    This was absolutely WONDERFUL to see Frankie! Thank you ESPECIALLY for calling attention to that not enough people talk about the fact that it takes TIME to build a working relationship with spirits, of any kind. Just as you mentioned about your own experiences, I have three particular spirits that I've been either around and/or working with for multiple years now; and that doesn't include my three deities that I have statues of. And not enough people talk about setting down house rules either!!! So thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing that up as well! Every single time I have any sort of spirit that wants to even step foot in my abode, whether temporarily or permanently, there are rules set down. You don’t touch this, ask about this, please don't do this, if you need blah please ask, and so on. And I have YET to have any spirits that take issue with that, thankfully. It is SOOOO important, because the really trickster-like ones absolutely can and WILL find the loopholes and utilize them.

    Don't introduce non-native or invasive plants.

    That face you make when Frankie says "house rules" and you tv-flashback to when you forgot to set your house rules...
    Note to self: when petitioning Nike for your brother to win his football game, you must specify that she's NOT allowed to break his clavicle to stop him from playing in a game they had no chance of winning.
    But seriously -- thank you so much for this video! I know you said it's shorter than usual, but honestly we're just happy to have the chance to hear you talk about something you clearly care a lot about. Your passion for spirit work shows and makes your videos so engaging!

    This might sound a little obvious but… how do you set house rules?… 😂 do you just speak them aloud? Recite them to every new spirit? Set up a physical list of rules? Or is it just all about intention and I can do any number of things as long as it feels right for me??

    • @ChaoticWitchAunt
      @ChaoticWitchAunt  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Absolutely not obvious! It depends on what you would like to do. I like having a list around, or just being super clear when they come in and do something I don't like! It's 100% up to you as a practitioner.

      What’s an example of a rule?

    • @DancewithWindandFlame
      @DancewithWindandFlame 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Great questions. An example of a house rule would be something VERY specific, very detailed, to keep as many loopholes at bay as possible, and to give the exact intention of what you mean by the rule. But there are also times, keep in mind, where there are blanket house rules where you dont have to be AS specific because those rules also cut off loopholes. So one of mine, for example, of a very specific rule, would be: if it is absolutely ANYTHING in, on, or around within a (say) 5 foot radius of my apothecary stand (and I would show them exactly where I meant and what particular piece of furniture either by picture or visualization and projecting that visualization toward them) you do NOT touch it in any way, shape, form, or manner, without asking AND receiving a VERBAL approval first, specifically from ME and no one else. This then prevents them from messing with my herbs and such as usually my important Crafting items are within a set distance of that piece of furniture. That ALSO makes it where not just anyone can grant permission to mess with things.

    • @DancewithWindandFlame
      @DancewithWindandFlame 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      An example of a blanket house rule I use as well would be: do not touch, mess with, move, or manipulate in any way, shape, form, or manner ANYTHING AT ALL that is in the confines of what is considered my Mom's bedroom or closet without first asking and expressly receiving verbal permission from HER only.
      This may still seem overly specific because in some ways it is. But in other ways, like the dimensions, the area affected by the spirit, the items in question, and such, are not specified but generalized. It's not a diary or grimoire, or a dog's favorite toy. It is an entire room and closet and anything contained therein. That is the blanket portion. You can do a blanket rule in general, actually, similar to this for the entire house if you really wanted.

    My only problem (and it’s quite niche) is that I don’t really have any ancestry to fall back on? I mean, I technically do, but ancestry feels so far away and disconnected. TLDR both of my parents were adopted. So it’s like… where do I go from here, yknow? Obv this isn’t me complaining or saying this video is bad, quite the opposite. I think this video is amazing! I just am putting this comment here to see if anyone has the same or similar circumstances as I do and/or advice. Thank you for another great vid, Frankie! 👏❤

      i’m in the same boat! i’m curious as to what my ancestors practiced, so i have been using sites like myheritage and ancestry to track as far back as i can to get a general gist of what it was but for me especially its kind of like the more i find out the more off put i am by my family history lol

      The hearth witch has a great video about this. "Ancestors" doesnt have to mean specifically your blood relatives. It could be people/celebrities/things that you feel you have a soul connection with. You could start from there. Also doing research about different plants/animals is also considered doing spirit work. Its basically all about what and who you feel most connected to (:

    ty for thisvid! also idk if youll see this comment but anyone who wants to give some advice maybe reply? im pretty new
    but how should i approach communicating w a loved one who passed as an infant? im referring to my younger sister who died when i was young and i'd like to simply check in on her spirit and see if shes at peace considering that the nature of her death wasnt exactly what i'd imagine was easy. i dont want to have her help me w spells, i'd simply like to find a way to communicate w her and get to know her as i was only a toddler when she passed, and also im just curious and would like her to be my introduction to working w spirits.
    thx!

