This movie has a follow-up series "Race to the edge" that really builds up all the supporting characters. And the second movie tells what happened to his mother, and why Stoic hates dragons so much.
Am i the only one with this show that found the 3rd movie really sad? Well “sad” doesn’t really describe it that well, but i don’t know what other word to use. Like i know it’s just a kids movie and it’s not real, but i just spent so much time watching httyd so i’ve got very attached to all of the characters. And i know it’s the best for Toothless to leave and stuff and at the end, when Hiccup had his kids on a boat, it was just a really big and sudden time jump i just burst out crying 😭
There was not a single time when i haven't cried when toothless allows hiccup to place his handbon his head. That acceptance scene hits home every single time. I love everything about this movie. Absolute gem
Fun fact, when Hiccup tried to touch toothless and the drsgon put a rejection face, this was an animation error, but the idea of this and then accepting when Hiccup close his eyes was so loved that they keep it that way
Because Hiccup was born as a scrawny, skinny noodle and doesn't have the muscular Viking physique, he is unable to truly defend herself like everyone in his village. This always led him into trouble like what happened earlier. Everyone has to step in and save him, like what his dad did, and that always tires them cause they had to babysit a fishbone while fighting off dragons. Some dragons are based on real-life animals and objects to create their behavior, characteristics, and features. Like Toothless, the Night Fury is based on cats, black panthers, bats, manta rays, and a jet fighter. A Deadly Nadder on birds due to their bird-like movements and behavior Toothless and other Night Furies have retractable teeth that may protect them from being damaged whenever they fire their plasma blast
I've said it before and I'll say it again The entire sequence of the duo losing control, plumetting to their deaths only to regain control and fly as one unit with that Iconic score in the background? will never cease to send goosebumps throughout my body
1:15 Actually the tv series reveals his name is actually Horrendous Haddock III, Hiccup is a nickname for a kid who's small and weak. Also the TV series is so worth seeing.
HTTYD is one of the best franchises of all time. Hiccup is a phenomenal character, and Toothless is basically a glorified mix of a black cat and a cute puppy. If you loved this, HTTYD2 & 3 are absolutely amazing. This franchise was my childhood. Easily, the best part of this franchise: THE MUSIC. The composer was John Powell, and he actually worked with Hans Zimmer for the Kung Fu Panda soundtrack.
They are amazing movies but I think they inadvertently screwed up the messaging for the 3rd movie by trying to relate the fictional world to the real world.
@@colin1739 Dude Test Dive always gives me goosebumps and makes me cry because it is so beautiful and gets your heart pumping like you are running into battle. John Powell in my eyes in the absolute best composer and music maker in history.
"test flight" is the greatest original score for an animated movie of all time its two themes in one. while hiccup and toothless but work indepently their respective theme plays. and when the cheat sheet is almost lost we lose both themes and its replaced by chaos. when they finally work together we hear the ICONIC HTTYD theme we all know which is toothless and hiccups respective themes played together in harmony
14:12 The reason why Hiccup brings Toothless to the village is that when they get blown down while testing the tail, the safety rope gets stuck so they're stuck to one another. So they have to go to the village to get some tools.
The TV shows are really what allow the supprting cast to develop and have much stronger personalities than the movies allow, but even with their flaws, i love this series so so much
I think hiccup is in a coma for a while, so when he wakes up and sees the people and dragon become friends. it's probably already weeks after the fight with the red death, and you should watch httyd 2 and 3 too. It's really a great movie.
17:10 you have a brawny strong headed father and a brainy son. Usually the mother in the situation would help the communication but since she’s no longer with them there’s no translator although Gobber does try to help.
This film quickly became my favorite animated film and is probably my favorite film overall. I can watch it over and over again. The 2 sequels are excellent as well, but this one just touched me in a special way.
One thing I have yet to see anyone point out is that the reason the whole village changed so quickly because all the vikings on the nest island probably had to take and fly all the dragons back to Berk since most of not all the ships were destroyed. The only question I have is how toothless made it back since his tail fin was destroyed. 🤔
This was one of the best trilogy films I've sat through. While the third lacks a little of the magic that was present in the first and second, it still was solid entertainment, imo.
This film series is really close to me. Watched the first one with my wife shortly after we first met, watched the second when she was pregnant with our oldest daughter and the third with my daughter and my wife when she was pregnant with my youngest daughter. Goes without saying we have a fair few plushies for it about the house.
