Happened to me many times that the first ep of a c-drama was a let down. But this... I can't beleive how ridiculous the characters are. And ML is kind of an ice-face but also you can feel he is a warm hearted person. I'll definitely watch it till the end.
I love Chinese dramas and I had the same problems as you. Chinese dramas cater to a lot of audiences and the ones targeting to young teens are generally not in a good quality, so called idol dramas (because fans don't care, they only want handsome faces and cliche storylines). You have to really look and search for your genre. if you have a favourite chinese actor, you can focus on their works
