One of my favorite movie franchises of all time. I really like the song "For the Dancing and the Dreaming" from How To Train Your Dragon 2. It's a proposal ballad sung by Hiccup's parents, who have separated for 2 decades finally back together, but for how long. You'll have to watch the movies to find out.

John Powell made some of the most gorgeous OSTs I’ve ever listened to in my life. One of my personal favorites from the first httyd film is “Dragon Training.” If you’re listening to more OSTs I have to recommend “Eda’s Requiem” from the Owl House by Brad Breeck (he posts much of his work on his TH-cam, if you do listen to his Eda’s Requiem music suite you want to start listening at 13:34), or if you’re still in the John Powell mood, “Po Finds The Truth” by Powell and Hans Zimmer is gorgeous and has so many great moments

i grew up with movies like hercules and the little mermaid and so many other classic animations but How to Train Your Dragon is my favorite by a land slide and this score and how they reprise it for each film is how they do it. I get chills and I can literally watch the first scene with it in my head playing as it goes on. I can literally feel the soundtrack and I do not have any other way to explain it. tbh, to really understand this song you need to listen to the music throughout the whole film and watch the scene this piece is from. It's a blend of the two main characters' themes, both of which have been peppered through different pieces throughout the whole film but never together like this.

I am OBSESSED with How To Train Your Dragon. It all started on October 16, 2010. My parents rented How To Train Your Dragon from BlockBuster, and I had no input on their DVD selection. We started the movie and it was okay at the start, the trailers didn't sell it for me...but then we got to the Forbidden Friendship scene. By the end of that scene, I was SOLD!!! I think it was a mix of John Powell's score and the animation and the feelings Hiccup and Toothless were feeling during that scene, but it's such a good franchise, and it's the best franchise, in my opinion! If you haven't watched the movies (How To Train Your Dragon, How To Train Your Dragon 2, and How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World) yet, I guarantee you'll enjoy them! :)

This movie has a Viking origin to it so I imagine Sweden, Denmark and Norway have ties to the music here, though to me it sounds more Scottish. The plot is that the Vikings fought dragons in a bitter rivalry, and the most dangerous of them was injured by the protagonist Hiccup, they ended up bonding after a failed attempt to kill it. This song plays when Hiccup tries to fly with the dragon after making a replaced tail wing for it, he tryings getting used to manually adjusting the tail wing and at one point falls after losing the instructions, great movie amazing piece

I highly recommend "loosing mom" from how to train your dragon 2 it feels like what heartache would sound like, to me at least

Toothless almost has more in common with a griffon than a dragon. He’s got the same size/anatomy and the same cat-like/bird-like appearance (on top of the obvious dragon powers)

I remember seeing this in the theater multiple times and this scene sets the movie apart in such an amazing way. I still get goosebumps just hearing it.

I'm going to John Powell's concert at the end of the month, and oh lord, I don't know how I'm gonna handle all the emotions from this and other How To Train Your Dragon themes.

Test Drive is the most artistically crafted pieces in all of cartoon history I'm not even joking.

I don't wanna sound like a dork but this song is introducing the bond between Hiccup and Toothless: at first it's very intense, unknown, what's happening? Then slowly both of their themes collide into one once they finally learn to rely on each other. I love HTTYD

This and cars were the two movies I would watch almost DAILY as a kid. Anytime I hear this song it’s like an entire tsunami of nostalgia hits me and gives me a nice warm feeling.

The main theme of short notes gives the thrill of flight, nothing's supporting you beneath your feet. The drums and loud bass wind intruments spread out the wide landscape before you. The smooth uplifting melody is the freedom of flight, and the peace of mind of owning the whole sky to yourself.

The score for this film reminds me a lot of the score for Ice Age 2 (in particular, the track Mammoths.)

This movies score didn't have to go as hard as it did but I'm so glad it did.
Also I loved watching you get more and more in love with the track.

The HTTYD soundtrack is inspired by Celtic music. The entire soundtrack(from all three movies) is worth a listen.

I've loved these movies ever since I saw the first one when I was a kid and by god the music is such a huge part of that. Like, when I'm watching stuff or playing something the music actually demanding as much attention as the visuals is a rare thing, but this is one of those times. If you're interested, I would also say Where No One Goes from the second movie is very much worth a listen.

This is the true power of a good movie soundtrack. Without it, a scene can be great: animation, timing, voice acting et cetera. With fitting music, though? It becomes *amazing*

Fun fact, the score for How To Train Your Dragon makes heavy use of leitmotifs, you can actually watch the opening and hear all of the leitmotifs that is going to be used for the rest of the movie/score except one.