Something I've noticed that gets glossed over (mostly because the movie itself glossed over it - in fact the movie never once even mentions it) is that Toothless lost his tail BECAUSE Hiccup shot him down. Think about it....Toothless was flying just fine until Hiccup found him. Once Hiccup finds Toothless his tail is just suddenly maimed??? If it had been maimed before or was a birth defect (a theory someone once told me) then how was he flying with NO problems until Hiccup shot him down??? That could ALSO be one of the reasons Toothless growls at hiccup after getting cut free of the ropes. Toothless yelled at Hiccup for shooting him down.
I thought this was blatantly obvious lmao. Do people really think it wasn’t Hiccup’s fault? I’m pretty sure he even admits to it in the next movie at one point when someone asks about the makeshift tail fin Toothless has.
@@a_fine_edition2746 I don't doubt that you are right; all I'm saying is that this movie doesn't actually even try to explain WHY Toothless has a part of his tail missing. It's just part of the movie.
@@patrickcromwell7554I felt like it was pretty much implied considering Hiccup deduces that Toothless can't fly away because he's missing the tail fin. The movie doesn't have to spell it out, but I feel like it's very much confirmed when he says "I did this" upon seeing Toothless shot down and refusing to kill him.
@@a_fine_edition2746 I don't disagree; but I have seen people ask: "How is it Toothless can't fly NOW, when Hiccup shot him down from flying before?" Just in case someone was watching and not really paying attention, I just wanted that to be put out there.
This movie hits me hard every time. The father son relationship here hit very close to home for me. My dad was a big athletic man and Excel is one of my favorite games. We found way to make it work. Toothless is also so much like my cat that I feel this studio owes me money for using his likeness.
Take note of how the animation develops w/ each film. Everything about these 3 films make them my fave 3 since 2000. Happy to see you checking them out!
Oh I never thought I'd see this one on here, not going to lie the second I saw it my childhood flashed before my eyes. Good times man...good times, ones that I will forever treasure to this day. Really hope you watch the rest of the movies too, you'll love them I promise!
This movie captured my heart back when it was in cinemas. The story is so heartwarming and the musical score is such a masterpiece. Definitely one of my top 3 animated films of all time. There was a Netflix series that sort of dove deeper into the adjustment the people of Berk went through adapting to life with dragons and fleshed out the supporting cast of characters which I thought was a good series, although not really a must watch. The other movies are really good too, hope you get to watch them both soon!
Still a massive hit and probably my favorite animated movie trilogy. The music, the characters, the story, everything about this franchise means so much to me. ❤❤❤
This is probably my favourite animated movie of all time, glad your watching this trilogy. The visual quality holds up, and only gets better with each film, the characters are super well written and the films are full of heart-warming moments.
I absolutely adore this movie and hugely regret not getting to see it in the cinema, I can only imagine how that flying scene would have felt in IMAX or even 4DX. I love all of these movies and eventually plan to watch the cartoon series as well but this first movie is and likely always will be one of my all time favourite movies. Also you're 100% right about the dragons basically being huge cats as that is EXACTLY true, Toothless's movements were based on recordings of one of the animators own pet cats which is both hilarious and adorable.
A lot of people will say that the next two movies are even better. I disagree. The animation does get (even) better, but I still think that HTTYD I is the GOAT. THAT being said!... The next two are just AMAZING (simply illustrating how highly I regard the first), rounding out a FANTASTIC trilogy and are absolute "MUSTS". Please react to them (to the trilogy) asap. 😊❤️
Some more animated movies I'd like to recommend . Up . Coco . Klaus . Luca . Raya and the last dragon . Encanto . Madagascar . Moana I am sure you'll love watching it and all the movies have emotions, comedy etc etc
Answers to your questions/comments made in the video: - Hiccup's voice actor is Jay Baruchel. - Other voice actors: Astrid = America Ferrera, Snotlout = Jonah Hill, Fishlegs = Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Ruffnut = Kristen Wiig, Tuffnut = TJ Miller, Stoick = Gerard Butler, Gobber = Craig Ferguson, Spitelout (background character, Snotlout's dad) = David Tennant. - Monstrous Nightmares (the ones that set themselves on fire) have a sort of gel/coating that is flammable, but also protects their skin, which is how they're okay setting themselves on fire. I believe the gel is made from their own saliva. Also most dragons are fireproof/heat resistant to an extent, especially Stoker Class dragons like the Nightmares and Terrible Terrors - you'll see later in the movie how Hiccup comments that the little Terrible Terrors are "not so fireproof on the inside". - Good