Thank you so much for this video! She started right up after replacing the crank sensor!!! Amazing. We have the exact same truck and we are so grateful that you posted this.
Thanks for the video. While you managed to do this procedure in 11 minutes and 18 seconds, it took me 2 hours! Half of that time was spent trying to get my light positioned so it wouldn't get in the way, the other half was spent trying to find the right length combination between the socket and extension. I would like to point out that in some cases the metal retaining clip can, and should, be removed instead of pushing it in to release the plug (I have a 2001 Ranger, so maybe yours is different).
Bless your heart for making this vid. Went out to start my 99 4.0 ford ranger.. 4x4.. Cranks, won't start, I just went through all the fuses... /relays.. and as far as I could tell good to go there. BUT I have no way of testing spark by myself/fuel pump... That being said your vid gives me a great place to start... So again thanks for making it! IF that sensor is the problem (Crosses fingers).. which as old as my truck is, it very well could be, I hope I can still find the sensor...
@@superiorracingchannel3368 I'm confused about something, in the vid, it seems like you said "You had no spark" when testing out the spark plug.... Was that bed editing, or was that a sign the "Crankshaft position sensor" was not working?
@@superiorracingchannel3368 Alright THANKS! For Clarifying. I Didn't know if that was a "slip of the tongue" or what. Can these sensors "fail intermittently?" Like sometimes they work? and sometimes they don't? BEFORE complete failure?
No need to pull a plug to look for spark. Just get an old or spare plug and wire, slap it on the coil and go. If you don't have that in your toolbox, you should. Thanks for the video....helped me narrow mine down.
Nicely done! After going through the diagnostic process of a no start situation, I’m probably going to try this. 04 stepside , 4 banger. Not very familiar with this little truck, but I may have a date with a crank position sensor. ( sister’s truck)
@@awesomewolf7197 it turns out my timing belt broke. Going to get both sensors replace while everything else gets fix . It's about time my 2000 ford ranger gets new parts and last a little longer.
Good video..👍🏾 What concerns me, once you removed the screws you didn’t squirt oil in the holes nor did you put grease on screws putting them back in place. That’s how we old school guys do it, always have youngsters
Just bought a 99 2wd 2.5l, same issue but didn't totally loose spark, seems really weak though cause it only start sometimes, going to get a sensor tomorrow and see if I have the same issue thank you

Thanks for the video. Would you explain the removal of the spark plug part, though? I'm not sure I understood what you were looking for. I'm assuming you plugged it back in.
If you have a good spare spark plug you don't have to pull one. But I did not. So I pulled one and put it in the spark plug wire to check for spark when you turn it over
@@superiorracingchannel3368 Wait, I think I understand what you're saying. You had a bad spark plug, so you went ahead and replaced it. So, you ended up changing the spark plug and the crankshaft position sensor. Is that correct?
@@Nicholas_Triumph_Thruxton the spark plug was good. I only pulled it so I could put it in the spark plug wire and check for spark as the engine is turning over.
I did everything like the video and it wound up being a little fuse looking black diode thing with an arrow on top . It's located in main fuse box under hood on the left side in the rear half of the fuse box back by the relays. It's a dealership item about $10.00, I bought 2 just in case. The diode blew out when I left the key in the on position whien I tightened down the battery clamps and touch the wrench on the body causing a short. You can't tell if it's blown unless you use a ohmeter.

Awesome! Glad I could help 👍
Thanks I did everything you did and my ranger been parked for over 4 years and started up.
That's awesome! Glad the video helped. Now you can drive your truck again 👍

Can these sensors "fail intermittently?" Like sometimes they work? and sometimes they don't? BEFORE complete failure?
@MRSketch09 Yes, it can be an intermittent issue. Hard starts will normally be an indicator. And I've also seen them fail without warning.
I’m having same issue! I think this might be the problem! Thanks for the video!

Very true! 👍
Thank You...Great Vid...I like the step by step break down and elimination...Truck Started right up....and Yes Hardest part is the Top Screw........👍🏻
Glad to hear that it worked for you 👍
I did the same test thanks to your video!! But that was not my problem! It turns out my timing belt broke. Hope to fix it this week.
Good camera work compared to others!!! Just fixed mine. Pain to reach but doable.