    I feel stuck when it comes to spirit work because my ancestors were/are so problematic. (Like, card-carrying member of the KKK level problematic.) Obviously those aren't people I'd care to venerate or work with. I want my practice to distance me from my heritage, not bring me closer to it. But it's cultural appropriation to try to work with other people's heritage. So yeah, I'm stuck. Maybe I should try plant spirits, huh?

  • @oliviahills7532
    @oliviahills7532 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

    absolutely agree with the fact that my practice also grew so much when i started working with spirits that were connected to me already or made sense through my lineage. i don’t have as much access to my families traditional practices as i live outside of the country and am not fluent in the language but just connecting with plants that have been used a lot for healing in my family i noticed such a difference in the strength of the relationship compared to other plants i had tried using in the past.

  • @Eos_Galvus
    @Eos_Galvus 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

    All of this is helpful because I'm slowly working out my ancestor veneration and at least two of my ancestors actively like making sure I know when they're dropping in to check in (Both also know I'm working on my practice, though mine are chill, not everyone's will be), and I'm still trying to figure out things to bring those aspects into my life. I do, however, notice one thing that might help if you're a bit willing to do some research. If you can't find plants from your ancestral region, for whatever reason, try looking into local stones there. Not fancy crystals but rocks - sandstone, granite, limestone, ETC. Sometimes you can find local versions in gravel or in nature that you can adopt. I have an ancestor from Wales and I found my way into a piece of sandstone petrified wood, and he really likes that. Always try communicating first, but it's a worthy option and often, very affordable.

    Love this video, my ancestor work has become a huge part of my practice and have a large ancestor altar in my living room. Most people just think it's a gallery wall and that I like candles if they come over. My biggest spirit work tip is acknowledging important dates for my closest ancestors and spiritual allies. My great Aunt Inez is tickled that I sing her happy birthday each year and spend extra time playing with my cat to honor her. I put out coffee for my Mom on her death anniversary and paint my nails for my grandmothers as she was a beautician.

    I'm very new to witchcraft but I feel like it's really important to remember that in between the signs and moments of major contact there will be quiet moments where not much is really happening and that's okay, it doesn't mean you've failed or that you won't hear from them later.

    First I want to start off by saying love the video! ❣️ I’m pretty new to all this and still trying to figure out my path, but I’m not really sure how to get things rolling. I really want to connect with ancestral/folk magic, but it’s a bit hard for me (and other poc who’s ancestry isn’t documented) to find our roots. If anyone has any tips or anything that would be very great!
    p.s sorry if this comment is written terribly, I have a very hard time putting thoughts into words.

    I treat my spirits like my ancestors and Deities as intimate relationships . I put love and dedication of my time . I don’t just talk to them when I have time ,I always put time to talk with them and involved them in my life . But I already made a contract that they can go whenever they want ,they are not tied to me and I’m not tied to them . Someday ,when it’s time to go they can go and I can go as well but as of now I treat them all as my family . I don’t take advantage of them but I ask favors BUT I always say I don’t force them to do anything . BUT I will respect and give them gifts if I can afford it . I observe if you respect your spirits or deities or ancestors you will get the same love and respect from them . They will alway there for you and you will feel that . They won’t hurt you or do something to make you anxious . If ever someday ,I feel scared or anxious the energy will not from them ,it probably a different spirits that I don’t call at all . And it’s also true that don’t make promises that you can’t make . That is why I alway tell them that for now this is the only thing I can give and I’m sorry ,someday I might give it and they understand.
    Thank you for sharing lots of things !

    Frankie so I have a question, so I’m in high school color guard ( flag and rifle spinners in marching band ) and I don’t have a lot of time for witchy shit anymore, but I’m an animist and in color guard we kind of have this superstition that our rifles are their own person ( we name them,assign genders or lack thereof, and we talk to them ) also my rifle is named after the Greek goddess of don. So I was wondering could I work with the spirit of my rifle and if so how do I work with spirits of inanimate objects ?

    I dont understand when someone says a spirt comes tk you says they wanna work with you. How do you know? For those who do not have mediumship abilities, how do you recognize that a spirit is present, coming to you, wanting to work with you etc? Also if you choose a spirit or deity, how do you know whether they accept or reject working with you?

    • @ChaoticWitchAunt
      @ChaoticWitchAunt  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s going to be different for everyone. This isn’t necessarily something I can tell you will 100% be the case 100% of the time, but for me working with a plant and having a lot of positive changes/feeling like I am supported in my every need through working with that plant, receiving “signs” when asking if this spirit wants to work with you, gut feelings through intuition.

    Always cool to learn more and better tips, being a bit new to Italian American folk practices!
    Oddly enough, the saint I've been working with and grown super close to (St. John the Baptist), I really have no recollection if my ancestors ever petitioned him and I have a vivid memory over my Nonna's devotions. It just happened, basically (long story short). but there is a church dedicated to him in my Nonni's hometown , even though he's not the patron saint of the area.
    There has been some minor nudges from St. Anthony, who definitely was a big deal to my Nonna, but I haven't felt too much of a spark? i know I've always been a spiritual rebel, but is that bad? lol