catch! Hiccup is, indeed, left handed :) he's technically ambidextrous, being seen handling weapons and other things with both hands, but he seems to favour his left hand and DreamWorks has officially classified him as left handed. - Hiccup's mother was carried off by dragons when he was a baby, and Stoick never fell for anyone else (and didn't want to, either). - "So we know who the bully is, got it." Yeah, Snotlout's a bully. Fun fact: he's also Hiccup's cousin. It's unclear in the movies which parents are related, but most likely Stoick and Spitelout aren't brothers because they have different surnames (Stoick and Hiccup Haddock, and Spitelout and Snotlout Jorgenson). - 10:50 Toothless drew a (rather abstract) picture of Hiccup! Because Hiccup drew a picture of him! It's very adorable. - I won't spoil it too much for you in case you want to look into the tv shows, but dragons don't like eels because they make them sick. - Astrid's just mad at Hiccup because she's confused and frustrated. She doesn't know how Hiccup all of a sudden got so good, and she's been trying and training to kill dragons her whole life and is GOOD at it, but all of a sudden Hiccup is better than her. Once she finds out how, she finds peace with it, no longer having to wonder how the heck he's doing it. - He brought Toothless to the village because he didn't have a choice; when they crashed during that mock flying lesson, the clip attaching him to Toothless' harness bent and he couldn't get free from it. - Stoick and Hiccup are very different people, they have very little in common and therefore they both just kind of do their own things, not to mention Stoick is often busy with official business since he's the chief. So no, they don't really chat that often unfortunately. Their main similarity is their stubbornness, lol. Although we don't get to see much of it, I like to think they fixed that after this movie; you can certainly see their relationship improve as time goes on. - Lol, Toothless is very sassy, he waits for an apology from both Astrid and Stoick before warming up to them. - "He got the girl already?" It certainly seems like that with the amount of times she kisses him, but they don't actually officially end up being a couple until they're about 18 (they're 15 in this movie). - I'll leave a list of all of the connecting movies and tv shows in this franchise in the comments. As a big fan, I'd naturally recommend you watch them all lol, but definitely watch the other two main movies. Out of the rest of the content, if you only watch one thing, I highly recommend the short film "Gift of the Night Fury", preferably between movies 1 and 2 since that's when it's set, but definitely before the 3rd movie because the events of GOTNF are briefly referenced in movie 3.
Movies: - How to Train Your Dragon (✔) - How to Train Your Dragon 2 (set 5 years after the events of the first movie; Hiccup and the gang are now 20 (19 for the twins)) - How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World (set 1 year after the events of the second movie) Short movies: - Book of Dragons; Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon; Gift of the Night Fury (unclear what order these are set in, but all 3 are set around the same time, a short time after the events of the first movie) - Dawn of the Dragon Racers (set about 2 years after movie 1) - Homecoming (set sort of during movie 3 - I won't say more or I'll give spoilers lol) TV shows: - Dragons: Riders of Berk (set shortly after movie 1) - Dragons: Defenders of Berk (set immediately after Riders, essentially season 2 of Riders) - Dragons: Race to the Edge (set during the roughly 3 years before movie 2) - Dragons: The Nine Realms (set about 1,300 years after the events of the main series, focusing on Hiccup's descendant Tom Kullerson. Because of the time jump and other things, a lot of people understandably aren't fans of Nine Realms; I personally enjoy it, but I can understand people's criticism of it.)
The voices you recognised were Hiccup and Snotlout right? So, Jay Baruchel as Hiccup and Jonah Hill as Snotlout. Hiccup tried subtle, it didn't work, the reason they were all so accepting by the end was that they had basically been smacked collectively over the head with the facts by seeing the big dragon etc. It was a bold move for Astrid yes, but, it fits her no?
I slept on this movie for so long. Thought it looked a bit too "kiddy" for me, but then, years later, I caught it one day on HBO when there was nothing else on and absolutely loved it. The other 2 are also great!
The first dragon showed quick trust. But after the village wiped out the one that they were enslaved to, it made sense that they would befriend each other. It may have been seen as a nest, but the large one looked like it consumed some of them at times.

4 days late but VKunia make sure to watch the other 3 shows, riders and defenders of Berk, two shows that take place right after the movie, and “race to the edge”, but that one is optional bc it takes place before the second movie, but has events and characters that are shown from the 2nd movie, but I would recommend to watch it before the 2nd movie

By the way, it did take some time for the village to become accustomed to the dragons, but you only learn that through the TV show.
