Thank you :).
Bah! They changed stuff. I assumed the icons where the same. It looks like the Defense Pattern Matrice has a different symbol now. Instead the symbol you are referring to at 22:56 is the Pilot Assist module, which gives Evade Craft attacks. :P I bought the wrong thing and it feels bad man. Anyway great guide, got me feeling very comftorable with the game.
In the most recent videos on the site (Pathfinder, Battletech, Mechwarrior) I'm using an SM58. I wish I'd have started using it years ago. I've had it sitting around in my gig bag, but never needed it because every band I've ever been in already has a P.A. and mics.
48:57 Yes, many of the cards do have negative consequences, those can easily be mitigated by Talents but most importantly, they still generate XP for the crew. Just wanted to point that out as combat and missions are not the only way your crew acquires XP.
Thanks for the video. Its a really nice guide for a very nice game. The wiki says that you can only gain upto 100% of your crew die during combat. According to that, going over 100% should not help combat. Am I getting something wrong.
@@saltcheese The wiki is a little bit confusing on this. It's 200%. If you read further down, you come to this part: "OVERSTAFFED: If your Ship requires 15 Pilot and your Crew provides 30 Pilot Skill Pool, then you have reached the maximum number of pilots who can assist in using the controls effectively. Adding more Pilot Skill Pool will not grant you any additional dice. The maximum Ship Skill Pool you can roll is twice that of the demand of your ship's components requirement for the Skill. Therefore, with 15 Pilot demanded by your ship, 30 is the maximum number of dice you can possibly roll. Therefore, if your ship requires 15 Pilot (therefore, 15 Strong Dice), the maximum number of Standard Dice you can roll is 15 as well. Exceeding 30/15 in Pilot Skill Pool is a waste of Skill points which are not being translated into dice. The exact same dice will be rolled if you have 35/15 compared to having 30/15. In this case, you are better off adding more components that require Pilot, so that you can shift back into the optimal range." 15/15 would be 100% 30/15 is 200%, and that's the point when you stop getting any more extra dice rolls.
Damn, thanks a lot for the tutorial! My head is ringing from all the info but at least I understand a lot more now (tho frak I need to start over lol). The game is awesome but it does a very bad job of explaining stuff.
0:47 simple game?naaaah that only when you play on baby difficulty.........try on the harder mode with perma death........somehow even with full skill on said section my crew had the big brain moment to start a fight among themselves and then I encounter a xeno ship which somehow took a single turn with a single xeno torp magically hit my captain..........and I die instantly.......bless the RNG of this game.........

Probably the most clearly and concisely explained tutorial on this game on TH-cam. Other guides make the game way too complicated.
