Nice work, captures the sound of the Matrix 6 well.

Great full sounds, Oberheim always had a distinctive sound.😎

Eats mixdowns like crazy, but that sound is very charismatic and awesome. :)

I almost had a Matrix 6 once..... my first vintage synth bought from eBay..... was apparently hit with a bat, thrown down a flight of stairs into a bear trap and shot with a 12 gauge. By the time I got it, it was almost completely destroyed...... more or less the same thing happened to me later on with Roland JX-8P! Fucking FedEx....

Oh thats sad :(.. Im kinda lucky till now with all my vintage pieces, of course there are always some issues, but nothing major like this. This demo is kinda simple (I did it only few days after arrival) and after some time with it and through learning curve I have to say its one of the most deep and expressive synths I have ever worked with (I use DX7 as controller with its great responsive dynamics and aftertouch).

thoughts on the matrix 6? I have the opportunity to buy one in decent looking condition for 850 USD.. i need a good polysynth right now and i love the sound of the 80s.

Im using it very regulary since I bought it, its amazingly versatile instrument with awesome, warm and very strong sound that can hardly be beaten even by many modern synths. You can have spot on sounds like classic OB-Xa/8 as well as all various crazy sound designs (sound programming is extremelly deep and versatile) + many expressive options (dynamics, aftertouch, mods, pedals). Only downside is programming though panel. There are some 3rd party programmers avaliable, but even they cannot cut though all that massive amount of avaliable parameters. I think 850$ for one in good shape is pretty fair deal for 2021.
I have used it pretty extensivelly in my recent album -> th-cam.com/video/YpS1XQNLJM8/w-d-xo.html
Any questions, feel free to ask.

@@DestroyER82 I am in a similar position to the other commenter. Every demo I've heard (perhaps except this one) seems to linger on pads and sweep sounds, but is the Matrix that you demo here just as good at other staple 80s polysynth sounds e.g. plucks, stabs, leads? And is the 6R that you use here basically equivalent to the keyboard Matrix 6?

@@80ssynthfan48 Greetings to you! Yes Matrix 6(r) (they are technically the same, only R is rack version) is absolutely awesome for leads / plucky and staby sounds. You have quite snappy envelopes as well as option to add additional click. For wild leads you can do OSC sync and VCF FM, really options are endless.
Demo of that here -> th-cam.com/video/g7Kp9SCB8Vg/w-d-xo.html
Main guitar/plucky sound is Matrix 6.
Feel free to ask anything else you find yourself curious about. All the best.

@@DestroyER82 Would you advise against this synth to a newbie/beginner due to the long-winded programming, absent an external programmer? Do you know how quick/slow the process is compared to other menu based synths e.g. DX, alpha Juno?

@@80ssynthfan48 It is extremely deep and complex and also very rewarding. Personally I program patches while im not really inspired, because trying to dial a sound while in creative process - impossible. DX7 is even wilder level of complex, but also rewarding (for DX7 I use Dexed VST and use sysex for loading). Alpha Juno is against those really very simple and easy (still awesome sounding synth, quite a workhorse to be honest). For beginner - It ll take a lot time to get and understand all M6 features, but even till that point - plain presets and raw sound are absolutely amazing.