This movie has a follow-up series "Race to the edge" that really builds up all the supporting characters. And the second movie tells what happened to his mother, and why Stoic hates dragons so much.
Don’t forget before that there are some others like Defenders Of Berk and The short Christmas movie Gift Of The Night Fury
Is it hard to believe, that this is my favorite animated movie?
Backgrounds, colors, attention to details, music, just mesmerizing!
A Deadly Nadder on birds due to their bird-like movements and behavior
Toothless and other Night Furies have retractable teeth that may protect them from being damaged whenever they fire their plasma blast
A part I hardly see a streamer show is Astrid calling Hiccup out on using "wouldn't instead of couldn't"
Whats crazy tho is that Astrid, hiccup, snoutlought, fishlegs, and the twins ruffnought and tougthnut are all 15 in the first movie!!
You are going to LOVE this series. This is going to be so much fun!
Wish i'd see more reactors reacting to the TV series ♥️🙏 its almost non-existent and i've used every keyword if someone reacted to them 😂
@@JoshuaG Exactly
I've said it before and I'll say it again
The entire sequence of the duo losing control, plumetting to their deaths only to regain control and fly as one unit with that Iconic score in the background?
will never cease to send goosebumps throughout my body
The Books are also good childrens books.
Test Drive is probably the best song from the entire first movie, still gives me goosebumps to this day.
"test flight" is the greatest original score for an animated movie of all time
its two themes in one. while hiccup and toothless but work indepently their respective theme plays. and when the cheat sheet is almost lost we lose both themes and its replaced by chaos. when they finally work together we hear the ICONIC HTTYD theme we all know which is toothless and hiccups respective themes played together in harmony
14:12 The reason why Hiccup brings Toothless to the village is that when they get blown down while testing the tail, the safety rope gets stuck so they're stuck to one another. So they have to go to the village to get some tools.
The TV shows are really what allow the supprting cast to develop and have much stronger personalities than the movies allow, but even with their flaws, i love this series so so much
Race to the edge is peak httyd content and is the best part of the canon franchise timeline
You’re cat is not annoying he is adorable. This series is so good. Jay Baruchel does the voice of Hiccup.
I was 8-9 when I saw this movie in 2010 and now i'm 21. I feel old and it feels good to have this in my life
This is basically a disability awareness movie. I love it for that reason
Toothless always forgives people who are sorry. it is a clear pattern
the *Im gonna say random shit and pretend like im interested* vibe is strong
I love the flip between pests during the intro, and pets for the outro
One of, if not thee best animated trilogies out there, love you content V! Happy Hump Day 🐪
"YOU'RE NOT MY SON" ALWAYS GETS ME
This film quickly became my favorite animated film and is probably my favorite film overall. I can watch it over and over again. The 2 sequels are excellent as well, but this one just touched me in a special way.
Great choice. It's an amazing film.
"The only down side is the pests. We have dragons"
"The only upside is the pets. We have dragons"
I love all these movies, one of the rare times when the sequels actually hold up really well to the original. Definitely worth seeing the whole story!
If you imagine Toothless with whiskers, he can become a black cute cat.
This series is so great and seeing it in 3d was extra great. Those flying sequences are awesome in the format
Toothless is also so much like my cat that I feel this studio owes me money for using his likeness.
the scene where he loses his cheat sheet and they are falling still gives me goose bumps every single time
(At 13:40) Hiccup doesn't see it, but he's kind of upstaging her.
5:47 love how Toothless here accepts his fate, then when Hiccup releases him, he gives him the look that says "you could have killed me, why?"
Take note of how the animation develops w/ each film. Everything about these 3 films make them my fave 3 since 2000. Happy to see you checking them out!
Ice age is also a nice example of it ✌️
Yeah, all the other animated franchises look the same every movie. Toy Story, perfect example.
How to train your dragon was my favourite movie growing up and really made my childhood. Still watch it often
I recommend reading the book series after this movie.
A lot of stuff was changed from the source material, and I consider the books darker in tone.
First movie made you cry happy tears but the second one will make you cry sad tears.
Agreed
Don't spoil it bro😅
No spolers please.
And the third gives you both
Or you could just let her go in without expectations. Just saying.
Ironically it's "How to Train Your Human." Just like with a cat. Speaking of, I sometimes miss my cat's annoying me, now that he is gone.
One thing that I see a lot of ripple never mention to much about is the scores the httyd series has one of the best soundtracks in any movie series
the entire dragons migrating into berk is furthered in defenders of berk, and how they enter the mutual dragon and viking getting along bit.
