- This video discusses how I was first able to breed Celestial Pearl Danios at home. I recently put together a much longer and more detailed walkthrough video that focuses on producing fry in large numbers and ensuring their survival to adulthood. Link below:

Thanks so much for watching and for the encouraging feedback. Check the Lowell's Fish Lab channel for more informative videos that might help you with this and other breeding endeavors.
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this video, consider subscribing to see future projects.
I like that you made a new video to amend this one! Both great of course
A fan of your channel. Great footage and perfect delivery. Before your videos i grab paper and pencil. Thanks
Very informative video. Nice to see someone shows fish while they talk instead of watching through the whole video of talking head haha. Keep it up 👍
Great dedication. Awesome video mate
Thank you so much! My breeder box is to be delivered on Saturday and my CPDs are ready and waiting!
Thanks for watching! I just posted a new (much more detailed) guide if you need more information
@@MakeMoreFish oh definitely! I can find it in your posts under your name I take it? Sorry, not sure of all the “TH-cam terms”
Yes you can, best of luck with your breeding!
For the overflow in those hang on boxes I use a bigger sponge that's wedged into place from front to back sort of like a matten filter. This makes for a much large surface area than wedging a small sponge in the overflow. I cut the sponge so that the bottom is also exposed so there are two surfaces for water to flow through and it takes a long time to clog.
Ya that's really smart. I've been using larger and larger pieces of foam extending into water to increase surface area. Haven't done a wall yet. I bet that never clogs
I also use sponge material thst way but I have had a few small bristlenose pleco fry get stuck in the sponge and die. Monitor the fry closely if you're breeding anything with spikes or barbles.
This is a very good video! Good work buddy!
Thanks!
One of my favourite Danios..I do call the Galaxy rosboras though.
I would so much rather call them galaxy rasboras. Cpd is so awkward to say in conversation
Awesome video man
thanks for the movie. where will I buy such a container - a cascade filter for young fish. Link??

@@MakeMoreFish thx 😃
What kind of submersible pump did you use here?
Very informative video!
How many weeks it took to reach a decent size ?
3 months or so. I tend to keep mine pretty cramped but they grow faster with more space
This was awesome footage you caught on video with them breeding and her dropping an egg. Absolutely loved it! I have 15 cpd’s but I’m not ready to try breeding them myself with the work I would need to do but it would be pretty cool to just find some fry in my tank in the future. The chances are probably pretty low though because I have neocaridina’s along with a smaller group of chili rasbora’s all in a 15g. Hoping to possibly upgrade to a 24g. What are the chances of any eggs surviving? I have a well established planted aquarium with Christmas moss too.
I've seen some fry survive only on what they can find in a planted tank. At some point they'll need tiny food though! It's always possible, I hope you see some. If you ever need more info there is another (much more detailed) video on my channel on how to raise the fry. I'll be honest though, they take more work than any other fish I've raised.
@@MakeMoreFish Thank you for the reply back. I just saw two other video’s of yours and commented. One was the more detailed regarding,..breeding the cpd’s. Love all the information given. Thank you. The ram fry was way to adorable 😍. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge on this topic.
@@MakeMoreFish continued... I have an IG friend that I talk back and fourth with through dm’s and she has been raising angel fry and had said, it’s a lot of work. Sooo, I believe you when you say it is. Must be and feel rewarding to though😀
The thing i do personaly is that i have small jars with pond water and pond dirt. I let those jars 100% outside all the year and a small ecoystem is created with time. When i have fries, i dump half of the water's jar with some algae and critters in the breeding box. It duplicates the ecosystem and fries can hunt micro critters etc in the algae/water
is it better to only put 2 in a breeder box? how often do you take them out of the breeder box and how often do you clean it? Lots of food falls to the bottom which im urging to take out daily, but then i have to take out the screen which only comes off when i also take out the danios.
You don't have to keep them in a breeding box for long. Feed them lots then let them produce eggs in the box for a day or two. Really though, breeding boxes are great for raising fry but not the best for producing and collecting eggs. You might look into "egg traps" or allowing the fish to spawn in a tank and then removing adults. Both would be more productive I think
Been binging all your videos! Why do you say the most productive environment would be a not incredibly not clean tank?
Algae and mulm accumulation help to build a population of microorganisms that fry can live on for a while (in addition to eating some of the algae). CPD fry can grow to about 3/8 of an inch eating only what grows naturally in a planted tank. After that point they start to really need more substantial food.
I have 7 CPD fry in a breeder that I caught from main tank. I havent seen anymore new fry since. I though they breed daily. I was expecting clock work. Guess I need to start napping the eggs? Maybe they are getting eaten and I just happen to have a miracle batch survive by fluke?
They do tend to spawn daily if they get enough food. I would suspect some fry are getting eaten. Might be worth trying some method of separating eggs from adults. You might get some more productivity that way. Good luck in any case
Awasome video!
Hey man hope you guys are all safe
can you do Kuhli Loaches?🙃
Just a little privacy thank you...
