Several rounds of oops, and Round 2 Game 2 being the most entertaining round of Legacy I've seen in a long time says a lot about the current state of the format.
Thanks for playing this Phil, i was watching the storm count as that was one thing i was wondering if it was *possible* and there was a few times we built enough storm to have won if we lucked into a tendrils or whatever. Hindsight totally agree that durress should have replaced pact which allows leyline from the board. Hindsight is 20/20 though. Overall impressed with a 2-3 finish for a first draft, gives me hope. Ill keep working on it. Much love, friend.
Yeah, a huge number of times after 1-2 leagues of play, you notice things like this from practical play that aren't immediately obvious at the brewing stage! Good luck as you continue to work on it!
8:36 was beautiful and diabolical. Thanks for the wild ride. I still think that you really need to make a t-shirt that says “I am a skillful magician.” Maybe also has the color wheel surrounding it. Though maybe I should make one. If I do I will comment and try to contact you to send you one.
Death Wish! In the mid-2000s, I played that card in my red-black control deck, against my friends... I loved it. Every time I cast it, I wondered "Is this even worth it?", but I sure did keep the Death Wish-board in my box of decks wherever I went!
No you didn't. To play magic properly, you place your spell on the stack and then pay costs. Since LED is a mana ability, you get to cast things from your hand with it.
It's a work-in-progress. I haven't fully built it yet. I'll throw it up on Moxfield when it's finished. That might be a month or so though. I have no free time at the moment to finish it!
17:31 - Is the Duress into Echo to protect against a counterspell? I was thinking it was wasted mana since they're drawing up to 7 anyway, but I guess if Echo gets countered you're just dead in the water. So yeah, that's probably it. I think I figured it out, now this comment is just for engagement.
Running a mountain (or badlands) as a one of will stop an opponent's spy while still allowing belcher combo (belcher doubles damage if you hit a mountain).
If the opponent can win by spying you they can almost always also win by targeting themselves. Is it worth the risk of whiffing by having the land in your top 9? I'm not sure.
Yup. It's essentially 8 Echoes. It's what old school storm decks used to do. Nowadays, Storm decks are either all in on something like Naus Tendrils or Necrodominance, or they are on more stable mana like The Epic Storm. Or they're just off storm entirely (e.g. Oops All Spells).
That round 1 was silly in all the right ways. Watching the more sleek contemporary version of a deck lose to the old more silly version of deck was amusing. I'm a sucker for silly decks that dont play magic correctly. Long time ago you 5-0'd a league with No Mana Dredge and that remains one of my favorite leagues. Sad to see silly decks like that get caught in the crossfire of Vexing Bauble being so good against top tier decks.
I can see two possible reasons: If in the deck BB is easier to make than R. If because of mana constraints you need to wish for something to cast on the following turn. I don't know if that makes Death Wish the better card but it's at least worth a consideration.

That game was a thing of beauty.
12:05 and this is precisely why I sideboard Progenitus in the mirror, turns a loss into a win.

Midrange Belcher? Legacy is in worse shape than I thought! Great content as always. I love that you never shy away from playing the spice.
31:09 you had the win. You play Wishclaw, activate, hold priority to crack all your LEDs for mana, tutor up Belcher and kill
11:55 was glorious
100% it was. came down here to see how many comments about it I'd see
The perfect league for a lunch break

Not only is it ok to play while hooded, but it’s the right choice given the edginess of the deck
13:35 now this is real magic.
This was one of the decks of all time.
Not only have I seen a deck like that, I've build 1 back in extended when all the artifacts got banned in standard
TIL how modal lands work with Goblin Charbelcher. Cool.
When I get funds, expect my Belcher Stompy to get submitted.
Pact of Negation is a card I forgot about, might have to think about it in my build.
No phil its not weird. Thats how i will be watching the video, as i am also very cold.
17:42
8 mana with the Belcher in hand. Am I missing something?
Edit: never mind misunderstood LED.

@@packcrackergoose7111 no LED discards before you get the mana
@@kaiseremotion854 Its still a mana ability.
@@kaiseremotion854 Oh, you're right. They added the "as an instant" line to oracle.
@@packcrackergoose7111 mhm, I learned it when making a mox that adds a mana of any colour but has the restriction of being empty handed
Today Phil does his Epic Storm impression.
We're here for a good time, not a long time
Phil can you show us your mono black commander deck list?

20:22 next time I hope you're able to pull a me!
Why, if you have belcher in hand, two LED and an active mox on the field, didn't you just win game 2 of rnd 3?
4:05 No 'Ancient Grudge' for those pesky baubles?
I might not be recording videos, but I also spend my computer time wrapped in a blanket just like you have. No judgement from me!
Round 2 game 2 was 😂
What are we entombing...? I don't understand why there are 4 in the maindeck. Is it just to put Echoes of Eon in for flashback?
its a 4 mana draw 7, you can just eot it with eons thats very good

Is there a reason you would use death wish instead of Wish offhand?
I can see two possible reasons:
If in the deck BB is easier to make than R.
If because of mana constraints you need to wish for something to cast on the following turn.
I don't know if that makes Death Wish the better card but it's at least worth a consideration.
@ I think he did go over it at end of video. Guess dark rit is just more efficient than the usual red rituals and you’re already using the black mdfcs
That intro while I'm covered in multiple comforters.
ThrabanUwU
Vexing bauble instead of pact in my mind.
Could have bounced the murktide with sink into stuper and lived another turn
Haha gotta love a deck that does all the things!
YO do u have a PO box for fan mail? Can I send u a space heater for Christmas? xD
LOLOLOL. I'm good, I can afford to pay my heating bills. I just like the cozy feel of blankets. XD