😊❤️
I'm not going to lie, this movie seems so up your alley, I'm shocked you haven't seen it!! Love your content! ❤
(At 11:05) to me, when I first saw this movie and saw Toothless, Toothless look like a newt, most likely an axolotl, with wings.
Some more animated movies I'd like to recommend

Coco

I am sure you'll love watching it and all the movies have emotions, comedy etc etc
15:36 - this music cue is... indescribable.
The cat meowing when thoothless on screen make it so good like he is meowing haha. He is like a cat with those cat eyes and the attitude
Answers to your questions/comments made in the video:
- Hiccup's voice actor is Jay Baruchel.
Movies:
- How to Train Your Dragon (✔)
- How to Train Your Dragon 2 (set 5 years after the events of the first movie; Hiccup and the gang are now 20 (19 for the twins))
- How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World (set 1 year after the events of the second movie)
Short movies:
- Book of Dragons; Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon; Gift of the Night Fury (unclear what order these are set in, but all 3 are set around the same time, a short time after the events of the first movie)
- Dawn of the Dragon Racers (set about 2 years after movie 1)
- Homecoming (set sort of during movie 3 - I won't say more or I'll give spoilers lol)
TV shows:
- Dragons: Riders of Berk (set shortly after movie 1)
- Dragons: Defenders of Berk (set immediately after Riders, essentially season 2 of Riders)
- Dragons: Race to the Edge (set during the roughly 3 years before movie 2)
- Dragons: The Nine Realms (set about 1,300 years after the events of the main series, focusing on Hiccup's descendant Tom Kullerson.
One of the best movie scores ever created! Makes the movie(s) an absolute highlight!
This series was a big big surprise for me I watched the first one when I was a young lad and loved it, watched the movies as they came out and have seen them a few times over the years and also got into some of the animated shows they had, it’s a great series and I enjoy it quite a bit hopefully you can too!
I watched this movie when I was 6, best movie I've ever seen, best soundtrack I've ever listened to. As a non emotional guy this movie still brings me tears.
This is one of my favorite movies, as it makes you feel so much. No piece of animation has made me feel as squeamish as when Hiccup at Toothless’s barf fish.
The movies and shorts are all excellent in showing how the characters grow and progress.
I was absolutely shocked and excited to see this on your channel. I friggin LOVE these movies. Not gonna lie, even tho I truly love your channel, the movies/shows you've covered lately have been a bit hit or miss for me personally. So again, seeing this come up made me smile ear to ear! So glad you're doing these movies! I know you'll love them and they may possibly even change your life! I rewatch the whole trilogy at least once a year and it always gives me whatever I need at the time. So cheers V! And enjoy! I'll be following right along with you!😉👍
Wow! if you liked this, enough to get emotional. OMG!! You'll love the sequel even more. Great reaction as always.
VKunia could be a live action Astrid!
I cannot wait for you to continue this journey!! One of the best series of movies!!
Not only one of my favorite movies, but one of my favorite film scores.
YES, John Powell did such an amazing job with this trilogy!
LOVE your reaction.. enjoy the rest of the series good way of showing acceptance.. your cat loves you...
One of the greatest scores in animation hist- scratch that.. Film History.. Saw it in theaters in 3d in 2010.. ..spectacular in every sense of the word..
Vkunia is so cute..🙈 I love how she reacts and she almost cries at every videos😶🌫💙
PLEASE WATCH THE ENTIRE TRILOGY! IT IS THE BEST EVER MADE. but I'm soooo happy you finally are watching these. My favorite movies.
this movie is based on the first book which i loved as a kid, and when i watched the movie in theaters i remember thinking that they left a *lot* out and had to change some things which is why it feels a bit rushed. its still a great movie and i enjoy it to this day!
Toothless is like a big flying cat. Actually many of his animation movements were based on cat and dog movements.
One of the best animated movies. The score in particular is amazing.
Top 5 movie soundtrack of all time
The best animated trilogy I've ever seen, this franchise never fails to break and warm my heart.
You should cosplay as Astrid. The looks and Energy with you both are quite similar 😂
I totally see it. She's gorgeous and will pull it off.
The character that made that sarcastic comment towards Hiccup his name is Snotlout and he's played by Joan Hill and Stoick is voiced by the one and only Gerard Butler and Hiccup is voiced Jay Baruchel
With The Lion King (1994), this movie is the only one I went to see 3 times in theater. That's saying something about how much I loved it. And the second one is even better. I'm looking forward to your reaction to it.
