I have a “Wingman” just like your “Sidekick” where I can see a very large gap between the cutters and I can honestly say it can’t cut anything, I’m really surprised Leatherman let’s their good name get trashed because of these cheap tools (unfortunately they’re not even cheap anymore - the “Rebar” is usually $10 more and is a thousand times better).
You're right, for slightly more expensive, you better buy a Rebar, and for less, a Gerber Truss! :)
Very well said, I think the Gerber Truss is ok but the scissors on mine work only half the time and the saw is very short, the rest of the tools on it are pretty good but I really would have liked replaceable cutters like on the Ganzo 302.
@@IamACanadian47 Certainly but I took the Truss for example, Ganzo G302, yes, good choice too and can be found for even cheaper than the Truss. On the other hand, these models are heavier and bigger. Leartherman commits its reputation even on its "low end" and all that it makes pay its mark on the models of this segment.
The Sidekick and Wingman are not good, agree. Wish they brought the Fuse back! I have a Knifeless Rebar, way better than Sidekick or Wingman.
Jan Odewald the knifeless Rebar is really sweet but I would really like a Rebar with one fewer flathead screwdrivers and instead a full size pair of scissors, I’d even take a combo knife to get the scissors. In my opinion the Supertool 300 is one of the best tools on a weight to tool ratio but I’m not sure why so many flathead screwdrivers are needed nowadays, Leatherman could’ve put the Wave bit adapter on it and the Rebar and eliminated 3 slots to allow for the scissors. In terms of the Fuse, I unfortunately am too late in getting into multitools so I missed that one ;(
I have a victorinox without scissors and a swisschamp. I live in Argentina, and I could get for the same price the Wingman and the Rebar. I'm thinking to buy the wingman because it has the scissors, pliers and one hand opening blade to carry with my victorinox sportsman. I don't think it's a good idea buy the rebar because I have almost the same tools in the swisschamp. what do you think about it?
Or you think a rebar + used micra it's a better choice?
There is a Rebar Knifeless, with scissors. The Wingman has a bad cutting pliers. What do you want to cut with the scissors? The best scissors on mini multi-tools are those of the Gerber Splice. The Rebar is better equipped than the Wingman and its pliers is more durable (replaceable cable cutter).
@@diezelle57 scissors for general stuff: paper, nylon, loosen threads, bags, etc.
The thing is I have with the swisschamp almost the same tools of the rebar. Here in Argentina we almost have no other options. That's why I'm between those two. That failure of cutting pliers shouldn't be repaired by Leatherman?

I agree that these cable cutters are not very good ... But ... leaving such a noticeable space between the blades of the cable cutter, (especially the one for hard cables), might not be a deliberate choice? Maybe to compensate for the wear of the pliers tip? If the blades of the cable cutter touched perfectly, once the tips of the pliers wear 0.1mm, the same tips would no longer close. I find it odd that it is a matter of low quality manufacturing tolerances. It's just a guess ... I hope I explained myself with Google translate :)
